In a remote part of the countryside, in a little village lies a large, lush field. Two horses live on the field. From afar, they both seem quite alike, long manes, rich dark brown color and regal bearing. Yet, upon encountering the horses up close, dissimilarities become glaringly obvious – as one of the horses are blind.
The horse’s owner, aware of his deficiency, chose to keep him and constructed a safe and comfortable barn for the horse to reside in.
One can also discern a small copper bell on the other horse in the field which is attached to his halter so that his blind friend can be aware of where he is and follow him at all times.
Passerby’s could observe how the horse with the bell is continually looking out
for his blind friend and how the blind horse strains to listen for the bell and will then walk toward him; trusting him to lead him to good pastures. Of course, when the horses return to their barn each evening, the horse with the bell always ensures that his blind friend is not lagging too far so that he can hear the jingle of his bell.
Likewise, in our lives, Hashem does not desert us. Yes, it is He who knows our deficiencies more than anyone and it is He who knows our challenges and weaknesses. Yet, He loves us and will always continue to be there for us. Hashem sometimes brings others into our lives to aid us specifically when we are at a time of need. At times, we may be like the blind horse, guided by the ringing bell of those who are Hashem’s messengers. Though, at other times, we are the guide horse, helping other Yidden to find their way; lighting up their lives.

¼ cup dry whole wheat breadcrumbs¼ cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese¼ tsp seasoned salt¼ tsp garlic powder⅛ tsp freshly ground black pepper¼ cup unsweetened almond milk (skimmed milk can also be used)2½ cups (1/4-inch-thick) slices zucchiniCooking spray
Directions:1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2. Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl and stir with a whisk until fully combined.3. Place milk in a shallow bowl and dip zucchini slices into milk and dredge in the bread crumb mixture.4. Place coated slices on an oven proof wire rack coated with cooking spray and place rack on a baking sheet.5. Bake for 30 minutes or until browned and crisped. Enjoy!
