REFLECTION FOR EPIPHANY
On this Solemnity of the Epiphany Sacred Scripture tells us that all nations are invited to sing the Lord’s praises for they have been called to hear the good news and worship the long awaited Messiah and King. As the Magi present their gifts to the Child Jesus, we too are invited to present the gift of our lives to the Lord.
How well do we use the gifts God has given us? Do we use our gifts only for our own desires and wants? Or do we put our gifts at the service of others? These are good questions to consider as we begin a new year, a time for resolu-tions and commitments to new and better things. We hear in the Gospel that the Magi were guided to Christ by a star. God desires to guide us all to Christ. Let us make the resolution to be more engaged in the practice of our faith this year, allowing God to guide us as he did the Magi. Let us receive the Sacraments more faithfully this year so that we may grow in wisdom through gifts of the Holy Spirit. Our lives are a gift. Let us treat them as such. May our lives, touched as they have been by Christ, shine brightly for all to see, and be a light in the darkness for all those in need.

GIVING TREE THANK YOUS
The following letter was sent to us from the Chester County Probation and Parole Office. To Msgr Carroll, Fr. Matt Windle, Margaret Kowalski and parishioners of St. Max. It is with great appreciation and thankfulness once again that your church has been a blessing to the many families throughout Chester County. At times the demand seems overwhelming. On behalf of all the families served and myself, I give to you a heartfelt thank you for pressing to be a blessing during this Holiday Season. Your Church has supported the Christmas giving since I started it three years ago. I thank God for each one of you. Basics of the Faith
Basics of the Faith is an ongoing monthly series dealing with basic doctrines of the Catholic Church.
Our topic in 2018-2019 is "All Things Visible and Invisible." We discuss the reality of non-material creation, including angels and devils and their interactions with humanity. Information is drawn from various sources, including the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Angels and Demons, A Christian Primer of the Spiritual World by Michael Patella, and Angels and Demons: What Do We Really Know about them? By Peter J Kreeft You’re welcome to attend any individual session. No prior knowledge or preparation is needed. Our next session will be Sunday, January 6, 2019, from 8:45 to 10:15 am in the Maximilian Room. (Rectory side entrance) The topic will be The Occult, including Spiritual Manipulation, Spiritualism, and Satanism. The session will include a brief video, as well as information from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other sources. Coffee, tea, and cake will be provided. To be added to our mailing list for information on upcoming sessions, contact Anne Chavez at [email protected]. Outlines and some narrated PowerPoints of previous topics, including sessions on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, are available at www.basicsofthefaith.org.
Don’t Come Empty Handed! Thank you to the many parishioners of the St. Maximilian Kolbe community who faithfully bring gifts of non-food items to be shared with our neighbors in need. USCCB Ad Hoc Committee against Racism The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops established a committee to focus on addressing the sin of racism in our society, and even in our Church. All dioceses are invited to host a USCCB Listening Session on Racism. Selected speakers will share their experiences in an environment of prayer that will allow an understanding of the weight of the harm.. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will host several events to discuss this very important topic.
