“Get Behind the Gates” with Karen Grimes, longtime resident of Ocala and horsewoman. Arrive at 9 AM at the Florida Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. After a brief tour of the Florida Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association Museum that includes items and memorabilia local to Ocala’s rich equine history, Karen will escort you on a beautiful, scenic drive through horse country. The farms we visit will be a Thoroughbred Stud Farm to meet Million Dollar Sires where there will be photo ops with the stallions; A Showplace Arabian Farm to meet and greet these magnificent horses and their newborn foals (21 babies are due!); a Gypsy Vanner Farm in Morriston, where the owner will share their incredible collection of antique wagons and carriages, and where you will meet and greet these rare, magical horses. The tour will end with lunch (sandwiches, soup
and salad, catered by Fresh Green Tomato Company) indoors at Ocala Breeders Sales Company, upstairs overlooking the one mile track. End time between 2:00 and 2:45 PM.

Captain Mike will give you information on the history, flora, fauna and points of interest while trying to find as much wildlife as possible during the tour. The Lazy River Cruise has been voted best river boat tour and guide by many of the locals. You will find the river to be very scenic with plenty of nature surrounding you. On January 16th you will take the boat cruise at 2:00 PM and dine at 4:15 PM. On June 5th you will dine at 3:15 PM and take the boat cruise at 5:00 PM. The dining will be at the popular Stumpknockers Restaurant overlooking the Withlacoochee River.

The Bear is back! The Orlando Solar Bears vs. South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday, January 27th or Orlando Solar Bears vs. Gwinnett Gladiators on Monday, March 23rd. The Orlando Solar Bears are a professional hockey organization playing in the ECHL and are affiliated with the NHL’s Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies. Each season the Solar Bears play 36 regular season home games at the 2012 Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year, the Amway Center.
You will be seated in the club level and have access to exclusive club level concessions and amenities. The seats are very comfortable and roomy to top off your luxurious experience. We welcome you aboard the newly refurbished glass bottom boat. It was an original from Silver Springs and has been brought to Crystal River to continue tours. Crystal River is well known for its West Indies Manatees as well as its crystal clear springs. We will board on the dock at Cracker’s which is a great waterfront restaurant! Our departure time is approximately 10:00 am. Following our departure from Cracker’s, we will tour the Three Sisters, Hunter, and King Spring in search of our beloved manatees that inhabit the area. The glass bottom boat will also allow
you to see the local fish species. You will see an abundant amount of water fowl in the area such as Osprey, Heron’s, and Ibis. The entire tour will keep you entertained with nature’s wildlife and beauty. Plan on 2 1/2 to 3 hours for your tour around Crystal River. You will then be returned to the dock at Cracker’s for lunch on your own! They have a wonderful menu where you can end your trip overlooking King’s Bay. Register at the Recreation Center office.

You will see four major dramas with a combination of indoor and outdoor presentations. The last show will start at 4:00 p.m. You will see the Majestic Grand Finale! Singing River Tours specializes in eco-tours on a comfortable, covered 40’ pontoon boat with the addition of original music! The tour will offer education about the local area, its history, the environment and the wildlife along the beautiful waters of the crystal clear spring-fed Rainbow River and the dark, swamp-fed Withlacoochee River. The captain will share his knowledge of Florida’s ecology and history through story and song. The tours are about an hour and forty minutes. The tour will depart from the Angler’s Resort in Dunnellon. All tours are handicap-accessible. Once we have completed the Singing River Cruise we will dock at the Blue Gator Restaurant for lunch overlooking the river. (Please note the restaurant is outdoor seating only.)

Enjoy wandering through the museum’s setting — the former Hotel Alcazar, built in 1887 in the Spanish Renaissance style. Relics of America’s Gilded Age are elegantly exhibited on the museum’s three floors. Costumes, furnishings, mechanical musical instruments and other artifacts give you a glimpse into 19th century daily life. Upon arrival you will be taken to the Music Room where there will be a perform a demonstration of the instruments. You will also be able to dine at the Alcazar Café. The Alcazar Cafe is an elegant eatery situated in the space of the Lightner Museum originally designated for the largest indoor swimming pool. Please note that lunch will be on your own. After you enjoy lunch you will walk over to the Whetstone Chocolate Factory Tour.
St. Augustine’s “Original Chocolate Tour” led by Whetstone Chocolatiers. You will be introduced to the history and making of chocolate and the Whetstone story. A 4-tiered tasting distinguishes the characteristics of our dark, milk and white chocolate, cocoa nibs and more. Taste freshly made chocolates and confections while you walk through our factory. This tour is for the chocoholic with a discriminating palate searching for the subtleties that define artisan chocolates. A decadently delicious experience!

