To all the Nobles, Ladies and their Families,

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a Happy New year. This was a year where you gave thanks for many things that the year before you took for granted.

We have many things to feel fortunate about, blessed or just plain lucky during 2020. When you look at just one single day it doesn’t seem like it, but, when you look at the entire year as a whole it was not anywhere near as bad as it could have been.

Next year is stacking up to be a very good year, none of us can wait until we can get out and see each other again, and not just on a computer monitor.

The El Jebel annual elections were held on December 14th and the 2021 officers were elected. Congratulations to all of you! The Installation will be shared at the Janu-ary Annual Meeting. Potentate – Noble Ron Williamson, Chief Rabban – Noble Ken Jones, Assistant Rabban – Noble Grady Carter, High Priest and Prophet – Noble Jim Dawkins, Oriental Guide – Noble Doug Kelly, Treasurer P.P. Rich Silver, and Recorder – Noble Jay Bobick. I know Noble Ron has an exciting year planned, and as we move forward El Jebel needs all our support.

Karri and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and support during a difficult year.

The Divan was on top of their game and dealt well with everything that was handed them. The aides were pre-pared for a great year and did a very wonderful job when they were able to.

A Special thanks to Greg and Kendy for keeping Karri and I in line and bringing back some tradition to El Jebel.

The building Trustees got a lot accomplished and did a great job for El Jebel where the building was concerned.

Karri and I had a good time this past year even with eve-rything that transpired.

I usually end my article with, Until next month, well this is next month and will be ended this way.

I want to express our sincere and great appreciation and thanks to one individual who has been the heart and soul of all the Nobility and their families for the last 4 decades at El Jebel and that is:

Susan Boles.

A message from the First Lady of El Jebel

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, or how ever you celebrate this season. I hope you remembered to celebrate while keeping your mini-mum of six-feet distancing and always wearing your mask! Personally, I found it difficult to eat prime rib and drink red wine with that silly mask on and I do not have a table large enough for everyone to stay six feet apart while eating dinner, but we did wash our hands.

Sadly, this will be my last article for The Red Fez, I will be passing the literary baton onto Robyn for next month. I wish Robyn all the best in her year, and I sincerely hope we get control of this virus; I know Ron & Robyn have exciting events planned for next year and I miss seeing everyone in person.

I wish to thank our Aides who put a tremendous amount of work in to planning events for us, which, you know we had to cancel. It was an awful lot of work and then the sadness of having to cancel. I am so sorry for that. We truly appreciate all your work and effort.

I wish to thank the Divan for everything they have done to keep this organization running during this pandemic. They work hard daily doing things that are not always seen.

I also wish to thank the Ladies; we all know it is the Ladies who run everything. We keep the Nobles orga-nized, we make sure they know what is going on, what needs to be done, when to do it, etc. Without the ladies, the organization would not be what it is. Thank you, La-dies.

In closing, I wish to thank Kendy, she is my Lady, she keeps me organized, she reminds me when I need to do something, what I need to wear, how I need to walk, and talk. The best thing she does is correct all my spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes in my Red Fez arti-cles. She is my Rock! I am so thankful to have her this year.

In closing, I wish everyone a Happy but Safe New Year. Stay Healthy and I miss everyone.

WELCOME TO EL JEBEL 2021

A new year has arrived for everyone and the ills of 2020 are past. Let us now look forward to a better year to come. The vaccine is being distributed and, hopefully, we will be able to join together again by summer. Now is the time for us to rejoice and plan ahead to make our El Jebel Shrine grow in spirit and numbers for 2021! Our officers have been elected and appointed for our Temple, Units and Clubs. The Temple Calendar has been published. Our new Potentate has begun his year on a high note, and we all should be looking forward to the time we may begin again having the fun and fortune of being Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Of course, there is an effort needed by us all to be active in our common interests to foster our “recovery.” For each of us, the best first effort will be to seek and invite other Masons to join El Jebel. With the annual and unfortunately necessary suspensions, our membership has dropped well below our ending year total of 892. Please remember that we are all members of the “Membership Committee” to bolster our Fraternity. Contact your Masonic brothers and invite them to learn about our Shrine and include our ever-growing Phi-lanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children. Let’s all grow our Temple together as we unite in this all-important project.

