News and current matters

● Printing support for PhD theses has dropped from 1000 € to 250 € and is only usable at Unigrafia. The support covers the mandatory 20 copies of the thesis.

● PhD students have representatives at all doctoral schools (Kumpula: Teemu Saksala) and programmes (PAPU: Antti Rantala). We also have a representative at the department board (Aki Kallonen) but no one at the faculty board. We also lack representation at the university board.

● Big wheel: The required credits for a PhD degree will drop down to 30+10.

● Central administration plans to centralize the application procedures to doctoral programmes, i.e. application would be possible only twice a year for all schools. The association and the doctoral school representatives were against these plans.

Associaton of Doctoral Students

● The goals of the association:

– To advocate the interests of doctoral students and act as a liaison between doctoral students and the university

– Strive to better the education of all doctoral students at the university

– Bring together doctoral students from all corners of our international university

● Activity:

– We have various representatives at various different administrative organs

– ~Monthly pub nights at The Thirsty Scholar (next one in September)

– Other social activities through the year
