Customized Training Requests Busy schedules sometimes make it difficult to get away from work to attend training

at 1111 E. Broad St. If this is the case, contact us so we can plan and present shorter,

a great activity for staff meetings, retreats and/or work group trainings. The

Emotional Intelligence for Busy Professionals Date: April 3 Time: 8:30am – 11:00am

Issues like lack of trust and commitment, unresolved conflicts, and the inability of individuals to understand how their actions impact others often stop the most promising teams from delivering great results. This course will include activities that busy employees can use to help

improve their levels of emotional intelligence and become more effective. The exercises included will help employees deal with anger and emotional triggers, pick up on cues from teammates, encourage communication, and much more. Several activities will be chosen as examples to work through issues in each course.

There are workplace politics at play in every organization! Workplace politics encompasses the power and authority processes and behaviors that are at work in a particular workplace. “Social and emotional intelligence involves understanding your feelings and behaviors, as well as those of others, and applying this knowledge to your interactions and relationships.” This course will explore five Competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Good Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making and their role in working beyond workplace politics!

This course takes an in depth look at the damage social media can have on your professional image. Conflict, change, and stress are a regular part of everyday organizational life. The key to employee survival is resilience & grit, the ability to bounce back after adversity. Being resilient and having grit doesn't prevent tough challenges from happening, but it does provide individuals with the strength and wherewithal to recover and move on time and time again.

Developing resilience is a lot like engineering a building to withstand an earthquake. It requires a solid foundation and a flexible structure that won't crack or crumble under pressure. In human terms, it translates into self-esteem, connections with others, mental agility, and effective coping strategies. This course will be interactive and will provide attendees with practical tips to increase their resilience and grit.

Mastering the Interview Date: April 5 Time: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

The interview is one of the key elements of the job search process. As with any skill, we can get better at it with preparation and practice. In this workshop, participants will explore how to prepare for an interview and become familiar with the types of questions to expect, as well as the questions they should think about asking. They will discuss necessary preparation for second interviews, testing, and shadowing, as well as how to follow up on their interview sessions.

Monitoring your budget will help you identify wasteful expenditures, adapt as your financial situation changes, and achieve your financial goals. After completing this course, participants will be able to turn their personal goals into numbers, build, negotiate and manage a budget...even if they aren't a numbers person.

While many organizations promise to deliver incredible customer service, some are better at delivering than others. This course is designed to look at the many challenges of providing excellent customer service over the phone, including the best ways to listen and be heard. Participants in this class will walk away with practical tips to deliver the best and most helpful customer service possible.

This course is produced by the Ohio Ethics Commission to discuss an overview of the Ohio Ethics Law. This course is two hours in length. It is applicable and appropriate for state and local governments (and fulfills the training requirement for City officials and employees). CLE approved!

Building Trust – The Trust Advantage Date: April 26 Time: 8:30am – 12:00pm

Competency: Integrity & Trust Cost: $79

In a world where TRUST has become the most precious resource, you can't afford to be without it. This session will discuss the 8 pillars of trust and how you can personally increase your trustworthiness, a foundation for genuine success. For when leaders learn how to implement these pillars, it is then that they enjoy better retention, relationships, reputations, and results. This session is based off of the national best seller, "The Trust Edge" by David Horsager.

Generating and managing fair, accurate, and non-biased documentation of employee behavior and performance is one of the most important skills all supervising managers need to develop. Doing so provides a written record of necessary support for such actions as employee promotion, disciplinary action and/or litigation. Participants will learn more about the benefits of clear and concise documentation, as well as the drawbacks of over-documentation.

Teamwork is essential in any successful organization and to have an effective team, an organization must be comprised of individuals who pride themselves on being great team players. Many of us would consider ourselves to be team players, but are we really? Do we know what that takes and what managers consider to be the qualities that make a person a team player, or that make a good team player a ‘great’ team player? Everyone brings their own skills and strengths to the table; understanding how to use those skills within the context of a team is vital to help an organization succeed.

This course explores how to challenge individual negativity, as well as how to protect yourself from the negativity of others. Stop the Bleed Date: Postponed until May 18 Time: 8:30am – 10:00am

Competency: Safety & Emergency Preparedness Cost: no cost

Led by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, the Stop the Bleed initiative is designed to save lives by educating civilians on basic bleeding control techniques. The most common cause of preventable deaths from severe injury is uncontrolled bleeding. Similar to efforts to educate bystanders on how to save lives with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses, this B-Con course empowers civilians to decrease preventable deaths. Participants will be able to how to identify and respond to life-threatening bleeding. Hands-on scenarios will allow participants to practice packing wounds and applying

tourniquets. You do not need to have any type of medical background to participate in this course.

Building Self-Esteem & Assertiveness Skills Date: May 8 Time: 8:30am – 11:30am

Competency: Personal Development; Communication Cost: $59

Building your self-esteem is essential for confidence and success, and it all begins with you! Of all the judgments you make in life, none is as important as the one you make about yourself. Without some measure of self-worth, life can be enormously painful. During this course, participants will discover some simple techniques that dramatically change how they feel about themselves. Participants will discuss the importance of learning self-acceptance and asserting oneself.