Our 14 December 2020 Stated Meeting by ZOOM was a resounding success. The Potentate opened the ZOOM Meet-ing at 7:00 pm with our Chaplain giving an invocation and our High Priest & Prophet leading the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag. The Trustees were asked to provide an update on our building. Trustee Greg Rindone stated that we lost the suite 390 tenant and gained a suite 350 tenant. There are still four suites available, and they are being shown regularly by our realtor. New cameras have been added to the 2nd and 3rd floors for better coverage. Trustee Jim Fitzpatrick gave thanks to all that have assisted in maintaining our building, and Trustee Emit Hurdelbrink discussed the future plans to update our building camera system to be more efficient in surveillance.

The Potentate asked our Chief Rabban to announce the award he had presented. Noble Ron stated that Noble Ron Dunsmore was given an Award of Excellence for his years of dedicated service and work in support of El Jebel and its members, as well as our philanthropy. The potentate an-nounced and showed a video of the awards that were pre-sented in person earlier following COVID procedures. The Leading by Example Award was given to Nobles Don Weiser, Chuck Petersen, and Jim Taylor. Noble Joel Roche received his Marshal Emeritus and Noble Jim Oliver his Chaplain Emeritus. Recorder Jay Bobick received his Shrine Recorders Association Past President’s Medal. Illus-trious Sir Jim Fitzpatrick received his 50-year pin. High Priest & Prophet Grady Carter was presented his El Jebel Collar.

Prior to the election, Illustrious Sir Tony Dattilo gave a brief

inspiring history of Masonry and El Jebel in Colorado followed by instructions as to the election process. The election process worked well with a big thanks to those charged with making it happen: Ken Jones and Jim Dawkins working the ZOOM prep-arations and execution; Tony Dattilo, Jim Fitzpatrick, and Jim Taylor leading the actual elections; Joe Kent organizing every-thing to perfection; and all Nobles that supported the process and attended the meeting. There were 71 Nobles that took time and effort to be an integral part of the election process and a big thank you to each one. The lists of officers are already in this Red Fez and are not needed here. Now we need to give our support to them as we build a great 2021.

It is our custom to recognize those Past Potentates that attended the meeting. A thanks goes to: Illustrious Sirs Dick Williams, Jim Fitzpatrick, Ron Cosens, Dick Karns, Tony Dattilo, Jim Stewart, Matt Raia, Rich Silver, and Bobby Marner; as well as Al Kaly Illustrious Sirs Roger Mendenhall, Past Potentate and Brian Carter, Potentate. Also attending was Past Grand Master Most Worshipful Claud Dutro.

After the elections, Illustrious Sir Tony Dattilo gave a Power-Point presentation about our new Memorial Wall in the front of our building showing the construction and completion. He fol-lowed with reminding all that the wall was built not only to recognize those from the past, but also to provide space for new memorial bricks. Contact the office or Tony for details.

For our 2021 Fundraising, Assistant Rabban Ken Jones is ex-ploring a virtual Sportsmen’s Raffle and other virtual options to increase our fundraising opportunities. High Priest & Prophet Grady Carter remarked that this summer there will be the Poker Run open to all. Stay tuned for details as our year progresses.

Our Chaplain presented a prologue, prayer and explanation about the annual “In Challa,” Black Camel, for those we lost in 2020. There were 34 names read. We bid them farewell with condolences and comfort to their families.

There being no further business to come before the body, the Potentate thanked all for attending and closed the meeting at 8:20 pm, peace and harmony prevailing.

Stay safe, continue to wear a mask even after your virus shots, and see you on ZOOM at 7 pm, 11 January.

EL JEBEL SPORTS CAR

CLUB

FROM THE

HOME OFFICE

OF THE

CHIEF RABBAN

Sending you best wishes for a

Happy and Healthy New Year!

I would like to start my article off this month with a huge thank you to Illustrious Sir Joe Kent for the fantastic job he has done this year as Potentate. What a difficult year he has had, but he found ways to bring us together with a meal brought to our door and Zoom meetings. Very disappointing for Illustrious Sir Joe, and his lady Karri and their team to plan a year then have to cancel one event or activity after another because of COVID-19. He did his best to keep us all safe and connect-ed. A huge thank you to Illustrious Sir Joe and Lady Karri.

