The Purposes of the Marine Corps League To preserve the traditions and to promote the interests of the United States Marine Corps;

To band those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from that service together in fellowship that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy;

To fit its members for the duties of citizenship and to encourage them to serve as ably as citizens as they have served the Nation under arms;

To hold sacred the history and memory of the men and women who have given their lives to the Nation;

To foster love for the principles which they have supported by blood and valor since the founding of the Republic;

To maintain true allegiance to American institutions;

To create a bond of comradeship between those in the service and those who have returned to civilian life;

To aid voluntarily and to render assistance to all Marines as well as to their widows and orphans;

To perpetuate the history of the United States Marine Corps and by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.

Thur. 2/19 Iwo Jima Anniversary

On Thursday 2/19/2015, the Circle Cinema (Ad-miral and Lewis) will present FREE Iwo Jima documentary presentations in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima.

2:00 PM At 2:00 PM, there will be a showing of the documentary only. At 6:00 PM, the documentary will be shown followed by a Q & A with Iwo Jima veterans.

6:00 PM At the 6:00 PM showing, they’ll introduce Iwo Jima veterans - Marines, Navy, Army Air Force, Coast Guard, others. For those veterans who would like to further participate, there will be a question and answer session with them following the initial veteran introductions.

The Marine Corps League will present an Iwo Jima veteran recognition program Saturday, 2/21/2015. See flyer for more information

Greg Tracy needs your help to locate Iwo Jima veterans so they can be invited to attend the programs. If you know of an Iwo Jima veteran, please let Greg know so we can invite him to attend. As each year goes by, these gentlemen are getting fewer and fewer so we need to recognize them while we still can.

Meeting called to order in accordance with the Marine Corps League Ritual by Commandant Guymon.

Welcome to the guest and announcements were made.

The meeting was recessed for diner.

The meeting was called back to order.

A Motion to Suspend the meeting and proceed to Installation of Offi-cers was made, second and passed.

Installation of Detachment Officers was conducted by John Henry Mashunkashey, Department of Oklahoma Commandant.

Meeting was closed in accordance to Marine Corps League Ritual by Commandant Peterson.

Next Meeting will be held on January 24, 2015, at the VFW Post 577, 1109 E. 6th Street, Tulsa, OK

COmmANDANT REpORT JANuARy 2015

I’d like to thank the Detachment for their confidence and support in selecting me as their Commandant for the next year. I look forward to the additional responsibilities and the challenges the position brings. I pledge to all Detachment members to preform my duties to the fullest of my abilities. In doing so I also ask for your support and patients as I learn all that is required of the Commandant.

My goals as your Commandant are:

• Increase our visibility in the community by attending community activities throughout eastern Oklahoma.

• Develop a working relationship with the local Marine Units, the other Oklahoma Detachments, the Young Marine and other veteran orga-nization of eastern Oklahoma.

• Oversee the development of standard operating procedures for re-cording and reporting detachment activities for National award sub-mittal and future Detachment leadership.

• Oversee and increase private fundraising donation request activates

• Oversee an increase in membership and family related activities.

• Increase membership participation in all the Detachment programs

• Increase membership participation in community veteran programs

• Increase membership retention and recruitment.

• Institute a monthly night out with the Commandant for each squad.

• Institute a quarterly Past Commandants get together

The other elected officers you have chosen and the appointed officers are all excellent choices and I believe each one will perform their duties with all the confidence bestowed upon them.

SV Commandant will take over the Chair of the W&M committee and will

continue its ability to contribute to the financial stability of our Detachment in next year.

The JV Commandant will be forming a Membership committee and will be looking for your support in its development. Randy and I have already discussed several ideas for membership activities.

The Adjutant will Chair the SOP committee of the elected officers to establish procedures for recording and reporting all Detachment activities. Keeping track of all Detachment activities will provide us documentation to use when seeking private donations

The Sgt at Arms will form a Color/Honor Guard. The Guard will be available for Fallen Marines, parades, community events and flag retirement ceremonies.

The Public Affairs Officer, Web Sgt and Newsletter Editor will coordinate a Detachment and community information plan to keep our membership and the community informed of all Detachment activities.

The Americanism Officer will oversee the Detachment award programs. In conjunction with Historian record all patriotic events and program the Detachment institutes to submit to National for the National Americanism Award. All assemble records will also be used as recruitment and fundraising material

SENiOR ViCE COmmANDANT

I am honored to be your Senior Vice Commandant for 2015. I envision this office as an assistant to the Commandant, the Chair of the Ways and Means committee and an attendee of the Junior Vice Commandant’s meetings when recruiting events can occur with fund raising. I will work closely with the Jr. Vice to know the members of our Detachment, learn your strengths and interests and help you become an active member of the League.

I actively seek your help in continuing the success of our Detachment. I am open to suggestions, ideas, and welcome any help you will be willing to give.

I see this position as being a part of the hub of the wheel.

We have many exciting events and programs scheduled for the next two years! Our yearly Medal of Honor Day, Rooster Days and the Veteran’s Parade, So. Division, Department and National Conventions, the Christmas Luncheon, FUN fund raisers, and A Day at the Range – just to name a few.

And let us not forget-- hosting the National Convention in 2016!
