The 3rd Balkans Joint Conference

and Exhibition titled “Water and

Sustainable Development” was

organized by the Water and

Wastewater Works Association of

Kosova (SHUKOS) and the Water Supply and Sewerage

Association of Albania (SHUKALB), on 4-6 November in

Pristina, Kosovo. The Conference & Exhibition proved again to

be a success story, by reaching its goal to stimulate the

dialogue between different stakeholders and provide

opportunities for sharing experiences and knowledge, as well

as exchanging the best practices in the water sector, in an

effort to help the further development of the water supply and

wastewater sector. read more

SHUKALB Raises Regional Awareness on the

Importance of Certification in the Water Sector

In the framework of the Balkans Joint

Conference and Exhibition, held on

November 4-6 in Prishtina, Kosovo,

SHUKALB in collaboration with the

International Association of Water

Supply Companies in the Danube River Catchment Area

(IAWD) organized on 4th of November a Pre Conference

Workshop on the theme “Establishing Certification Programs

for Operational Managers in the Water Supply and Sewerage

Sector – A Pathway to Professional Management and

Memaliaj Gravity Flow System saves Energy, lowers

Costs for Tepelena Water Utility

It is known that water utilities operate

in two water supply schemes: gravity

supply schemes and pumped water

supply schemes. Gravity supply

schemes have lower operational

costs compared to pumped water supply schemes, which

require the use of energy. Tepelena Water Utility covers two

municipalities with its services, Tepelena and Memaliaj. Until

recently, the utility had operated both schemes for water

supply.read more

reform, there have been some changes in the management of

Training Course Delivery starting in 2016

SHUKALB will start delivering several training courses that

have been developed under the USAID Project Grant

“Sustainable Water Sector Capacity Development”. Here is the

Outreach

Albania Young Water Professionals and WorcesterTech (USA) undertake Joint Project on the Drin

For the third year in a row SHUKALB

has been collaborating with

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

(WPI), USA, to develop short term

projects that involve a team of WPI

students work in Albania for a period

of 2 months. The project of this year was titled “Float Down

the Drin”, and its main goal was to increase awareness about

the Drin River as a precious natural resource, and also to

raise awareness on the environmental issues concerning the

river. read more

Update on the Project “Sustainable WaterSector Capacity Development”

The Project Grant “Sustainable

Water Sector Capacity

Development” awarded to SHUKALB

by USAID in October 2014, has

completed its first year of

implementation. The focus of the Project during this first year

has been on development of skills training courses, as well as

laying of the foundation for establishing of a test-based

certification program for the water supply and sewerage

utilities in Albania. read more

SHUKALB thanks IMB for Gift of AccountingSoftware and Training

SHUKAB would like to acknowledge

and to thank IMB - Modeling

Business Institute, Albania for the

generous support given by

developing the Alpha Accounting

software for use by SHUKALB. The software was presented to

SHUKALB at no cost, and after the installation, the IMB team

followed up with training of SHUKALB staff in the use of the