Our many thanks to Susan Boles. By the time this Red Fez goes to print she will officially be retired. I don’t know about you, but it is going to be really strange going into the office and not see Susan sitting at her desk. We will miss her but we are very happy for her. Enjoy your retirement, Susan! As soon as we can start meeting again, we would like to have a huge party. We will celebrate Susan’s retire-ment and the fact that we can finally be together again.

As we reflect on 2020, we have experienced a year unlike any other. More Zoom meetings than we ever thought pos-sible, delivery of our dinner before a Zoom meeting, the new El Jebel Plaza finished with more bricks available for purchase. In October, we brought in four new nobles, hope-fully we will get to meet them face-to-face very soon. We had two “Let Me Out” parades this fall and elections and appointments were accomplished on December 14 via Zoom. What would we have done without Zoom this year???

2021 is starting like 2020 finished. National Western Stock Show, the East/West Shrine Game, the WCSC Instal-lation, the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, Easter Sunrise Ser-vice, our Potentates Cruise to the Pacific Northwest ALL cancelled. We are trying to reschedule some events until later in the year so please watch for updates. Do you watch the Rose Bowl Parade each year on television and wish you could be there to smell the roses? Our Travel Committee is working on another trip for us. We will work on the Shrine float for a couple of days then watch the Rose Bowl parade January 1, 2022. Watch for details.

Installation will be small and like nothing we have ever had. It will be outside to keep everyone safe. The Installa-tion will be videotaped and shared at the Annual Meeting. With all of us continuing to be patient, it appears that by summer we might be able to actually welcome everyone back to the Shrine. Stay safe and healthy, we hope to see everyone soon.

LET’S HAVE FUN ‘N 21.

Helping Kids Through Fun and Fellowship

Noble Ron Williamson,

Chief Rabban

2020 was a bummer for actual performing in parades and attending events, as nearly all had to be cancelled. That being the norm, our unit did as many others, and retained the 2020 Officers for 2021. The Shrine did hold their election of Officers and we have a new slate for the year. We wish to congratulate the following : Potentate : Ill. Sir Ron Williamson Chief Rabban : Ken Jones Assistant Rabban : Grady Carter High Priest & Prophet : Jim Dawkins Oriental Guide : Doug Kelly Treasurer : Ill. Sir Rich Silver Recorder : Jay Bobbick We also would like to acknowledge and thank Ill. Sir Jim Stewart for serving as Treasurer for 2020 and doing a commendable job of cleaning up our financial state of affairs and putting them in order ! Assuming 2021 solves the virus pandemic and things get back to “normal” we would like to offer - If you want to be active and are looking for a unit to have fun, give us a try. We meet every month on the second Wednesday for lunch If you have a sports car, or convertible, you can be an Active member. BUT, you can also be a Social member if you do not have a qualifying car to be Active. If interested, call John Kesig 303-460-0607, or, Ron Co-sens 303-794-4851. Keep it between the ditches and enjoy !

Pipe Band

By Kent Burns

I hope all y’all had a happy and safe holiday season. Now we may be able to finally rid ourselves of the deba-cle that was 2020. From arson to virus, the past year out-did itself in things bad, things that could go wrong (and did), things that are best forgotten, even if not forgiven. We should all extend condolences to those Worshipful Masters who watched their planned-for and much-anticipated years fall apart. And that especially includes our own Ill. Sir Joe Kent, who had his year wiped away before it even got started. But all the people will survive; we can only hope the various lodges and especially El Jebel will as well. Remember in whom you put your trust, and that when we are at the end of our rope, there is help to hang on that will always be there when needed. You have only to ask. And here, I will suggest that we should all pull together to aid and assist all the Nobles who are trying to keep the ship afloat. It won’t be easy, but it will be rewarding. The Shrine, as an institution, is noble in its philanthropy; let us be Noble(s) in our endeavors. The Pipe Band was luckier than most of the inner-bodies. We were able to meet in various homes and pro-vide a few neighborhoods with a little escape from the drudgeries of daily existence. We were able to enjoy the camaraderie we all crave. We were even able to don our kilts and perform at Red Rocks. While it was not exactly a sold-out performance nor were we the head-liner, we can still boast and add this to our list of accomplishments. In actuality, we played for the CSP graduation as we do every year, only this time it was held at a venue of some notoriety. (There was enough room to “spread out” and maintain “social distancing.”) And even more important-ly, we were able to honor our veterans with the annual Veterans Day Commemoration in Littleton hosted by the Littleton VFW and American Legion Post. The Band is always honored to be part of such ceremonies, and (to borrow a phrase) neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor COVID will prevent us from participating, even if it is only one of us. This would normally be the time of year to which we look forward the most – it should be the annual trek to Aspen for our joint-performance with the AFA cadets. However, we were not asked (can’t imagine why not) nor were the cadets allowed to go. Their protocol requires fourteen days campus quarantine after returning from their Christmas break, and the weekend would have been on days 11-14. We can only hope that our presence will be greatly missed, and that next year we will be invited back. This will be the first year in twenty-five or so we will not be making that trip. Another pair of casualties and for the same reason are the annual pilgrimages to Snowmass for Mardi Gras and to Grand Junction for their installation. Ah well, maybe next year – hopefully. Another casualty of the “gift from China” was the Band conferring the third degree for Longs Peak Lodge. Most

