That’s one of the many talents of i-MID, a 5-inch full-colour intelligent-Multi Information Display, and one of the cleverest features in the Civic Sedan. With a quick touch of the controls conveniently mounted on your steering wheel, the i-MID is ready to totally transform your drive.

It’ll inform you about fuel economy and outside temperature, share trip statistics including the tripmeter and odometer, and in the unlikely case a problem arises, i-MID will quickly alert you to warnings such as a door left ajar, or a low fuel level. Yep, the i-MID is one very smart little screen.

The only thing better than a clever car is one that’s fun to drive. Turns out that’s one more thing the Civic Sedan is an expert at.

In fact, the Civic was built for it. With its perfectly proportioned wheelbase and finely tuned suspension, you’ll be astonished at the level of agility and manoeuvrability Honda has made possible.

The other thing you can expect is to use a lot less fuel than you may be used to. You can put that down in part to the variable valve technology found within the powerful i-VTEC engine. And let’s face it: saving money on fuel is a lot of fun, too.

Body structure

Nimble and responsive, a combination of MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear will smooth over any noise or vibration from the road. Add this to the Civic’s cleverly engineered chassis setup and you have a vehicle that translates every move you make into pure driving joy.

Engine

So often choosing a car involves a trade-off between efficiency and power. But that’s not fun. Which is why Honda’s engineers have developed the rebelliously efficient i-VTEC engine.

The 1.8 litre engine within the Civic VTi, VTi-L and VTi-LN models delivers a handsome 104kW at 6500rpm and 174Nm of torque at 4300rpm, and yet wields an economy rating of 6.7 litres per 100km*. Meanwhile the impressive 2.0 litre engine inside the Civic Sport uses just 7.5 litres per 100km^ while transferring 114kW of power to the road with 190Nm of sheer pulling power.

Whichever of these superb engines drives your Civic Sedan, you’ll enjoy the benefits of i-VTEC variable valve technology – guaranteed to bring the power when you put your foot down, while intelligently adjusting the inlet valve timing to conserve fuel on those long, pleasant stretches of road.

Transmission

A clever car wouldn’t be complete without clever transmission, and the Grade Logic Control in the Civic Sedan makes it one of the most intelligent automatics on the market. Forget ‘gear hunting’. The Civic knows when it's on an incline and adjusts accordingly, making the shock of those jerky up-hill gear changes a problem of the past. The Civic Sport model comes with paddle shifters on the steering wheel to complement the automatic transmission, while the VTi is also available in 5-speed manual transmission.

Power Steering

A fun drive is one that rewards your actions with beautiful reactions. The Civic Sedan’s lightweight Motion Adaptive Electric Power Steering (MAEPS) does exactly that. The power assist is applied to match your exact speed. So while you’re circling the parking lot, power steering is in full supply. Yet while cruising down the highway, you’ll enjoy a more direct feel.

Eco Assist

The Civic Sedan doesn’t just drive more frugally – it coaches you to drive more frugally. With Eco Assist, you’ll learn to minimise your fuel usage and emissions. Who said that learning can’t be fun?

If every Honda engine is clever, what lies beneath the hood of the Civic Hybrid is surely twice as intelligent. On one hand, a 1.5 litre i-VTEC 4-cylinder petrol engine for low speed cruising. When emergency braking is detected, BA applies maximum braking pressure, activating the ABS system. ABS helps stop the wheels locking under heavy braking, allowing you to maintain steering control whilst EBD works to maintain optimum brake balance.

The clever Honda i-SRS driver airbag system inflates at different rates depending on crash severity, seat belt usage and a host of other factors to help keep you safe behind the wheel. Dual front, side and full-length curtain airbags are standard.