Alligator encounters are plentiful year round. You will leave the creek behind to re-enter the St. Johns River by the pristine Lake George, Florida’s second largest lake which is surrounded by the Ocala National forest on the west and the Lake George State Forest on the east. You will have the opportunity to dine at the famous Blackwater Inn for lunch. Please note that lunch will be on your own.

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is the remarkable legacy of circus entrepreneur, collector of art, and financier, John Ringling and his wife, Mable. The 66-acre estate includes: the Museum of Art, the Venetian-Gothic Ca’d’Zan mansion, their winter-residence, the 18th-century Historic Asolo Theater, Circus Museum, and historic grounds and gardens. The miniature exhibit is a must for your tour!
The Ringling Museum of Art has a noteworthy collection of more than 250 fans, some of which are exhibited in these two galleries reflecting the heritage of fans from many parts of the world. One gallery focuses on Asian fan traditions, and one on European fan traditions. They represent the highest workmanship of the eighteenth century to the early twentieth century, and reflect the changing tastes and social mores of the period.

A Murder is Announced

Join us at the Melon Patch Theatre for “A Murder is Announced” A murder is announced in the newspaper Gazette in the dizzy town of Chipping Cleghorn. Someone must be putting an invitation for a game in the paper. Naturally, a murderer would not place an ad in the paper announcing their murder. However dangerous as it might be, it sparks the interest of the people in town. A full on investigation takes place, the detectives must consider everybody a possible suspect. You will not want to miss this thriller. After the show we will go to Takis Greek/Italian Restaurant where you will be able to dine. Please note: that dinner will be on your own!

If you are looking for a great way to meet friends and get a great work out, look no more! We are happy to announce that line dance classes are back and in full swing at the Health & Recreation Ballroom every Monday afternoon. We are offering three different line dance levels to accommodate everyone’s interest. Marilyn McNeal will be your dance instructor. Marilyn comes to our community with many years of professional line dancing skills.
Class times and descriptions:
Introduction to Line Dance - 1:00 p.m. in the Exercise RoomLearn to dance at your own pace and ability. Step patterns are thoroughly described, practiced and used in simple patterns.
Improver/Easy Intermediate Level - 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.Dance experience required for this class. Current popular dances taught at this level, with quick rhythms and some turns.
Beginner Level – 4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.Dancers need knowledge of basic line dance steps. Combinations and easy patterns, with low impact movement to many different rhythms are taught in this class.
Absolute Beginner – 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.This class was formerly Calico Introduction to Line Dance. Dancers have completed three months of dance. Additional step patterns are added weekly.
Each class is $10 per month/per class. Please note that you may change to another level to suit your ability during your first month

Indoor cycling is a great way to enhance your cardiovascular health. Instructors will coach you through various road profiles to simulate a real road ride. This exciting workout is self paced and allows for you to determine how challenging your ‘ride’ should be. All fitness levels welcome. A “Power Cycle” pass is required to attend this class. Pick one up at the front desk one hour before class. Space is limited.

20-20-20 is a high energy workout that gives equal time to cardio, strength and flexibility exercises (20 minutes of each). This up-beat and dynamic class incorporates many different types of equipment and is dedicated to improving all the components of fitness. This class was designed to welcome all ages and abilities.

This workout is based on a method of suspended body weight exercises leveraged against gravity. Expect a strength workout that layers on a cardio challenge while training the core for improved stability.
TRX Turbo*: This next level of TRX training presents a faster paced workout with exercise progressions of greater intensity. Strength, cardio and balance will all be challenged in addition to the core stabilization that has become the TRX trademark. It is highly recommended that participants in this small group personal training have prior TRX experience.
TRX Active Aging*: This specialized TRX training is perfect for the active ager wanting to improve strength, flexibility and balance.