of us fall into one of those “most susceptible” categories, so we were a little uneasy about the whole thing (especially given the size of the lodge room – about the size of half the ballroom). So we postponed it. Now we cannot field a full team due to various scheduling con-flicts. And there is always the question of what will the parameters be next month for gatherings. We might be precluded due to Imperial or Grand Lodge edicts. Guess we just have to wait and see. As we enter that long, cold, dreary part of the year known as winter in the Rockies, those of us who don’t ski are anxiously looking forward to the coming of spring. ‘Course, we have one member who really doesn’t care what the weather is locally. He has several back-drops he can use for his ZOOM business meetings that show he is suffering the effects of the cold and snow when he is ac-tually comfortably ensconced on his yacht in San Diego. He sits behind a desk or conference table to hold these “meetings,” but that begs the question “Is he wearing a full suit, or just the coat and tie because he has his swim trunks on?” Just don’t stand up and spoil the image!! So, as Masons, we look forward to greater things, and true to our teachings, we will look beyond the gloom and doom to that time when all things will return to normal. (Whatever that may be.)

Sandblasters

By Matthew Madrid

Greetings Nobles and Ladies,

A few weeks ago a survey was sent out asking for op-tions on attending or cancelling our yearly winter outing down in Chandler, Arizona.

After assessing the survey and making a few follow up calls, an overwhelming majority of our members decided to cancel our yearly trip to Arizona until 2022 due to the ongoing pandemic.

I know many of us were looking forward to the geta-way after nine months of quarantine but the health and safety of all Sandblasters, family, and guests is always, and will always be our highest priority.

We look forward to the upcoming 2021 golf season and remain hopeful restrictions will be lifted and we will be able to once again meet as the tight knit group that we are. Stay safe and happy holidays.

The Sandblasters meet on the last Wednesday of each month at the Golden Corral at 11:30 AM on West Hamp-den Ave. (River Point Shopping Center).

Computer Club

By J & J Taylor

On Tuesday, December 8th, the Computer Club met with 10 members (including ladies): Mike W., George V., Jim & Judy T., Ron & Robyn W., Ed H., Ken B, Rick F., and Bill G. President Ed ran the meeting from home by Zoom. After the prayer and pledge, the minutes were approved as written in the Red Fez. Jim gave the Treas-urer’s report (no new transactions, except for the 5 dues checks to be entered).

Ed is using a roller walker and crutches now; Judy is doing fine. According to Ron Williamson, Ron Dun-smore had another chemo treatment, Rich Silver has a new hip, and Don Myer has a new knee.

The only correspondence was Tony D.’s letter, thanking the Computer Club for their donation to the “Plaza Fund”. For Old Business, it is still undecided about the picture-taking of the Divan.

President Ed asked if there was anything for Good of the Order, and Jim gave a quick run-down of “Colorado Gives Day.”

There was no New Business.

Ron W. gave the Divan report: They will try to see if installation in January could/would be held out-doors; after the 18th of December there will be new guide-lines. Monday the 14th will be elections; if there are no additions to the ballot, this will be done by Zoom. If there are new names to the ballot, voters will have to de-liver their ballots (as per Imperial). Shrine meetings will continue to be held by Zoom through the 1st quarter of 2021. Ron W. sent in an entry to the Shriners Internation-al competition with a write-up about the “Let Me Out” parades done in November. Jim (Judy) will send in a dif-ferent entry, also, and Ed was encouraged to send in one in about Zoom Bingo.

The program for the meeting today was about Zoom. Jim and Ed told different tips about getting on and using it.

