4 Last Day of School

Dear Janssen School Community,

Our school year is coming to a close! I am still amazed to how quickly a

school year comes and goes. At least we will exit with valued memories

from this year. Through the memories we create, we are able to sus-

pend time, just enough, to reflect and enjoy what our students have ac-

complished this year.

For this newsletter, I wanted to do something different for our readers.

Enjoy!!!

Sincerely,

Hercules Nikolaou, Ph.D.

Janssen Elementary School Principal

May Issue, 2020

Dear Janssen Community,

The departing fourth grade students were asked to describe a life lesson they have learned at Janssen or how the Janssen Way has impacted their life. Enjoy these words of wisdom from these fabulous kids!!

Ariel—Janssen has been like a home to me with all my friends and teachers. It's something I will never forget. My teachers were always so kind. I loved 4th grade the most though. Lastly I never wanted to leave this school but I have no choice. Janssen has always been there for its students. I am so grateful for everyone at Janssen and I wish I could pay Janssen back for how much it means to me. It will be hard to leave too.

Josie—It has impacted my life because it made me not as shy and do stuff that I would never have done. Also it made me speak up for other people.

Khloe—Janssen has impacted my life like nothing else in the world could. I got to meet so many new people. And I was lucky enough to spend time with some of the best teachers.

Zachary—I learned that there are some life lessons when I attended Janssen over the years, like you should always follow the Golden Rule.

Elna—Treat others the way you want to be treated. Consequences will be given. The Janssen Way is not a myth.

Addilynn—The Janssen Way helped me to be a kind and honest student. It helped me make friends, and as we move on, I will always remember my time at Janssen.

Page 2: Janssen Elementary School Family Newsletter Janssen Journal · Ariel—Janssen has been like a home to me with all my friends and teachers. It's something I will never forget. My

Charlotte—The Janssen way is Kindness, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. When I was in 4k which was my first year at Janssen (they still had 4k here at the time), I made new friends (because at the time I only had one friend who lived far away so I didn't see them that much), and I had a good time with them. I was kind to them, I invited people to play with me, and I made one of my first friends there. I was hon-est to my teachers (honestly all the teachers I had were amazing). I respect my teachers by doing what they say, and I don't judge others for what they are doing even if I wouldn't do it myself. And last--responsibility. I take respnsibility for things I said, or if I did something wrong, I wouldn't blame it on others and say, "No I didn't do that, they did. I would never do that!" And that is how the Janssen way had impacted my life.

Caleb—You need to be responsible, respectful, honest and kind. Sometimes itś hard to listen and take tests, but don´t give up! Iḿ thankful for all the teachers that I had.

Charlie—I learned in first grade from Mrs. Ristau how to be kind to others and be nice to my friends. In second grade Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Brockman taught me to not lie to friends and family or nobody would believe me. In 3rd grade Mrs. Hacker taught me how to believe in myself and to be a better stu-dent.

Emery—The Janssen Way has impacted my life this year as a new 4th grader to the school. The Janssen Way made it easy to come back to school after I was sick because everyone made me feel wel-come. Even though I had missed most of the first semester of school, my teacher and classmates made me feel included and special even though I couldn't be in class with them while I was getting bet-ter.

Abram—Student Council helped me to learn to help my community. Janssen Singers helped me notice that if you practice a lot, you will get better . My teacher taught me to treat others with respect no matter if they are nice to me or not.

Carter—When I was a little kid, I did not know anything, but when I came to Janssen I learnd to never give up, to be kind, honest, responsbile, and respectful. Some kids might not like school but why do you go there in the first place? To learn! And that will help you when you're older. So that is why I like this school--because they make it easy to learn.

Bryson—It's made me a whole new person and helped me to learn a lot of stuff that I didnt know. When I started 4th grade, I never knew division and now I know how to do division.

Avery—The teachers have helped me with my reading, and now, I love to read, when I used to hate reading. They have also taught me to be responsible, kind, honest, and respectful wherever I am even if I am not at school.

Jonah—I have learned that you can have fun while still learning. I learned that our teachers always care about us and want to help us in more ways than you can count. I also learned to do my work right the first time because it is harder to go back and fix it when you don't spend time on it.

Myla—The life lesson I learned was that I should include people. In research, you should give people credit when you take their sentence. And I learned to just do the Janssen Way. It's about kindness, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Carter—I've learned to always be kind to my friends and other adults.

Aven—Some life lessons I learned at Janssen are it's better to be kind rather than being mean, and to always try to be the bigger person.

Kayleigh—A life lesson I have learned from Janssen is to always work hard and know that there are people there for you. A wise teacher told me, "It's not about where you start, it's about where you end." The journey of learning is about growing to be the best version of yourself.

