Aspiring to Excellence Every Day
As of this publication, we want to let our
readers know that Janus has just been
awarded with another 3-year certification
from the Commission on Accreditation of
Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for several
of our programs. This accreditation speaks
to the high level of services our team provides to our clients and fam-
ilies in need each and every day. To receive such a high level of ac-
creditation, it takes at least six months of intense preparation, a com-
mitted and collaborative group who supports each other and a sup-
portive Board of Directors. I would like to thank the entire Janus staff
for all their hard work and commitment to a successful CARF evalua-
tion. Everyone in the organization participated in this significant,
complex and taxing process, and you all should be extremely proud
of your efforts. A special “thank you” goes out to our Compliance Di-
rector, Amber Williams, and our Compliance Analyst, Maya Jarrow,
who spearheaded and coordinated this project with the team. Kudos!

12 Consecutive Years of CARF Accreditation—An Exceptional Achievement!
Janus of Santa Cruz is pleased to announce that we have received another 3-year certification from the Commis-
sion on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). CARF is the gold standard accreditor of drug and alcohol
treatment facilities, both nationally and internationally. In 2007, Janus set the bar for the industry in the Santa Cruz
area, becoming the county’s first CARF-accredited treatment program. Our current CARF accreditation will extend
that standard through 2021.
Achieving CARF standards for accreditation is an indication of the dedication and commitment of our team to im-
proving the quality of the lives of the clients we serve every day. Our services, personnel and documentation
clearly indicate an established pattern of adherence to the highest standards of care. Most recently we pushed
beyond the current expectations and added many new programs to our accreditation certification, including:
Assessment & Referral (Adults)
Case Management/Services Coordination: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
Day Treatment: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Addictions (Adults)
Detoxification/Withdrawal Management: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
Intensive Outpatient Treatment: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
Outpatient Treatment: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Addictions (Adults)
Outpatient Treatment: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Addictions (Children & Adoles-cents)
Residential Treatment: Alcohol & Other Drugs/Addictions (Adults)
We take immense pride in obtaining this high level of accreditation and in our ongoing pursuit of excel-lence for the past 12 years.

Please Welcome Our New Clinical Director
We are proud to announce the addition of Erin
Carlson-Jones to the Janus team as our new Clini-
cal Director. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
(LCSW), Erin began her tenure at Janus initially as
a contractor providing clinical supervision to licen-
sure-track interns before taking on her current role.
Erin has extensive experience providing clinical
oversight and direction in AOD treatment in San
Jose, in addition to running a crisis stabilization program in Santa Cruz. Before
coming to Janus, Erin spent more than a decade working with children, youth and
families to provide wraparound and therapy services in Santa Clara County. Her
past work experience also includes a tenure at Pathways Treatment Facility in San
Jose and the Crisis Stabilization Unit at Tele-care in Santa Cruz.
Say Hello to Our New Director of MAT Services
Please welcome Amanda Engeldrum Magana, CADC II,
ASW, our new Director of Medication Assisted Treatment
(MAT) Services. Originally from Montana, Amanda ar-
rived in California in 2006 with plans to use her BA in
Psychology in the field of substance use disorders. In
2011, while completing her certificate in Alcohol and Drug Studies at San Jose
City College, Amanda began interning at Janus Community Clinic, quickly becom-
ing a full-time counselor. She was inspired to complete further schooling after see-
ing the prevalence of patients struggling with co-occurring disorders, and achieved
her Masters in Social Work, Community Mental Health Option, from CSU East Bay
in 2015. After occupying roles as Intake Coordinator and Lead Counselor at the
clinic, Amanda has been promoted to the position of Director of MAT Services and
will oversee the delivery of quality recovery services to MAT patients while engag-
ing with community partners to fight the larger opioid epidemic.
Celebrating 15 Years of Service at Janus!
We’d like to congratulate our Compliance Director, Am-
ber Williams, for marking her 15-year anniversary with
the Janus of Santa Cruz team! Amber has worn many
hats during her tenure at Janus— from providing direct
client services at the Perinatal Program to time working
in the Admissions Department and her current role as
head of Compliance. Thanks and congrats, Amber!