The Computer Club will meet by Zoom next year, on January 12, 2021. You are welcome to join in---just email a note to Williamsons, who will be the hosts, and they will email the link to you.

El Jebel Motor Corps

(Cooler Nobles, Jeep Patrol, Keystone Kops, Motor Patrol)

Congratulation’s to our newly elected Divan! It is our hope that the Motor Corps can support you in parades as in years past. We really don’t have any information on the installation as of yet (do to COVID restrictions in place) so keep an eye out for emails.

Thank you! Illustrious Sir Joe Kent and the 2020 Divan for keeping us all informed and safe. We realize this year was not what you had planned but are grateful for your unwavering guidance during an unprecedented time. We are very Proud of you!

We currently don’t have any gatherings scheduled (due to COVID-19). Take the time to reach out and call that Noble or his family. Let them know that you were think-ing about them and when this strange time is over you look forward to seeing then again. It doesn’t take to much time and the benefits to all are amazing.

We have not sent out any dues notices as of yet but will do so in the coming months. The Garage rent has been paid through 2021 and out side of updating and repairing vehicles we really don’t have any bills.

As always should you need help getting around or need supplies picked up call 303-514-2102 and Motor Corps will do it’s best to assist. We are few but we will help where we can during this changing time.

Congratulations to our New Divan Members

We would like to begin by thanking Illustrious Sir Jim Stewart, P.P. for being our Treasurer for the last two years. Also, a very special thank you to Noble Joel Roche for the many years he has served as our Marshal. You both will be missed.

We would like to welcome the three Nobles that will be joining our Divan.

Congratulations to Noble Doug Kelley who has been elected Oriental Guide and will be installed at the Janu-ary Annual Meeting. Noble Doug is retired as a Director of the Denver Animal Protection and Denver Animal Shelter. He is now a self-employed business owner of a pet sitting, dog walking business specializing in aggres-sive and behavior problems. So, if your pet has an atti-tude, send him to Noble Doug.

Noble Doug is an active Mason as he has twice been Master to his Blue Lodge, Lakewood Lodge No. 170. He belongs to the Denver Consistory, York Rite and joined El Jebel Shrine in 2014. He joined the Clowns and has been President twice. It’s only fitting his profes-sional Clown name would be “Tiny”. In addition to his work with the Shrine, Noble Doug works with one of our Masonic youth groups, Job’s Daughters. He is a past Associate Bethel Guardian of Bethel #40. Currently he is serving as Associate Grand Guardian of Job’s Daughters for the State of Colorado.

Congratulation to Illustrious Sir Rich Silver P.P. who has been elected Treasurer and will also be installed at the January Annual Meeting.

We all know Illustrious Sir Rich served as Potentate of El Jebel in 2017 and 2018. He has been married to Lady Janet for 34 years.

Illustrious Sir Rich belongs to Denver Lodge No. 5 and Blackhawk Lodge No. 11, Denver Consistory and York Rite. He joined El Jebel Shrine in 2008 and belongs to the Keystone Cops, Cooler Nobles, Dune Buggy Patrol and the Medical Staff. Illustrious Sir Rich also serves on the Board of Governors for Shriners Hospitals for Children®, Salt Lake City. Illustrious Sir Rich is employed by KB Home as a Financial Officer and Janet works for KSL Capital Partners. In their spare time, they enjoy traveling and playing golf.

It is my honor to appoint Noble Mike Terry as the Mar-shal for the 2021 Shrine year. He has been married to Lady Robin for 42 years and they have two children. No-ble Mike works at C.A. Technologies, a subsidiary of Wagner Company, and Robin works for the State of Col-orado in the 17th Judicial District.

Noble Mike belongs to Paul Revere Lodge No. 130, and is a member of the Denver Consistory. He joined El Jebel Shrine in 1998 and was a member of the Rumble Bees for many years and now belongs to the Dune Buggy Patrol.

Noble Mike’s favorite activities are fishing and parad-ing. He travels to Canada every year to fish. He says, “that is the only place to catch big fish”. When he is not fishing you will find Noble Mike polishing his Dune Buggy and getting it ready to parade. FUN ‘N 21.

