The Cuban Missile Crisis - VIRTUAL

Friday, 2/26, 1:00p-2:30p In October of 1962, the United States and the Soviet Union came within a few minutes of nuclear war. Neither John Kennedy nor Nikita Khrushchev wanted to show weakness by backing down from a dispute about Soviet missiles being deployed in Cuba. Both men did not understand each other and, as a result, made poor decisions based on incorrect assumptions. Eventually, three other men would make world saving decisions - the U.S Secretary of Defense, a reporter for ABC news, and a Soviet submarine officer. The story is fascinating...and frightening.

    Intermediate Spanish - VIRTUAL

In this intermediate-level class, students learn to express themselves properly in Spanish in a variety of situations. Study all aspects of the Spanish language: grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, and spelling. Little Spanish stories, videos and music are part of the course to make it more fun and interesting.

Students joining this program need to have completed a basic Spanish class. Need to understand the main points of clear, standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work or leisure. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.

The Senior Center offers ongoing, 8-week long sessions all throughout the year. The program is arranged through Harper Business Solutions and taught by Ana Trbojevich, Spanish instructor at the Senior Center since 2006! GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO

Join us to reminisce about the Golden Age of Radio when families gathered around the radio and mysteries,

radio plays, quiz shows, westerns, soap operas and more filled the airwaves. Listen to radio recordings from the era of old-time radio, when heroes like Lone Ranger

inspired; Abbott and Costello and Bob Hope made us laugh; and movie stars and celebrities starred on variety shows

like the Grand Ole Opry and Jack Benny Hour.

Discuss popular radio shows that went on to become television shows, including Gunsmoke, Lassie and Guiding Light, and share any favorites you recall.

THANK YOU We want to take this opportunity to thank all our donors who contributed to ETS during our 2020 Annual Appeal. Your generosity and contributions were overwhelming and so very much appreciated. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Looking for a Volunteer Opportunity for 2021? Join the ETS family as a volunteer driver taking older adults to their (non-urgent) doctors’ appointments. The demand for our service is greatly increasing and we need more volunteers! Our volunteers pick up our passengers, take them to their appointments, wait for them, and bring them back home. Our online scheduling software makes it easy to select rides that fit your schedule. We not require a weekly commitment. Simply logon to our scheduling software and see what rides might work for you. We have implemented additional guidelines for both our passengers and volunteers. The additional guidelines were developed using the recommendations of the CDC and IDPH and include required face masks, screening questions, etc.
