It’s that time of year to welcome new students on campus and we also have a large number of new employees right now. An overview of security practices might help them adjust. Access to campus Most students and employees are issued an access card to the building (and areas within the building) as needed. All employees and students have access to the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the

main entrance and the West Atrium entrance. These doors are also unlocked from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays for public access. The Courtyard door and the Bookstore entrance are also unlocked during these hours. Students also have access to the Student Center 24/7 through both the door from the visitor parking lot and the hallway door across from the Meadowlark Room. Access through the dock door and the water tower door is 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday (except state holidays). Employees working in the PMPH area have access to that area through the northwest door (Door Q) during these same hours. Employees can use their access card to enter through this door after 6 a.m. Monday through Friday (except state holidays) Your access card is your key to the campus. It is important that you do not lose your card or loan it out to anyone. Also, do not attach décor to your card as it may cause the card to malfunction. Photo ID cards All students and employees are required to wear their campus issued photo identification card when on campus. We are currently transitioning to a single use card (identification/access). Beginning July 1, security officers will begin taking photos and printing the ID cards. This will enable you to get your photo taken and have the card in your hand before you leave the office. If you need to have a photo taken or get a new card please call security at 293-2662. Parking on campus Students and employees must have a permit to park on campus during business hours. The south lot (by the Main Entrance and the Student Center) is reserved for visitors during business hours. You can obtain your parking permit from Facilities Management, located in room B050 in the basement of the main building, or get more information by calling 293-2625. Security on campus Always be aware of what is going on around you and take precautions to avoid being a victim of crime. Park in well-lit areas, lock your car, and keep valuables out of sight. Never leave personal property unattended. When on campus (especially at night and on weekends) do not let anyone you don’t know into the building. Enjoy your time at KUSM–W and help us keep you and the entire campus safe. If you need assistance from security, please call 293-2662. We’re here to help.