Western Colorado Shrine Club

By Steve Thomas

Western Colorado Shrine Club had a Zoom meeting again in December. It was called to order at 11:30 by President Chris Giesler. Sec, Andrew BE talked about our web page and getting more access to it. Looking to stay with Zoom meeting in January (virus permitting) maybe even in person. We voted to have 2 more on the hospital travel board. They are Fred Carson and Daran Mahoney who both are fathers to Shrine Children. Congratulations to you both and good luck. El Jebel had it's first ever (and I hope the last) Zoom election of Officers. Glad to see the Divan followed through as planned. Congratulations to Illustrious Sir Ron Williamson, Chief Rabban Ken Jones, Assistant Rabban Grady Carter, High Priest and Profit Jim Dawkins, Orien-tal Guide Doug "clown Tiny" Kelley, Treasurer Rich Sil-ver and Recorder Jay Bobick. A big thanks to Illustrious Sir Joe Kent, Lady Karri and all the Divan for leading us through a very difficult and trying year. Congratulations to Ron Dunsmore on his Award of Ex-cellance. Don Weiser, Chuck Peterson, Jim Taylor and Joel Roche for receiving the Leading by Example Award. Grady Carter received the Jewel of Honor collar and 7 Nobles received 50 Year Pins. Congrats to all. Illustrious Sir Joe again thanked Susan Boles for her long and wonderful service to El Jebel and hopes all will in some way try to keep in touch with her and thank her as well. WCSC Clowns are still hiding in the weeds and Tri-County is still hungry and waiting to meet and enjoy the fun of being together.

El Mejdel Temple No. 47

Daughters of the Nile

Carole Bolduc, PQ

I’m sure everyone spent a very different Christmas cele-bration this year; thankfully, 2020 has come to an end and 2021 promises to hold a brighter future. It’s been a tough year for all of us, but usually following the bad and hard times, comes good and positive ones. On Monday, December 7th, a “virtual” Session via ZOOM was held with business conducted as usual and on December 17th, via ZOOM, El Mejdel Temple initiated a new Princess in an Obligation-only Session. We are hap-py to welcome our newest Princess Kim Carter and look forward to meeting her at our in-person Sessions, hope-fully, very soon. We will be having a “virtual” Session on Monday, Janu-ary 4th; information to participate is in the most recent El Mejdel Messenger. We have been doing very well with our “virtual” Sessions as our attendance has been be-tween 20 and 30 people. In times such as these, technolo-gy is a great lifeline to stay in touch and keep our Temple running smoothly. All events for the months of January and February have been cancelled in deference to the health of our ladies, but we want to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year! There’s no way to go but up!

Dune Buggy Patrol

By Don Weiser

Happy New Year to everyone!! It is 2021 and here is hoping that everyone has survived the holidays, and are healthy. As we begin this new year, we may have made our New Year’s resolutions. Now let us see how well we can keep them. We are all aware that the COVID-19 virus is still with us and making the same restrictions on activi-ties. Here is hoping that the inoculations will help to con-trol things, so we are able to get back to a more normal way of life. The use of our Shrine areas is still restricted to 5 per-sons, so no meetings in person. Our new officers are, Jay Bobick President, Mike Terry Vice President, Don Strand Sec./Tres., Don Weiser Red Fez Reporter. At our November meeting, we discussed our usual unit Christmas party. It was decided that due to COVID re-strictions, we will plan to do a Christmas in July 2021. We also want to remind everyone that 2021 Unit and Shrine dues are to be paid before December 31. Please get those dues paid promptly. There will be a Dune Buggy ZOOM meeting on January 13th, with information coming soon. The meeting will start around 6:30 pm with a happy hour, so be sure to have a drink of your choice on hand. The regular meeting starts at 7pm, where information will be presented con-cerning the status of our unit, the Shrine, and upcoming events that have been postponed or canceled. Hopefully, everyone has read the December minutes that were sent out by Don Strand, so let us know if any changes need to be made. Have you purchased your 2020 – 2021 El Jebel Shrine calendar yet? They are available at the Shrine Of-fice, or from our Chief Rabban Ron Williamson. The cost is $25.00 each, and proceeds go to the operating fund. One last bit of information. There are 2 dune buggies currently up for sale. If you are interested in belonging to a great, fun filled unit, here is your chance to join us and get your buggy! Both buggies are in very good condition and looking for a new Shriner home. If interested, contact Don Strand at 303-799-6629 for more information on owners contact information.