Arieana—It's taught me to not be a bully, and we are supposed to include others, be friendly and kind, and most of all, treat others they way you want to be treated.

Clementine—Mrs. Johnson taught me how to read and Mrs. Berns taught me to love books! Mrs. Keefer taught me working together with others is fun. Mrs. Hacker taught me to be kind to all people. Mr. Wilczek taught me to appreciate bad jokes. They are funny.

Page 3: Janssen Elementary School Family Newsletter Janssen Journal · Ariel—Janssen has been like a home to me with all my friends and teachers. It's something I will never forget. My

Rilynn—I have become a nicer person and more social because of the friendships I have made at Janssen. I learned a lot of my humor from my friends, teachers and Dr. Nikolaou. The time I have had at Janssen has made me a better person!

Payton—The Janssen Way impacted my life because it helped me become who I am today. Without the teachers, students, staff, and the principal, I wouldn't be the kind, caring, respectful, and honest girl that I am. I think the Janssen way, staff, teachers, and classmates really helped make me the person that I am and I thank everyone who's helped me along the way.

Easton—"I learned how important learning is, because it helps you when you're older so that you can get a job. I learned how to communicate with my friends and teachers ef-fectively, so I can be a better, nicer person. Lastly, I learned The Golden Rule (to treat others the way you want to be treated)."

Joshua—I have learned three main things while at Janssen. The first is to be kind to others. Second you need to help others out when they are hurt or sad. Finally it is im-portant to always be honest with yourself and other!

Matteo—I have been at Janssen since 4K. In that time I have learned the Janssen Way. I have learned that it is important to be kind and help others. Kindness is something that will be important to share with others for the rest of my life.

Kaden—Kindness, respect, responsibility, and honesty. I did not learn all of these in one day. Even when I learned one of these qualities, I ended up forget-ting about them. But, everyone at Janssen, including the students and the teachers reminded me of kindness by helping me when I needed help. They also reminded me to give respect by telling me to be good. Also, everyone taught me responsibility by making sure I did what I was told to do. Lastly, I learned over time that honesty is very important because it helps me not to lie and to be a good person.

Natalie—Some life lessons I have learned from being at Janssen is, to follow the Janssen way. You need to have Kindness, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. I have also learned to treat others the way I want to be treated and to include everyone at recess, as a partner, and anywhere.

Emily—The Janssen Way has made me be able to work hard on things, helped me be a better person, made me be closer to my friends, and it has made me lots of friends

Matthew—"Throughout the years I have made lots of friends. Also throughout the years I have meet a lot of cool teachers."

Madeline—The Janssen way made me a better person. Now I know how to act and communicate with other people respectfully in a kind way.

Kinnley—Here are some life lessons that I learned from attending Janssen. I learned that teachers and your friends really care about your feelings so it's ok to tell how you feel. And another thing I learned is I noticed something about our school, that we really care about how you treat people. What I mean by that is to be kind to your friends or teachers. And the most important thing I learned from being at Janssen is to have FUN!

Isabella—The things that I learned at Janssen is that we should treat others the way we should be treated. We also have to put a lot of effort into our studies and schooling. At Janssen, they would like you to participate in things and try out new things.

Natalie—The Jansen Way has impacted my life in many different ways. It has taught me how to be a citizen and a good human being in and out of school. The past years were sometimes hard to have the best behavior I could have but with help from all of the great teachers they have taught me how to stay on my best behavior all of the time. Moving on to Mapleview I will definitely bring these gestures with me to keep being the best student I can be!

Adrian—The Janssen Way has impacted my life by learning that you need to be kind to everyone.

Page 4: Janssen Elementary School Family Newsletter Janssen Journal · Ariel—Janssen has been like a home to me with all my friends and teachers. It's something I will never forget. My

Brody—I have made so many friends here at Janssen. Everyone has made me a good person. I have learned to be kind, honest, respectful and a responsible person. An-other thing is that all our teachers have given us good knowledge and good infomation that will help us have good jobs, be better people and even a great life. I just want to thank everybody here at Janssen for a great 6 years of my life. Thank you.

Annabelle—To be kind and treat others the way you want to be treated. To try your best when things are hard. To have a growth mindset.

Ty—I’ve made friends, had great teachers, and had my ups and downs. In the end I'm really happy I came to this school, because I don’t know what I would have done if I didn't come. I am going to miss you all so much and thanks so much for having me at this school. Now I’m starting to tear up while writ-ing this. I’m going to miss you all.

Cohen—The Janssen Way made me a better person. It taught me how to be kind, honest, respectful, and responsible.

Grayson—The first life lesson is you have to go through school. The second life lesson is you never give up/always keep trying. The last life lesson is you have to grow up.

