JAWAHER ALKHAYYAL
Before starting the design process of a project, I tend to wander and relate everything I read or see around me, trying to capture a mood or a thought that would help me plan and design a space. Once I find amood for my design, I tend to sketch it in various situations, from dif- ferent points of view, before proceeding to explore the different ways in which my concepts could be designed and implemented. Through my sketches and photographs, most of my inspiration tends to be derived from history, travel and my natural surroundings and are thus reflected .in the final designs that I produce I am passionate about making temporary structures for people from all.walks of life, which will bring new interactive experiences to urban life In the future I am planning to explore various design fields and bring my.conceptual project designs to life

Seeking Refuge
Every year, thousands of African citizens immi- grate from their Low Economically Developed countries to More Economically Developed
countries, running away from poverty and polit-ical instability. Using dry point and screen-print-
ing, my artworks depict an African mother, carrying her baby on her back, seeking refuge.

Blooming Hydrangea
Inspired by the works of both Charles Clary and Magritte,my artwork combines both layered paper cutouts and sur- real nature. Using techniques inspired by Charles Clary’svibrant, layered paper sculptures, I have created a volumi-
nous sculpture out of smooth, thin and flat paper to create.an asymmetrical pattern within a symmetrical frame
Throughout the season, each hydrangea blooms at a certain pace, as one blossom grows larger or in a different shadethan the one next to it. Using various shades of purple pa-
per, thick tape and a mirror, I have cut and layered various silhouettes of a hydrangea plant, representing the different stages of its growth. The mirror in the background not only emphasizes the shapes that it reflects, but it also represents
the lifespan of the plant; even when flowers wilt, plants.continue to grow

Through Media and other forms of communication,
people all over the world have come to hold
.misperceptions and stereotypes about each other