Coming Events:

Highlands Lodge 2:00 pm

January 11th El Jebel Shrine Zoom Meeting 7:00 pm

With this New Year starting, my wish to all is that we can begin parading and enjoying each others company before spring.

For Optars

by J. & J. Taylor

Optars members met for a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, December 1st, at 6:00 p.m. There were six peo-ple present: Ed H., Jim & Judy T., Kim C., Roger B. & Ron D. The normal opening happened, with prayer, pledge, approved minutes, and approved Treasurer’s re-port. A thank you letter was read by Jim from Tony D., for Optars’ contribution to the Plaza fund. Dues are being taken; only 4 members have paid. The treasury shows the same amount as in May, except for the dues mentioned.

Ed Hamm reported on his physical therapy; he is now on crutches, and on the last day of his wound care (from a bedsore). Judy said she’s feeling fine; she’s been on her Protocel for 3 ½ months now. Ron D. just spent from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at his Chemo treatment, and was wiped out (left a little early).

Announced: Elections and installation are com-ing up at El Jebel and the Red Fez is out. Following, those present talked about what they did for Thanksgiv-ing.

The next meeting will be on January 5th at 7:00 p.m. by Zoom, and hopefully, members and guests will have Christmas pictures to show. Keep on clickin’!

RV Roamers

by J. & J. Taylor

On December 20th RV Roamers met on Zoom for a wonderful get-together. Present were: Jim & Judy T., Jim S., Ken S. & Bonnie C., Tony D., Bruce H., Roger & JoAnn B., Yoriko & Billy U., Jan & Scott C., along with our Divan Rep, Ken Jones---14 in all!

This wasn’t a formal meeting; these friends were happy to get together and visit, and get caught up on everyone’s lives. Below are some of the going’s-on:

We were happy to see Bruce, who as you know, lost Marylyn this year, and had gone through extensive sur-gery on his back six months ago. To top all that, he had a bout with COVID, but is now recovered. His daughter, Valerie, has been helping him with bills and shopping. He looked great!

Ken S. has been trying to keep his house clean (unsuccessfully, he says); Bonnie had been reading. To-ny and Ellen will be visiting their daughter; he reported that Roamers’ January dinner at Malone’s will probably be cancelled. Scott & Jannice are staying home for Christmas, but will probably stay a couple months in Tuc-son later this winter. He had slipped on the ice 2 weeks ago, and was a little banged up right now.

Umsteds played a lot of pickleball in Casa Grande AZ, but since getting home in the summertime have only gone out one time except for groceries! Roger talked about the cleanup going on at their Grand Lake house---everyone up there is trying to recycle tons of metal, etc., and the landfills are getting full. There is also a question of water---run-off is polluting everything.

Jim & Judy are walking a lot, and keeping tabs on Judy’s drink (for alternative cancer treatment); when she drives they have to hide somewhere when it’s time to drink her medication, or she’ll be accused of drinking and driving!

Divan Rep, Ken Jones, said they were going to Las Vegas to visit a new grandbaby---at least Marlene was, and she might take Ken! He talked about a few things, like installation (of the Divan and of our unit). He also thanked Tony and Jim for the wonderful job they did at the El Jebel elections on Zoom---said it went off with-out a hitch.

More talk commenced about the COVID shots to be coming “for our age group”, hopefully this spring. Jim S. had already signed up and was scheduled to be in the second group to be “shot”.

Since the restaurants might be unavailable for our spring “Inning “dinner meetings, they will all be “TBD”, or by Zoom. We could have cold take-out dinners and eat in our cars or RV’s, but the ambiance isn’t so good.

The Outings in summer will be a welcome change---our RV’s are usually safe, unless we pick up a hitchhiker. Planned are KOA in Colorado City on June 10th through the 13th, with Scott as host; Mountaindale in July (host TBD); possibly Glenwood Springs KOA in August, with Jim S. as host; and KOA in Ft. Collins for September with Billy as host.

If anyone wants to join us, contact President Jim T., and he’ll steer you to the proper (or improper) host for the count. Meanwhile, Zoom in on us (unless Malone’s is open) on January 17th, at 1:00 (p.m.)

The new El jebel plaza

By: Tony Dattilo, P.P.