Kailyn—The Janssen Way has been teaching me to be kind, honest, respectful, and re-sponsible. The Janssen Way has been teaching me to be the best person I can be. I will continue to use these traits as I move on in life.

Noah—My time at Janssen was awesome and I learned a lot of rules like the golden rule.

Rylan—One of the life lessons I learned at Janssen was to be kind because of the song and watching all of the teachers be kind to me. I have been kind to my friends by not judging them or allowing them to pick the game we play. Another lesson is to be responsi-ble in my life. I have learned this from making mistakes and learning from them. I also have learned that there are consequences for me not remembering to do my work or for-

getting to turn things in. This will help me in the future because I did not like feeling like I let people down and I know now the importance of being responsible for my actions.

Raelynn—I have been at Janssen since I was in 4K. When I started school it was scary at first, but then through the grades I've learned a lot. It has been amazing, I made new friends and new teachers.

Maddy—At Janssen I learned to always be kind to everyone. If you are having trouble, ask a teacher. I also went on many field trips, my favorite one was to Madi-son to see the Capital. We learned a lot about Wisconsin history and that they make the laws there. We also learned about the meanings of the paintings in the Capital.

Ivory—Janssen Elementary has had a huge impact on my life. Starting in 4K every-thing was new and scary, but now I know almost everyone in the school. I feel like Janssen is where I live, I mean my classmates and I spend 7 hours a day in school every day but the weekends and holidays. I've learned and laughed a lot. I've been going to Janssen from 2013 up to this year, and if I never went to Janssen I don't think I would be the person I am now.

Griffin—First, it's different than my old school because it's way funner than my old school. Second, the people are way nicer than in my old school. They work together more. Third, they teach in a different way and it's funner.

Lochlann—Janssen has impacted my life by teaching me how to add and subtract, how to read a book, and how to do multiplication.

Micah—The Janssen Way made me a better kid, helped me be nicer to my family/friends, and to help others in need.

Leland—All my years at Janssen I learned kindness, honesty, respect & responsibil-ity are so important in our everyday lives and I learned to always treat others how I want to be treated.

Caylee—The Janssen Way has impacted my life by teaching me to be honest and kind in many ways. 1. Tell the truth when something goes wrong. 2. Help others every day by caring for them and listening to them.

Blake—Janssen has been good for me. It got me the help I need to get through school. I love my teach-ers and my principal. Janssen just feels safe and fun.

Page 5: Janssen Elementary School Family Newsletter Janssen Journal · Ariel—Janssen has been like a home to me with all my friends and teachers. It's something I will never forget. My

Jamison—"It was exciting to make new friends, learn new things and have awesome teachers! Some of my favorite things are pizza, teriyaki chicken, and walking tacos."

Brooklyn—I moved to Janssen Elementary School when I was starting 3rd grade. At first it felt weird and I was really scared! I quickly learned that kids were pretty similar at both schools. At first it was hard to make friends but everyone was really nice. I think I have learned that change is hard but if you just be yourself and not give up you can adjust.

Becca—Jansen has impacted my life because I have been here ever since 4k. Janssen has made an im-pact on my life because when I get hurt they help me, if I am stuck my teacher will help me, if I don't feel good they help me, and the teachers help all of us so much and I love it. I would not be able to do learning without them.

Carley—The Janssen way has impacted my life so much. It helped me make new friends that I will now keep forever and it helped me through a lot of hard times. Everyone was always so nice; it was awe-some!! The Janssen way has taught me how to be a better person and has taught me to help others and be nice to all of them. I remember when I was just in 4k and a girl came up to me and asked, "Do you want to be my friend?" I will always treasure that moment where someone really used the Janssen way and it made my day!!

Ella—The Janssen Way really impacted my life because they tried their hard-est to teach us the good stuff and not the bad stuff. They set a great exam-ple on responsibility that I will use when I am an adult and now. They are awe-some! THE BEST SCHOOL I EVER HAD!!!!!

Luciana—I've been going to Janssen Elementary for 6 years. It was awesome! Janssen has impacted my life a lot and here's how: Janssen teachers always told me that you should keep going and keep trying and I did. Also the great people who went to Janssen, also known as my friends, the teachers helped us

when we had problems. Those are the most important reasons and when I'm going to go to Mapleview I'm going to miss Janssen sosososososo much.

Bryn—Janssen elementary has brought me some good memories with learning, making friends, and hav-ing great teachers. Janssen has taught me so much and I will never forget it!

Zoey—Janssen Elementary is a great school. It has great students and great teachers. They have a name for the kindness, respect, responsibility they show it is called.........The Janssen Way!The Janssen Way is a great resource for the students to look up to. I am a new student at Janssen Elementary and I love it. I made new friends and met great teachers. It is a wonderful school where that you can trust and in my book trust is the MOST important!

