Dear President & Chairman of Board of Trustees,
The federation of Jain associations in North America is proud to announce it has CONFIRMED AND FINALIZED the ninety-nine yatras event, which will take place at Palitana in India from NOVEMBER 10, 2011 through JANUARY 9, 2012. This is a unique opportunity to participate in this historic, once in a lifetime event for members of Jain Society’s all across North America. This is an event that has never been organized before for Jains in North America. We are sending herewith information regarding this Shree Shatrunjay Mahatirth 99 Yatra in 2011. Please put this information on your respective Jain Center notice board and inform each member of this event through the Jain Center’s newsletter. Announce this yatra program during next upcoming major Jain Center program. Also will you please, if possible, promote the families interested in sponsoring this yatra. All information regarding the yatra is also available through the JAINA website. The JAINA website is www.jaina.org. Palitana is a sacred city of Jains and is located about 215 km from Ahmedabad and 51 km southwest of Bhavnagar. It was the capital of a small princely state founded by Shahji, a Gohel Rajput who belonged to the same clan as the Maharaja of Bhavnagar. Palitana is situated at an altitude of 182 meters and covers an area of 13 square km. Palitana is one of Jainism’s holiest pilgrimage sites and a gateway to the Shatrunjay Hill. The Shatrunjay Hill is located at a height of 591 meters. The Shatrunjay Temple is the most sacred temple of the Jains and one of the largest of its kind in India. One has to climb up the hill for about 4 kms (600 meters) on a stepped path to Shatrunjay (place of victory over worldliness). There are about 863 white marble Jain temples, built over 900 years on the hilltop, each with its own enclosure.
By Air: Bhavnagar, the nearest airport lies at a distance of 51 kilometers from Palitana, but it connects only with Mumbai. For people coming from other places, a more convenient airport would be Ahmedabad which has an international airport or Baroda as it is connected through regular flights to many important cities of the country like Mumbai and Delhi.
By Rail: Palitana is a small railway station and has connection with Songadh and Bhavanagar. Best way is to take a train to Songadh and go by road to Palitana using local transport. The railway station at Palitana is improving and it is going to soon have direct trains from Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
By Road: There are buses for Bhavnagar from Palitana. Regular buses are also available from Ahmedabad, Talaja, Una, and Diu. Taxis are also available on hire for Palitana from Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad or Vadodra. The bus stand is situated 800 meters away from the Palitana railway station. Since Palitana is an important destination for a lot of people who follow Jainism, and the fact that there are a lot of people in Mumbai, there are buses that run daily between Mumbai and Palitana.

General Information
Dear Yatris,
Thank you for showing interest in this once in a lifetime event. This Shatrunjay Mahatirth 99 Yatra will begin on November 10th, 2011 and finishes on January 9th, 2012. Along with this spectacular event we would also like to announce that on December 24th and 25th, a special program for your friends and family within India can join you in a very auspicious Mala Ropan celebration. Also, within this letter you will find some very important information regarding this Yatra event and also you will find some rules and regulations that you will be expected to follow.
1. Please fill out your registration form and waiver & release of liability form with your check of $1,200.00 per person. Make the check payable to: JAINA YATRA 2011-USA. Please mail this to the following address:

2. Please provide three passport photos with your name and address on the back for security purposes.
3. Update your passport or visa well ahead of time of the actual 99 Yatra event.
4. While performing the 99 Yatra make sure you have your photo identification with you at all times. (Passport or O.C.I.)
5. Please arrive to Palitana one day before the start of Yatra . Also please ensure your travel plans are fixed well in advance of this event.
6. Visit your doctor and make sure you are healthy enough to perform this event. Also if there are any medical vaccinations that need to be performed make sure they are done well in advance of the 99 Yatra event.
7. Also included with this informational packet there is a list of items that will be needed for this trip. Make sure you bring those items with as they will not be provided for you.
8. Please do not pack the following items in your checked-in bags.( The items are your passport, domestic or international air tickets, travelers check, money, luggage keys, and prescription medicine required while traveling.)
10. Make sure your name and address is on all of your pieces of luggage. Last name first in capital letter.
11. Make copies of your valuable and important documents. Also keep these copies at your home.
12. JAINA or 99yatra committee will not be held responsible for your jewelry, cash, passport, cameras,laptops phone etc.
13 It will be your responsibility to convert foreign currency to Indian rupees s for your use.
14. All Yatris must follow the dharmashala rules and regulations that will be discussed on the first day of the Yatra event.

1.
