BCTRA Renewal Expectations• Pay Annual Membership Fees by April 1• CEU -- All renewing professional members

(certified or not) are expected to earn 12 hours of continuing education for professional development annually (April 1 – March 31)

Note: Student and supporting members are encouraged to participate in professional development and continue to grow but will NOT be audited at the time of renewal.

How can I earn Continuing Education Units for BCTRA Renewal?

• Educational Workshops & Conferences (TR or other profession, Heath Authorities, Academic Institutions, Community Agencies, etc.) OR• Any other CEU option outlined by NCTRC

for CTRS recertification such as presentations, publications, academic courses, etc.

CEU TrackingEach professional is responsible for keeping track of their own

professional development hours/CEU credits

*Documentation verifying hours of attendance may be requested at the time of audit.

This might be in the form of:a) conference CEU transcriptb) certificate of completionc) college/university grades or transcriptd) presenter thank you lettere) other letter or form of verification

Note: Members wishing to earn CEU credit may be asked to sign in and sign out to verify attendance during each session and after each break. A fee may

or may not be charged for some documentation.

What if the agency does not provide any documentation? BCTRA created a Free Handy Dandy CEU Form that members can take to any workshop – Be sure to have someone sign it for attendance verification.

You may be able to ask the organizer or presenter to created a letter or certificate to verify your attendance.

Tips for Keeping Track of CEU and Other Supporting Documentation

• Keep a Colored File Folder • Keep a Binder • Keep an electronic computer folder with

copies of all documents, especially transcripts (Print a paper version as well just in case)• Keep an accordion file box• Keep a basket or box Decided on your routine NOW so documents won’t get lost at home or at work.**Take care of documents when you move.

Random Audits at Renewal TimeFor Professional Members Only

Members will be requested to:

a) Fill out the BCTRA CEU Form listing 12 hours of professional development earned over the past year April 1-March 31.

b) Provide verification of attendance documents (CEU transcripts, certificates of attendance, signed CEU forms, etc.)

Note: Random audits take place all year long for professional renewals. If you delay renewing your membership you may still be audited.

What happens if I have NOT completed my12 hours of professional development by the April 1 BCTRA Annual Renewal Date?

A member will:

a) Confess (May be humiliating/embarrassing).b) Become a member NOT in good standing.c) Earn all CEU’s before membership will be renewed .d) Risk the possibility of forfeitingmembership privileges and fees paid.

*Note: An appeals process is available for extenuating circumstances.

What is an IACET Provider? Does my CEU transcript have to be issued by an IACET provider to be approved by BCTRA or NCTRC? Can I earn CEU by :a) Supervising an internship student? b) Serving on a Professional Board or Committee?c) Taking an activity-based workshop? d) Taking first aid, CPR, or life saving classes?e) Attending the AGM?
