President’s MessageWith 2020 Vision, We Carry Forward Our Legacy and Add New BeginningsThis January starts not just another new year, but a new decade! What will it

bring? What traditions will continue to mean so much to us? What new traditions will we start?

The founders of our club would be so pleased to see that what they started is still thriving, still bringing gardeners together to beautify not just our own gardens but our community as well. Over the years we have nurtured partnership with our City and County, with schools and assisted living facilities. We’ve supported and promoted good practices for gardening, horticulture and floral design. Children and adults of all ages enthusiastically participate in our programs. Our events bring members together to have fun, learn something new and meet new people. We’ve planted dozens of trees and contributed to local forest preservation through the Penny Pines Program and our Tree Fund. We continue to encourage students, through gardening and our scholarship awards, to learn more and carry forward their interests in many interrelated fields of horticulture science.

Did you realize that in a few short years Modesto Garden Club will celebrate 100 years of service? Yes, in 2024 we will be a centenarian! We will look back with much pride and look forward to new events, new members, new plant varieties and a probably things we can’t even imagine today. The last century began with horses and buggies, a few automobiles, followed by radios, televisions, talking technicolor movies, then the space age, computers, wireless phones and now self-driving autos. We and our children and grandchildren will be the visionaries for this decade and the remainder of this century. Let’s do this with the same interest and passion of our founders!

“Suddenly, you just know it’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” – Meister Eckhart
