Winter 2015 Dear Past Travelers and Friends,
From the Pharaohs to the Mughals, history is the story of the ascent and decline of mighty empires. The chance to relive those times is perhaps the greatest privilege of travel.
We are pleased to offer you just such a privilege on a selection of upcoming Arrangements Abroad trips. Enter the house where Queen Victoria, ruler of the largest empire in history, lived out her days. Watch the sun set over the temples of Burma’s oldest imperial city. Walk in the footsteps of Darius the Great at Persepolis, and admire the largest collection of crown jewels in the world.
Iran is fast becoming a more accessible destination and we offer two other opportunities to explore this extraordinary country, including a November trip that features the lesser-visited city of Tabriz. For something closer to home, consider a family-friendly discovery of Scotland’s natural wonders, or a series of curatorial visits to castles and cathedrals in England and Wales.
As always, our exceptional staff, including our Tour Directors, working hand in hand with our outstanding lecturers, make these cultural immersions possible. Sincerely,
Jim Friedlander President
P.S. For a limited time, we are offering passage on a 21-day Around the World by Private Jet program to twelve of the most fascinating sites on the planet.
• Honfleur to Portsmouth Aboard Sea Cloud II, June 6 to 14, 2015 Enjoy the rugged beauty of Normandy and the English coast on a cruise that coincides with the anniversary of D-Day. • Golden Eagle Danube Express from Budapest to Tehran, October 5 to 20, 2015On a five-country excursion by luxury rail, travel from the medieval fortresses of Eastern Europe to the royal palaces of Persia. Discover a 2,400-year-old king’s tomb in Bulgaria and in Iran, explore awe-inspiring Persepolis before disembarking in Tehran to gaze at the shahs’ crown jewels.
• The Treasures of Burma, November 8 to 22, 2015Marvel at a colossal reclining Buddha in Yangon before flying to ancient Bagan to explore a monastery complex atop nearby Mount Popa. Embark an elegant, colonial-style riverboat for a two-night cruise to Mandalay, to visit sacred sites and browse traditional crafts.

View a walled garden on Sark, tour the Abbey Gardens of Tresco, and see Queen Victoria’s summer home on the Isle of Wight.
“I love studying ancient history and seeing how empires rise and fall, sowing the seeds of their own destruction.” —Martin Scorsese
