by Brian CheungLTG Div 20

I hope all of you enjoyed the holidays and had the opportunity to spend time with your family and friends. The generous and giving spirit of the holidays should continue through this month, which is in-credibly important! January is the diving board for a huge amount of activities within our division and within the district. The highlight of this issue regards Lieutenant Governor Elections and District Conven-tion Registration. In addition, there are some great events happening locally that I encourage all of you to at-tend!

Yours in Caring and Service,

On Thursday, December 9, 2010, Key Clubbers from all across Morris and Essex Counties descended upon Parsippany High School for the first round of the Generosity Rocks musical competition. The show kicked off at 7PM with many talented performances iuncluding those by division 18’s own Patrick Wu and the Funkensteins. However, while all eleven acts were outstanding, only four could be chosen to move on to the next round of competition. Beatboxer Patrick Wu, Singer Katie Reardon, and singer/acoustic guitar players Ashli Gonzalez and Arvin Zablerio were chosen alongside The Lobaton Project to move onto the next round. All in all, the night was able to raise over $700 for Children’s Specialized Hospital!

Lieutenant Governor: 2011-2012Get Ready for Elections.

article by Meagan KochLTG Div 18

Please email me if you, or someone you know, is interested in

running for lieutenant governor.

Do you have a passion for service, are you a natural leader, would you like to meet people from all across the world, then consider running for the position of lieutenant governor. Any key clubber who is a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in good standing can run for the position of LTG. You do not need to have any executive board experience to run for this position.

For more information on the position of LTG, please read through the elections packet (see below). If you or someone you know are interested in running of LTG, please let me know! Even if your club does not have a candidate interested in running, your club must send 2 delegates to elections! A Lieutenant Governor represents each of the twenty-one divisions in the New Jersey District. He or she serves as a liaison between the clubs in his or her division and the NJ District Board, as well as their representative. The Lt. Governor is required to attend the Mid-Winter Training Conference, District and International Convention, all District Board Meetings, Fall Rally, and the Regional Training Conference for his or her division. He or she must publish at least ten newsletters for his or her clubs, file monthly club and board reports, hold Officers Training Conferences until all officers are trained, publish a divisional roster, and serve on District committees as needed. He or she must also stay in constant contact with his or her clubs, the executive board, and the Kiwanis Board. He or she is expected to organize divisional service projects, hold President’s Council Meetings, and visit each club in his or her division. The duties are many and the time commitment is large, but the amazing leadership experience obtained is even greater. See service agreement.

It’s that time of the year again! The time to begin your planning for the 65th annual New Jersey Key Club District Convention. Although it may seem early I would like to take the time to give you all some preliminary information on this years district convention. District Convention, more commonly known as DCON is a weekend long event held each year at the Valley Forge Convention Center in King of Prussia Pennsylvania. It will be held this year from April 8-10th. It is open to all Key Clubbers and Advisors. DCON is an opportunity to celebrate the success of the past service year and to welcome in a new one. It is a weekend filled with elections, service fairs, sessions, guest speakers, workshops, dances, shopping, new people, contests and so much more. I encourage you ALL to attend this amazing weekend. This year, convention will cost $240 for students and $250 for advisors in a double occupancy room, and $340 for advisors in a single occupancy room. All payments should be sent in no later than Friday, March 18th, or by March 1st, for a discounted rate. Information about this year’s district convention (includ-ing costs and registration specifics) is available in the district mailing you should have received this past week in the DCON REGISTRATION PACKET. However if you have any questions about this awesome weekend, please feel free to contact me.