Layton—I met a lot of friends and had lots of memories that I can take with me for the rest of my life. I really miss playing football at recess and learning lots of stuff in person. Being able to see all my past teachers and friends was fun. Some of the values that Janssen has taught me is the Janssen Way which includes kindness, honesty, respect and responsibility. My favorite memory at Janssen was my first field trip to an apple orchard and we got to keep some apples!

Peyton—The school taught me to be more responsible. If I went to a different school I would never be

who I am right now. It is the best school ever!!!!!!❤

Trenton—Things that I do miss at Janssen are the well-caring teachers, the shoutouts of when things are going to happen, and all of my friends. Janssen impacted my life by saying, "Trenton, you can do this and no one can stop you!" and the well-caring teachers helped me threw that. My wonderful friends are the most amazing people ever because they will take time out of writing and help me make a plan.

Grant—Janssen changed me to be a better person because of the school and playground rules are fair. I love this school because all the teachers are so nice and they care about you.

Graham—In my 6 years at Janssen I've been at a lot of Morning Paws. Every morning as I got older and older, I learned how to persevere, show gratitude, and to show kindness. If it wasn't for Janssen, I wouldn't even know those words. I will miss Janssen a lot!

Addison—I have learned how to be a better classmate and a better friend. I have learned to keep going when things get tough. I have learned how to prac-tice the Janssen Way!

Blake—The Janssen Way impacted my life and I learned a lot. It taught me to be kind, honest, respectful and responsible. I remember being in first grade and having trou-bles opening my milk carton. Someone helped me without asking. It was very kind. From that day, I made sure to help others and be aware of people struggling with the little things.

Aubrey—The Janssen Way inpacted my life by one day I was coming home from school and then my sister was being a little mean. I just said, "Treat others the way you want to be treated." Also I will really miss all my teachers and not being able to say goodbye in person to them and my friends. I would love to give all my teachers throughout my

school years at Janssen a big hug to let them know I thank them for all they taught me.

Braiden—At Janssen I've had a wonderful experience with the teachers and kids. I've learned a lot at Jannsen about respect ,honesty, loyalty and how I should behave. I have really liked all of my teachers and all the people I have met while I was in school at Janssen. I am going to miss Janssen school and everyone there.

Lucas—The Janssen way has impacted me by showing me that I need to do these things not only at Janssen, but everywhere I go. It has also made me more friendly and less shy because I felt like I could be myself. I am also going to miss all the awesome teachers at Janssen. YOU ROCK! WOOF! WOOF!

Hannah—Janssen is a great school. The school will always care about you. I will miss all of my teachers and the teachers that I have. They always take care of me. I will

miss them so much for all they have done for me .

Laney—I have learned at Janssen that everyone's voice is important. Also that if you keep believing in yourself that anything can happen. Finally, to keep going even if things get tough.

Timothy—Janssen Elementary has impacted my life MASSIVELY. You see, I was here for six years (I was in 4k) and I've learn many lessons. Ihave learned how we have to be focused in class if we want to learn, and you need to treat others the way YOU want to be treated. It's kind of crazy that I am going into 5th grade. I will never forget the things that Janssen has taught me.

Peyton—When I went to Janssen I learned to do the Janssen way. I made lot of friends and I miss them all. Going to Janssen made me a better person.

Leo—"The Janssen Way impacted my life by teaching me how to be kind, respectful, responsible and honest at home and at school. Also the teachers taught me to have manners. Lastly, everyone helped me be more successful. Now that 4th grade is over the Janssen Way will follow me . "

Mason—One things I learned during the time I was at Janssen was that no matter what, there is al-ways another way to solve a problem. Another thing was that you can always ask your teachers if you are stuck. And last, but not least, you are NEVER alone.

Olivia—Some life lessons I have learned from being at Janssen Elementary School were kindness, hon-esty, respect, and responsibility. Being honest to friends and teachers, treating everyone with kindness because that's how I want my friends to treat me, and taking responsibility for my own actions in and out of school.

Lynzi—”I learned that I need to be respectful to all people. You need to be friends with everybody no matter what. Never leave anybody out...that's just rude! If somebody is sitting alone at the table I will bring them over by my friends. If you're not friends with people then people won't be nice to you and then you'll have no friends."

Ryker—I've come very far during my years at Janssen. I will miss all the teachers who helped me get this far. I will certainly miss being a Bulldog, but I will always practice the Janssen Way. I will remember all the memories like meet the teacher, teacher conferences, and last day of the year carnivals. They were fun. I will miss Janssen a lot, but in college I will sit back and remember how I got there.

Caleb—Some life lessons I learned at Janssen are always be a friend and always do the right things even if you are the only one.
