Erie Middle School Tiger Community,
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Winter Break! The renovation at EMS continues… Over the winter break we
opened the remaining four rooms in the 6th grade hall and moved Mr. Duhon, Mr. Rebbeck, and Ms. Gruen into three of them.
The remaining room is now being occupied by the Counseling staff as construction begins on the Counseling area. As always, I
will keep you informed as to the progress being made. Please stop by to see what is happening.
There are many things to look forward to in the 2nd semester: TCAP testing in March, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Track, and
concerts to name a few. Our 2nd quarter Renaissance Assemblies will be February 6th where we will recognize high honor roll,
honor roll, perfect attendance and girls and boys basketball. Thank you for your support in these activities.
Parents, please keep us updated with information. If you have a change of home phone number, cell phone number, address,
email, or any other relevant information, please let Ms. Hebrink know. It is imperative that we keep our student information
system information current and accurate.
There are many upcoming events in January: SAC & PTO Meetings on the 7th, Sixth Grade Outdoor Education Student/Parent
Meeting on the 8th, Quarter 2 grades sent home with your student on the 10th, Vision & Hearing screenings on the 14th, no
school on the 21st, and Girls Basketball Tournament on the 26th. Remember, there is no Late Start day in January.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Parents/Guardians:
We are still promoting “Box Tops Across America”! Every student
has brought home a school-addressed envelope and a note explain-
ing to receiver that we are trying to collect box tops from every
state! MAKE SURE you fill in your name and teacher name before
mailing. We encourage you to make copies of the note and send
envelopes to everyone you know. If you could include a stamp on
the envelope, that would encourage participation. There will be a
US map hanging in the cafeteria. We will put a push pin in each
state as we receive box tops from that state. The grade level that
collects from the most states will receive an extra recess. If all 50
states are covered, every grade level will win! We will use the post-
mark on the envelope to count for the state. Each grade level will
receive CO as a start.
I also want to encourage everyone to collect their own box tops
over Winter Break! There will be ten drawings for a Wendy’s Frosty.
Collect your box tops and send in a Ziploc bag, envelope, etc.
marked with your name and teacher name. Be sure to ask friends/
coworkers/family to save for you! All box tops must be received by
January 10, 2013.
Box Tops Marketplace is a great place to shop and make travel
plans! It is so easy and most online retailers will reward us 3-10
eboxtops for every $10 you spend!
Thank you for supporting Erie Middle School and turning your
“Trash Into Cash”!

The Counselors have been exploring Career’s with all grade levels in December. We used classroom instruction as well as an internet based program called College in Colorado. All students will learn how to sign onto and use the College in Colorado web site. College in Colorado is designed to help students and parents plan for secondary education (Middle School and High School), post secondary education (2 yr colleges, 4 yr colleges, or technical schools) including financial aide information and Career choic-es. Parents are encouraged to sign onto College in Colorado to help their students thru this important and difficult process.
