January 2017 President's MessageJenay E. Iurato, Esq.

I am so humbled, honored and excited to assume the role of President of the Tampa Hispanic Bar Association for 2017.

As I take the lead, I would like to thank our Immediate Past President, Vivian Cortes Hodz, for her tremendous efforts in

2016 and for creating such strong momentum upon which to continue to build as we begin our new year. I have the

inherent drive and dedication to embrace THBA’s history and nurture its continued growth, just as Vivian and our other

Past Presidents have done since THBA’s inception in 2006.

I recognize that without all of our members’ devoted personal resources and continued dedication to our organization,

cannot fulfill our Mission. Through collaboration with our board of directors, advisory board and members, I will seek

out opportunities for all members of our organization to pursue active roles in the diversity efforts of the Florida Bar and

other voluntary bar associations. I also look forward to working with our members to explore innovative collaborations

with community/business organizations and leaders throughout the State of Florida, in order to expand the reach of

THBA’s Mission and enhance our voice throughout the Tampa Bay Community and beyond.

Please join me in THBA’s efforts in 2017 by becoming a new member, renewing your membership, and/or becoming

Let us collaborate as members, demonstrate that we are Hispanics of influence, and innovative in the way we continue to

JANUARY SPOTLIGHT: 2017 BOARD OF DIRECTORS! THBA is proud of our members and looks forward to starting a tradition in 2017 of highlighting various members each month. Our inagural member spotlight focuses on THBA's 2017 Board of Directors. We especially welcome our three new Board members: Patricia Candamo, Darren Farfante, and Amy Ruiz. BOARD OF DIRECTORS RETREAT HELD IN DECEMBER 2016 AND MEETING IN JANUARY 2017! THBA's new President, Jenay Iurato, kicked off her 2017 leadership by hosting a Board Retreat at the Oxford Exchange in December 2016. A special guest, Stephanie Wiendl, Past President of The Junior League of Tampa, Inc., provided a keynote/inspirational message encouraging the Board to stay true to THBA's Mission, seek out innovative collaborations as encouraged by Jenay, and to continually embrace community partnerships to enhance THBA's reach. Following Stephanie's message, Jenay utilized innovative interactive technology to discuss an array of issues to forge THBA ahead in 2017. on January 12, 2017, the Board held it's first meeting at the offices of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, in Tampa. The Board is working hard to bring THBA's members meaningful membership meetings/events/CLE's. A special thank you to Board Member, Maria del Carmen Ramos, Esq. and Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP for hosting all of THBA's Board of Director's meetings and membership meetings in 2017! THBA truly appreciates your generosity!
