Italy (-5.4% to 10.345m tonnes) Germany (-5.5% to 9.514m tonnes) Spain (+5.2% to 6.37m tonnes) France (+3.7% to 4.226m tonnes)

o Statistics for the first six months of 2015 show a cut in steel scrap imports by the EU-28 (-11.9% to 1.414m tonnes).

o Turkey remained the world’s foremost steel scrap importer in spite of a drop in overseas steel scrap purchases of 12.9% to 8.472m tonnes in the first half of 2015. India was the world’s second largest steel scrap importer (+29.9% to 3.168m tonnes).

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN NEWS & FINDINGS

o Despite a steep reduction in EU-28 steel scrap exports in the first six months of 2015 (-12.1% to 7.455m tonnes), it remained the world leader in terms of volumes shipped abroad. The USA remained the world's second largest steel scrap exporter (-9.1% to 6.902m tonnes).

o The EU-28 is a net steel scrap exporter, having recorded a steel scrap export surplus of 6.041m tonnes in January-June 2015.

o The EU-28’s apparent domestic supply of steel scrap was 55.441m tonnes in the first half of 2015 (-1.04% compared to the same period in 2014).

SUMMARY OF THE MAIN NEWS & FINDINGS
