Our sympathy to NORMA MULDER in the death of her brother, Paul VanDyke, on Wednesday, January 8. Our sympathy to the family and friends of BOB CURTIS who died on Wednesday, January 8. The funeral service will be here at First Church on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior and lunch to follow. KATIE ROSENDAHL underwent a second surgery this week on her leg due to infection. Pray for courage and strength for Katie as this is quite a setback in her recovery. She is at Spectrum Hospital. Pray for CLARENCE & DELIA TIMMER. Clarence’s sister, Winnie Joofaberns, passed away this week at the age of 97. Also pray for their son-in-law, Jack, who is dealing with cancer and was hospitalized for internal bleeding earlier in the week. Delia lost her sister last week, so it has been a difficult week for the Timmers. For further “Church Family” updates, please call the Prayer Line throughout the week. The local number is 395-3282. Out of town members should call 1-866-392-8085. If you have a prayer concern to be added or changed, or would like to receive Prayer Line updates by e-mail please call the church office.

If you are looking for a church home, please accept this as an invitation to ‘check us out.’ There is ALWAYS A WELCOME HOME for you. Our WINTER SERIES will focus on church family, family relationships and some spiritual values of being committed, caring and Christ-like. When all these factors come together we have authenticity. Staff is excited about this series as we work on spiritual and relational vitality. The RETIRED MINISTERS of First Reformed Church will meet Tuesday January 14 at 9:00 a.m. for fellowship and to talk with Pastor Brandon Smith as he and his wife continue to minister in their challenging work with young adults and young families. March 7-14 there this is an opportunity for a SHORT TERM MISSION TRIP TO INDIA. This is to experience the gospel in the culture of India and work on the ministry center. The trip will be hosted by our own JP Sundararajan. Wood workers, painters and other ‘handy’ gifts might fit well (along with folks just willing to help the skilled folks). Please contact Katy Sundararajan, or Sandra and Ruggles Church if you wish more information. The trip is limited to 10 participants. THE CARE CLOSET would appreciate donations of laundry detergent, toothbrushes, and trash bags. Please bring donations to the box beside the stairs across from the mail slots at any time. Thank you for your continued support of the Care Closet. If you have any questions regarding the Care Closet ministry, please con-tact Warren DeWitt at 392-9016. GETTING BACK “IN SHAPE” IN THE NEW YEAR: We often think about get-ting back into physical shape when the new year starts, but what about our mental and spiritual health? All are invited to join at the following event: Care Leader Train-ing, Tuesday, January 14, from 7:30-9:00 p.m., Room L6. Rev. Sharon Knibbe, MDiv, Behavioral Health Staff Chaplain at Holland Hospital, will teach us how to use a self help tool, called Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which gives us tools for cop-ing with and managing stress, anxiety, depression, and other life challenges. Feel free to bring others to learn about this helpful tool! CAMP REIMBURSEMENT: The Endowment Fund has funds available for children attending either Camp Geneva or Cran Hill Ranch. Please complete one of the reim-bursement forms from the Information Post and return to the Church office as soon as possible. Please complete a separate form for each child. When enrolling your child for either Camp Geneva or Cran Hill Ranch, you must pay all (100%) of the fee di-rectly to Camp Geneva or Cran Hill Ranch. The Church Endowment Fund will make the reimbursement to you. It will not be sending payments to Camp Geneva or Cran Hill Ranch. Note: Enter the total cost of the camp. Please do not include extra camp expenses, such as transportation, DVDs, or punch cards. Reimbursement paid to the parent is 50% of the total camp registration fee up to $200. In order to widen my breadth of academic and pastoral experience, I will be interning at 2nd Reformed Church in Zeeland for the next 8 months. I have deeply appreciated all of the emotional, spiritual, and practical support First has offered me and I look forward to worshipping with you all again when that season has ended. Thank you for being such an important part of my family. Blessings, Beth Jarvis As you enter the Family Life Center this morning you will notice two new banners hanging by the stage area for the Winter season. These have been added to our won-derful collection of banners made by Peggy Ebels and we thank her for these gifts to the church. THANK YOU PEGGY!!
