HENRY AYANNA Somerville, MA began playing the violin at age 5 as a Suzuki student of Sally Martin. Currently he is a pupil of Emil Altschuler (pupil of Erick Friedman), a member of the JH legacy family. He enjoys chamber music and string orchestra at New England Conservatory Prep Division, Boston, MA.

NOAH SHAFNER New London, CT, has been studying the piano for seven years, harpsichord for one year with John Metz and composition with Art Krieger. He enjoys all areas of classical music and has participated in the Heifetz Symposium for four years. He would like to thank Ms. Kloss for assisting him and making him useful as a collaborative pianist.

JESSE SILVA COSTA Brasilia, Brazil has been playing the violin for three and a half years at the University of Brasilia with Nadia Nedialkova. He would like to thank the Symposium for this opportunity.

NAVROZ J. KARKARIA Pittsburgh, PA came to USA from India in 1960, exactly a week before his 25th birthday. He got his MS in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University). He is grateful to Ms. Kloss for allowing him to come as close to Mr. Heifetz as is now possible, by participating in the Jascha Heifetz Symposium and meeting several people associated with Mr. Heifetz.

PAULO CURY Brasilia, Brazil began his studies on the violin at the age of 14. He is in the College in Brasilia, where he lives and studies violin with Patricia Mello.

She is a recent graduate of Chapman University studying with William Fitzpatrick, and continues further study with Paul Kantor at Rice University in the fall. Emily has been coming to the institute since she was 10.

KIMBERLEE DRAY Bentonville, AR happily holds her own as the “whatever” of vio-lin playing, studying with any and all of the patient few who don’t kick her out after the first five minutes. The exhaustive search for such persons has resulted in a lifelong relationship with the violin and grateful association with the sainted faculty of JHS.

“Criticism does not disturb me, for I am my own severest critic. Always in my playing I strive to surpass myself, and it is this constant struggle

that makes music fascinating to me.” — Jascha Heifetz
