Horizon Quilt Maker 101: Getting to Know your MC15000

Preparation:

1. Cut panel out on dotted line.

2. Fuse 8” square fusible batting to wrong side of each fl oral block.

3. Insert Janome Purple Tip needle.

4. Wind several bobbins with 50wt cotton thread. Then thread needle; insert bobbin in standard bobbin holder (red arrow). Use 50wt thread throughout unless instructions note otherwise.

Calibrate Hoop

To assure accurate placement, it is highly recommended that you calibrate your machine/hoop.

1. Set MC150000 up for embroidery, open embroidery arm.

2. Touch Set > Embroidery Set > page 3/6 > Hoop Calibration > Yes > OK > attach SQ23 Hoop and plastic template.

3. Touch hoop button > select SQ23

4. Use jog arrows to move hoop so that needle is centered in hole of template.

5. Touch OK to save position. Touch OK to save setting.

Lesson 1 Purple Daisy

• Variable Zigzag free motion

• Variable Zigzag satin stitch foot

Experiment with the Variable Zigzag functions as you embellish the daisy. The width of the zigzag is changed as you sew using the knee lift.

Tip: Disconnect the foot control, set the speed controller at medium slow, then use the start/stop button. This will allow you to concentrate on using the knee lift and keep a consistent speed.

Petals

1. Home > Sewing Applications > Quilting > Variable Zigzag > attach Variable Zigzag foot QZ.

2. Select Free Motion M.

Note: Check that the machine is noting QV foot, however you will be using the NEW Variable Zigzag foot QZ.

3. Set the Maximum Stitch Width 4.5.

4. Touch One Stitch Stop to disengage. (The back of this block will be hidden.)

5. Start sewing following the outline of each petal and adding center veins using straight stitches only.

6. Once all the straight stitches are complete, start sewing then press the knee lift to the right to engage the zigzag stitches. Outline each petal.

Note: Move the fabric slower to achieve a more satin look to zigzag stitches.

Center

7. Set Maximum Stitch Width 6.

8. Outline yellow center.
