FROM THE PASTOR: We Welcome Ordinary Time “Do not judge a book by its cover.” Most books now

have jackets. An intriguing or boring design does not necessarily reflect on the quality of the writing and content within the covers.

We have entered “Ordinary Time.” This liturgical season is over half the year with

“interruptions” of Advent/Easter and Lent/Easter. We could conclude from the title that there is nothing particularly important about this time. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Church now provides us all this time to explore the fullness of the mystery of Christ.

We will enjoy Matthew as the Sunday’s gospel in Year A which began the First Sunday of Advent last month and will conclude on Christ the King at the end of November.

Behold the Lamb of God With these words, John the Baptist focuses attention of

Jesus, referring to Him with a metaphor stemming from Jewish Tradition. The lamb was an essential part of the account of the Passover, when its blood on the doorposts preserved the first-born sons in the homes of the Hebrews as the family shared in the meal (Exodus 12:7).

Further, the lamb is a symbol for the Suffering Servant of Isaiah who bore the sufferings of others, and was led like a lamb to the

slaughter (Isaiah 53:7,11). The early Church would see that the death of Jesus on the cross would reveal Him as the perfect Lamb of Sacrifice, led silently to the slaughter to accomplish the atonement for our sins.

Life Will Find A Way Ian Malcolm, a character from the original Jurassic Park had a classic line, “Life uh.... finds a way!” That was about sterile cloned dinosaurs being able to lay eggs.

In the struggle to defend the unborn child in the womb, life is finding a way. The United States marks 47 years of legalized abortion in all fifty states at any time for any reason throughout pregnancy on January 22

nd, the

anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. Since that time, there have been an estimated 61,628,584 abortions that have destroyed the lives of unborn children.

National Right to Life Committee education director Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon provides the figures based on data from both the Centers for Disease Control and the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, a former Planned Parenthood research arm. Guttmacher receives numbers directly from abortion centers themselves and is the prime source for more current figures because the Centers for Disease Control has never tabulated accurate numbers of abortions. Because of the different methods of data collection, GI has consistently obtained higher counts than the CDC.

The number means there are more than 2,362 abortions daily and 98 abortions per hour every hour in the United States.

The good news for pro-life advocates is that abortions are on the decline. A new Centers for Disease Control report about abortion provides encouraging signs for unborn babies’ right to life. Released late last year, the annual abortion report found that abortion numbers reached a historic low in 2016 across the United States

The Scripture on The Unborn Child “You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.” Psalm 139-13-14

T H O U G H T S O N G I V I N G :

“Now the Lord has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb...” (Isaiah 49:5) God has given each of us different gifts. In order for God’s plan to work, you have to do what God is calling you to do, and I have to do what God is calling me to do. And guess what? God has given each of us a different plan! So, stop comparing yourself to others. Don’t let envy and jealousy enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and generously share them with others.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS: To Sing in the Joyful Noise Choir! Are you looking for a way to get your child

involved during Mass in 2020? The Joyful Noise Choir is a wonderful option for children in grades 2-12. It is perfect for young musicians to play an active role during Mass by singing and/or playing instruments. We are always welcoming new members! Our first practice of the new year is on Tuesday, January 21, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in Church. We practice every other Tuesday and sing at the 11:15 a.m. Mass on the following Sunday. If any questions, contact Louise Daniels at [email protected]. We hope to see our choir grow in 2020!

COLD WEATHER GOT YOU DOWN? - The Parish Choir has the remedy! Singing for the Lord is a guaranteed way to warm your heart and soul, and no experience is needed. Just a desire to sing

God's praises - we'll teach you the rest! Join us for rehearsal this Wednesday, January 22 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in Church to receive your dose of spiritual warmth! Call Karen with any questions (and to see if rehearsal is still on if the weather is questionable!) at 724-863-8687.

We meet Saturday mornings beginning January 18, from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in Resurrection Hall. You can register on our website, stagneschurch.info. Any questions, call Ken Glick at 724 858-5598 or Ray Takacs at 724 864-3554.
