CHAPLAIN’S COMMENT If the calendar says January, then it must be time for my annual New Year’s Resolution (NYR) suggestions. This year will be an easy one, since I’m only suggesting that you keep score on your best “goody two shoes” moments of the day (example: give yourself 1 point for starting the day off with a prayer, 2 points for not spreading gossip, 3 points for reaching out to someone who is homebound, 4 points for using the same rationale on how safe it is going to Church that you have used on how safe it is going to Walmart in the last eight months. And let’s say you give yourself 50 points for controlling your temper when your spouse informs you that she damaged her car pretty badly when she sideswiped your truck while backing out of the garage. You may need to make a journal to note your best feel good moments of the day when you start to realize that your encounter with Jesus’s message of Love, Patience and Charity comes more often than you thought it did (or if your memory is simply fading!) Then Sunday morning pick your best day of the previous week and hash over with Jesus and Mary (or even your family) why you choose it. As your own scorekeeper, you’ll be more in tune with noticing actions you’ve done that otherwise may have gone unnoticed by yourself. At the end of the month simply choose the best moment/day of the entire month, and try to duplicate or, hopefully, better it. You know that you are a winner when next December you have a hard time choosing the best of your best! Like the other NYR’s I’ve suggested in the past three years, it really just boils down to all of us remembering that God is graciously granting us one more moment/day/month/year to improve our commitment to worship Him, honor Him and thank Him.

BLOOD DRIVE NEWS Our latest blood drive was one of the most

successful in our 40 year plus history! Thanks to

Council widow Patty Schmidt, Claire Waldron,

Dr. Amy and Philip Brooks, Jack Chulko, PGK Bill

Greco, GK Jimmy and Ken Novosel’s son Nick

who were among the 41 people who

understood that even during the worst phase

aid those in need! Our next blood drive will be

Christmas Eve Broadcast Though God is the only one who knows exactly how

many people tuned into COOL 101’s live Christmas

Eve Mass radio broadcast, we realize (just like every

other project we have sponsored in the last 53 years)

that it was worth our effort if it made a positive

impact on just one person. Thanks to Brother Jay

Verno who got the info added to his Hagan Business

sign on busy Rte. 322, and to our Chaplain who

welcomed the opportunity to spread the Word of God

over the airwaves.

CHAPLAIN’S COMMENT If the calendar says January, then it must be time for my

annual New Year’s Resolution (NYR) suggestions. This

year will be an easy one, since I’m only suggesting that you

keep score on your best “goody two shoes” moments of

the day (example: give yourself 1 point for starting the day

off with a prayer, 2 points for not spreading gossip, 3

points for reaching out to someone who is homebound, 4

points for using the same rationale on how safe it is going

to Church that you have used on how safe it is going to

Walmart in the last eight months. And let’s say you give

yourself 50 points for controlling your temper when your

spouse informs you that she damaged her car pretty badly

when she sideswiped your truck while backing out of the

garage.

You may need to make a journal to note your best feel

good moments of the day when you start to realize that

your encounter with Jesus’s message of Love, Patience

and Charity comes more often than you thought it did (or if

your memory is simply fading!) Then Sunday morning pick

your best day of the previous week and hash over with

Jesus and Mary (or even your family) why you choose it.

As your own scorekeeper, you’ll be more in tune with

noticing actions you’ve done that otherwise may have

gone unnoticed by yourself. At the end of the month

simply choose the best moment/day of the entire month,

and try to duplicate or, hopefully, better it. You know that

you are a winner when next December you have a hard

time choosing the best of your best!

Like the other NYR’s I’ve suggested in the past three

Grand Knight Message Dear Brother Knights, My mother was the queen of corny quotes such as “Eggs and attitudes have a lot in common, and it’s up to you to decide if you want to view it as being sunny side up or as a scrambled mess!” I prefer to have the attitude that our decision process of 2020 was not a scrambled mess when we chose to either suspend or move forward on holding blood drives, Christmas tree sales, virtual Degrees, Sunday afternoon and Friday night Bingos, pancake breakfasts, get togethers, meetings, Sunday Rosaries or even to re-elect me as GK. Once again, I’ll ask you to feel as free in giving me your input as I’ll be in asking for your assistance as our Council tries to navigate through the uncharted waters of 2021 while making sure we don’t end up with egg on our face. Jimmy McAnalley, Grand Knight

CHRISTMAS TREE SALE FINALE It’s a wrap! The 2020 Christmas tree sale goes in the books as possibly the most successful ever and during a pandemic, no less. 151 trees were sold and a profit of $2390 was realized. Chairman John would like to recognize all the Brothers who helped set up and tear down tree stands, transport lumber and sell trees in all kinds of weather, including the shovelers who, at one point, had to move several inches of snow just to get to the trees. And I hasten to mention that the stands did not collapse even once under all the weight of trees and snow. Thanks also to Fr. David Carter for offering the services of eight students who assisted various Brothers with selling trees and, in turn, earned community service time. That’s called a win-win. And our deepest appreciation to the staff and management of Ralston Hardware for their kindness and generosity in again granting us the use of their property for the sale.

CONDOLENCES FROM THE COUNCIL

We extend our deepest sympathy to Patty Schmidt

(widow of Brother Bob) whose mother Pat Truhan has

recently joined Patty’s dad (our Brother Knight Frank)

in heaven. Also, we mourn the losses of Joyce Farkas

(widow of Brother John) and Cindy Lasko (wife of

Brother Jim). May Pat, Joyce and Cindy enjoy eternal

peace in the loving arms of our Lord.

SUPER SUNDAY

Due to the Super Bowl being on February 7th, our February meeting will begin at 7 PM on February 14th. It will be held at OLQA’s Anderson Hall (which has Wi-Fi capability, as well as plenty of social distancing space for those wanting to attend in person) while we continue to experiment with a hybrid meeting format. For those having Internet service yet receive this newsletter through snail mail, please contact GK Jimmy before meeting night so that he can provide you an access code.

And Finally…A Poem for 2021 Brush away old heartaches. Learn from our mistakes. Another year is finally over. A new dawn awakes. Make your New Year wishes As simple as you can. Pray for peace and love, Not for wealth or fame. As the midnight hour chimes, We leave the old and embrace the new. I wish the things you wish for yourself And may God’s love stay with you.