As we close out this very unusual year of 2020, we’ve managed to achieve a brighter spot in our family treasure of El Jebel Shriners. Thanks to the monetary donations provided by some individuals and units of our Shrine, we were able to obtain a small business contractor to complete the restoration work on our El Jebel Plaza. Our original Plaza was dedicated at our former Shrine home on May 13, 2002, providing a place where members of our Shrine fam-ily could provide a memorial, honorary or historic remind-er of a person or persons who would be ‘enshrined’ in a place of honor in our Plaza. Since the dedication of the original Plaza in 2002, we’ve witnessed many changes at El Jebel Shrine, including several different “configurations” of the Plaza. This latest restoration effort was facilitated to restore the dignity and honor of those Shriners and Masons whose names and/or Masonic groups were engraved in the inserts of the Plaza. The new config-uration provides a visible presence in the landscape near the entryway of our building within the purview of our American Flag, and the well-known statuary of the “Editorial Without Words”. HOW DO I ORDER A BRICK? The process of ordering by our Shrine family members is made easy for you. You may obtain an order blank and facilitate payment by con-tacting our office either by email at [email protected], calling the office at 303-455-3470, or one of our Trustees and Plaza coordinator, Greg Rindone, at 303-918-7299 We have been successful at obtaining a reliable, long term vendor whose mission it is to create the quality and permanent engraved bricks that will stand the tests and rigors of time, thereby providing a lasting tribute to all of our Shrine family who are enshrined and remembered within the Plaza. The process is now reactivated in which various bricks may be ordered for placement in the Plaza. Each of us should consider the purchase and placement of a brick for the Plaza, a perpetual and visible symbol of es-teem for the heroes and loved ones whom we wish to hon-or, or perhaps as a remembrance that each of us have passed this way, a contributor, supporter and participant in the “Greatest Philanthropy in the World”.

There are five levels of bricks that may be ordered. Your combination choice of a purchase level of brick, and your non-deductible donation may be identified by viewing the bricks that are currently placed in the new Plaza, and the options listed below. We have retained the original pricing for the various options of bricks as were identified in 2002. Proceeds from the orders of bricks will be exclusively utilized for the El Jebel Building Fund. The five options are listed here for your information;

“BRONZE LEVEL” $100.00: ‘Antique Red’ 4” X 8” brick with 2 lines of engraving.

(3rd line optional - $15.00 extra).

“SILVER LEVEL” $300.00: ‘Imperial Beige’ 4” X 8” brick with 2 lines of engraving.

(3rd line optional - $15.00 extra).

“GOLD LEVEL” $500.00: ‘Antique Red’ 8” X 8” brick with 3 lines of engraving.

“EMERALD LEVEL” $1000.00: ‘Imperial Beige’ 8” X 8” with 3 lines of engraving.

“DIAMOND LEVEL” $1500.00 and UP: 12” X 12” Black Polished Granite with 4 lines of engraving

(other options available) Watch for a short PowerPoint presentation on our El Jebel website and Facebook page of the “Before, During and After” process of constructing the new Plaza. On a personal note, it was my extreme honor to have partici-pated in the design and construction of this project. The vivid memories of many who once graced our presence as friends and Shriners flooded in as each brick was laid in place. My profound thanks are extended to those who donated their funds to make this concept a reality. It’s my sincere hope that we’ve been successful in honoring you, and all those whose names appear in the Plaza, as a place of visibility, dignity, honor and remembrance for all.

Vintage Iron Patrol

By Bobby

The 2021 elections are now behind us and congratula-tions to the newly elected officers! Please know that the Vintage Iron Patrol will support you as requested and al-lowed.

Our vehicles are covered and our batteries on tenders, all we have now are past memories of parades gone bye. Let’s stay positive for the new year and spread hope to all our members and their families of what could be. Be thankful for what you have and more especially what you don’t.

Wayne is getting around better every day and Vivian has even requested that he help out in the kitchen (great news!). When I last spoke with Phil he was (as usual) back to work and tending to Gloria’s needs. Please keep them in your heart and prayers.

Please watch for meeting schedules via emails. If you would like to attend a Zoom meeting and aren’t sure how to do it call 303-514-2102 and I’ll do my best to help out or direct you to someone who can.

Thank you! Thank You! Susan Boles you made our lives better just by having you in it. You always went the extra mile for us and we wish you nothing but the best in your retirement.

Thank you to Illustrious Sir Joe Kent and the 2020 Di-van for your efforts and leadership during this challenging time. We are very proud of you!

Remember, Rubber side down and Shiny side up!
