In the 7th grade I stared cutting myself because I

was depressed. Honestly I don't know why I would

be so depressed I just was…..I would find myself on

the bathroom floor with sharpener blade cutting

my wrist ,thighs , shoulders, and at one point my

throat. I couldn't do in my room because I use to

share it with my brother and he would see me.

People who knew about me doing this use to think

I was crazy because I would say "pain is beautiful"

but this pain kept getting a bit out of hand. 8th

grade came and things got worse! I met new

friends and new people who I highly disliked. I

remember a girl I highly disliked who started

cutting herself just to mock me! She started telling

people her life was horrible and she wanted to die.

One of those people were my cousin. She went to

same school I did. I guess I just felt bad because she

never noticed my real cuts and just focused on that

other girl mocking me and her fake story. My

cutting got to the point where I would get mad at

some people for the stupidest reason and I would

actually carve their initials into my skin… yes I know

it was stupid! I eventually became addicted to

cutting! I believed this was my freshman year.

Evenutally I joined band. The people there were

amazing. They changed my life in a way they'll

never understand. That's why I consider them my

family! Like I said I was happy but.. I kept cutting

myself!!! I couldn't stop that's when I honestly found

it Something fun to do! Finally at the beginning of

my sophomore year I made a promise to myself

and said that every time I feel like cutting myself I

should just got into my room and listen to music as

a distraction for myself! I'm proud to able to say that

up to today my arms have been clean for almost a

whole year! Music has changed me! Not only music

but band because it gave me a distraction from

counting to cut myself! My future has some very

different plans and goals that I hope to accomplish

soon after high school!

Q: We see you play guitar, If so , whotaught you and when did you startplaying?

A: I've had two guitar teachers nearby, and I took a guitar class last year throughmy school. I got my first guitar about 3years ago but I didn't play on stage untilabout 1 1/2 years ago. I could only playone song then and now I can play a lot.

Q: It says you wrote a book and it waspublished , could you tell us aboutthat?

A: Haha Yes, I wrote a book in 4th gradefor a library contest, and I won. The prizewas to have the book published It's in mylocal library, along with a few othercopies. Not a big deal in the "publishingworld", but pretty cool when you're afourth grader.

Q: On your list of accomplishmentsyou have been in a lot of plays, whatmade you want to start acting?

A: It was a way to help me get over stagefright, but I ended up loving it. Inaddition to the earlier theatermentioned, I was also in oneprofessional theater production andfilmed a movie last August, which shouldbe out late next summer.

Q: Our magazine focuses on bringawareness to bullying, what wouldyou say to kids and teens who arebeing bullied?

A: I've been bullied; mostly online (cyberbullying), but also at school. Oneimportant thing that I have learned isthat bullies often have a low self-esteem.When they are unable to bringthemselves up, they feel the need tobring others down. This is sad, but justremember that they are trying to tearyou apart because they are often jealousof what you have or what you haveaccomplished. Keep your head heldHIGH! - Riley