Defensive Driving Date: May 9 Time: 12:00pm – 4:00pm

This four-hour course motivates participants to change their behind-the-wheel behaviors and attitudes. It gives them key understanding, skills and techniques to avoid collisions and reduce future violations. The result is a more responsible driver who grasps best practices to prevent injury and death while operating a motor vehicle.

Introduction to the Opiate Crisis Date: May 9 Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Competency: Safety & Emergency Preparedness Cost: no cost

Columbus is in the midst of an Opiate Crisis. This one-hour session is designed to provide practical skills to participants – preparing participants to take action that can help savea life. By the end of the training, participants will: 1) learn the impact that Opiate Addiction is having on our community; 2) be able to identify and reverse an opiate overdose using Naloxone( Naloxone will not be distributed to participants); and 3) have improved knowledge about

where Columbus residents can turn to access treatment and recovery support.

Dealing with the Impostor Syndrome Date: May 10 Time: 8:30am – 11:30am

Competency: Self-Knowledge; Self-Development Cost: $59

"Impostor Syndrome” is a common concept describing high-achieving individuals who are marked by an inability to internalize their accomplishments and have a persistent fear of being exposed as a “fraud”. This is not a new phenomenon; however, it has become more prevalent among millennials and those as they experience success on varying levels. This session will be interactive to help participants overcome these feelings, and walk away with tips for remaining strong when you’re questioning their abilities and success.

Stop the Bleed Date: May 18 Time: 8:30am – 10:00am

Attainable goals keep you and your coworkers moving forward in the right direction. This goal-setting course helps you identify what makes a goal attainable by discovering your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats when setting goals. Many times goals are identified correctly but poorly accomplished because there is a lack of planning and strategy regarding how the goal will be achieved. This program will dig deep into the goal-setting process to practice writing measurable goals and strategize the best approach to make that goal a reality.

“What If” – A Conversation on Diversity & Inclusion Date: May 17 Time: 8:30am – 10:30am

Competency: Diversity & Inclusion Cost: $39

This is an interactive course and you will have plenty of opportunities to practice what you discuss during the course.

This two-part course is designed to provide participants with skills, information, and practical experience to become effective workplace trainers. Participants will explore adult learning styles; practice writing learning objectives; recognize the importance of preparation; discover their personal training style; and conduct a brief training session. Participants must attend both classes in sequence.

When you say “yes”, what are you really saying “no” to? Far too many times we neglect the important things in life, by taking on too many menial tasks. This course is designed to give participants an opportunity to review their value system and what it means to say “no”. Additionally, others may try to make you feel guilty for saying “no”, but equipped with the knowledge from this session, others’ guilt won’t get too far.

Time Management Tips to Reduce Stress Date: June 20 Time: 8:30am – 10:30am

Today’s workforce is experiencing job burnout and stress in epidemic proportions. Workers at all levels feel stressed out, insecure, and misunderstood. This course will provide attendees specific tips & stress management strategies to use every day.

Speaking & Listening for Results Date: June 21 Time: 8:30am – 10:30am

Competency: Communication; Listening Cost: $39

The cost associated with poor workplace communication is staggering. 70% of small to mid-sized businesses claim that ineffective communication is their primary problem. Employee misunderstandings are said to be very costly for all organizations, regardless of size. This course will depict six common communication errors while providing tips on how to avoid them. This course will help participants understand communication is the best way to avoid problems in the workplace.

Operation Street Smart – The War on Drugs Date: June 27 Time: 12:00pm – 2:00pm

Competency: Ethical Practice; Safety Cost: no cost

The goal of Street Smart is to provide current and up-to-date narcotics information on trends, terminology, paraphernalia, concealment techniques, and physiological effects to those individuals who deal with today’s youth on a daily basis.

Three current/former undercover detectives, who possess over fifty years of combined narcotics experience, conduct the Street Smart presentation. This program includes actual examples of current designer street drugs such as XTC, Bath Salts, Huffing, LSD, GHB, K2/Spice, and Khat. Current drug paraphernalia examples are available to depict tphe ease in camouflaging drug use from adults. A strong emphasis is placed on the physiological effects of the drugs and indicators to look for. So-called “traditional” drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin, and methamphetamine are also covered extensively as teenagers still heavily abuse these drugs. A portion of the program also deals with prescription medications, including DXM, due to the easy accessibility in most households.

employees find valuable for their professional development. Continuing in this

effort, Citywide Training now lists training competencies associated with each

course. These competencies identify specific areas participants can strengthen

after successful completion of each course.

Training should no longer be looked at as a way to get “soft skills”, but yet,

relevant skills needed to continue to develop a competent and efficient

workforce, ready to serve the residents and businesses in the City of Columbus.
