Senior Decision Day - April 28th Seniors - join us in recognizing your plans for next year by participating in our Senior Decision Day on Friday, April 28th. Seniors are invited to wear their spirit wear for their intended college or university they have committed to attending in the fall, enlisted military branch etc. Counselors will be putting together a fun photo booth during all lunch shifts in the cafeteria for seniors to show off their spirit and plans for next year. Senior Survey Counselors will be visiting all senior government classes to collect information from our senior class for our annual senior survey. This survey will be administered May 23-24th and will focus on collecting information on our student's post-secondary plans, resources they used and found helpful and any scholarships they have received (merit, community, organization, athletic etc.). We are proud of our students and would like to know more about their plans for next year and what we can do in the future to further support our students during this transition process. • Several sharpened No. 2 pencils (with erasers) for completing multiple-choice answer sheets. • Pens with black or dark blue ink for completing areas on the exam booklet covers and for free-response questions in

most exams. • Up to two calculators with the necessary capabilities if you are taking an AP Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, or

Statistics Exam. (Visit http://www.collegeboard.com/ap/calculators to learn more about the calculator policy for each of these exams, and for a list of authorized calculators.)

You should not bring the following to the exam room:

• Electronic equipment: (cell phone, smart phone, tablet computer, etc.), portable listening or recording devices (MP3 player, iPod, etc.), cameras or other photographic equipment, devices that can access the Internet, and any other electronic or communication devices.

• Unapproved aids: Books, compasses, mechanical pencils, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, notes or colored pencils.

• Rulers, straightedges, and protractors. • Scratch paper; notes can be made on portions of the exam booklets. • Computers or calculators (except as noted above). • Reference guides, keyboard maps, or other typing instructions. • Watches that beep or have an alarm, or smartwatches. • Clothing with subject-related information. • Food (can be left in the back of the room for break) or drink (water only is allowed).

Please arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to your exam: 7:45am for the morning administration and 11:45am for the afternoon administration. You may leave class at 11:15am to have lunch prior to the exam. Students may not be dismissed until an exam has officially ended; do not ask to leave early if you finish before the end of the exam. If you play a sport or have a job, it is your responsibility to inform your coach or employer of your AP Exam obligation, and arrangements should be made accordingly. If you miss your scheduled exam, you will not be allowed to test late unless there is a true emergency and Mrs. Campbell is notified prior. Get a good night’s rest before your exam, and eat a nutritious breakfast. You are allowed to bring a snack and beverage for your 10-minute break. It is advisable to bring a sweater, in case the room temperature is below your comfort level.

LCPS 2017 High School Summer Credit Recovery Program The 2017 High School Summer Credit Recovery Program will offer course credit and verified credit opportunities for high school students to remediate deficiencies and expand academic skills. Instruction in core content areas at each grade level and subject area will reflect the LCPS curriculum and Virginia Standards of Learning. DATES/TIMES July 5 – August 3rd, 2017 All classes meet from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. inclusive of 30 minute lunch. Graduation: Friday, August 4, 2017 @ 10 a.m. Riverside High School PROGRAM The high school summer credit recovery program may be taken by students who have failed a class and/or who have failed the SOL assessment. Students must attend the full 22 day session in order to meet the requirements for instructional hours as determined by the Virginia Department of Education. Refunds will not be given for students who do not meet the attendance requirements. COURSES

English 9 World History/Geography I Algebra I Earth Science English 10 World History/Geography II Algebra II Biology English 11 US and VA History Geometry Chemistry English 12 US & VA Government Functions, Algebra Conceptual Physics & Data Analysis Environmental Science TRANSPORTATION Bus transportation will be provided from central pick-up points throughout the county. Students must attend the summer school site assigned for their base school. When you register for summer school online then you will be asked to select the pick-up point. Bus transportation for summer school is not the same as in the regular school year. The buses pick students up at the local schools, so you will need to know which school (either elementary, middle or high) is closest to your home. Fees

Regular Reduced Free $475.00 $65.00 $50.00

Reduced fees area available based on the free and reduced lunch scale or for students whose families are undergoing economic hardship. This may include, but is not limited to, families receiving employment benefits, public assistance, foster families caring for children in foster care, or families that are homeless. The on-line registration system will automatically calculate the fee due for those families on the free or reduced lunch scale. All students then approved to pay a reduced rate by their home school must submit payment with cash or by check made payable to their home school. Payment by credit card is not an option under these circumstances. ATTENDANCE Attending every day and working conscientiously to learn the instructional objectives is essential to success. Summer School Attendance and tardiness will be monitored using a point system. Students will be assigned points for days of absence and tardiness. Absences due to suspension will count towards a student’s attendance/tardy points. Please refer to the table below for and point totals.

Students will be assigned SIX POINTS for each day he or she is absent. · Tardiness to school will be monitored with the points system. · Students arriving to school between 9:00 and 9:10 will be assigned ONE POINT. · Students arriving to school between 9:11 and 10:00 will be assigned TWO POINTS. · Students arriving to school between 10:01 and 11:00 will be assigned THREE POINTS.

· Students arriving to school after 11:01 will be assigned SIX POINTS. · Students who fail to attend detention will be assigned THREE POINTS. · Early dismissals will be granted only in unusual circumstances. A note or phone call from a parent/guardian is

required and must be approved by the summer school administrative staff 24 hours in advance. Time missed will count toward the attendance/tardy limits.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT Registration will open on May 15th, 2017 at noon. Complete the on-line registration process and at the end, print out the receipt page. It must be signed by the parent/guardian and taken to the school counseling office by noon on June 22, 2017 to complete the registration. If you do not select the option to pay on-line by credit card, the school counseling staff will determine whether the course selection is appropriate and accept payment. Checks should be made payable to the home high school. Payment for the high school summer credit recovery program is due by noon on June 22, 2017. If you have no computer/internet access, please contact your school counselor to obtain a paper registration form. Forms will be available on May 15h. Online registration is available for current LCPS students only. Please call 571-252-1160 for further information.

Summer school registration is not complete until school counseling has approved the course selection and verified payment by the registration deadline of noon on June 22, 2017.

No refunds will be made after June 26, 2017, except for cancelled classes.

Reminder Registration closes at noon on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

LCPS 2017 High School Summer School with Virtual Loudoun

Virtual Loudoun Summer School registration is now available. The term will run June 5 - August 11. Please see the below links if you are interested in more information. Virtual Loudoun courses are offered at the rate of $695 for a 1 credit course. These are new credit courses NOT repeat credit. Students who need to repeat a course that they fail, will need to explore LCPS Summer School. Information about LCPS Summer School is not yet available. Virtual Loudoun registration for the Fall is also now available. The term will run September 5 - December 23. Virtual Loudoun limites the number of spots each high school has for the Fall and Spring sessions. AOS, AET, MTC, and seniors needing a course to graduate have priority registration! If you fall in these categories and plan to take a Fall virtual course, please register by May 1, after that we will begin to approve other students who wish to take Fall virtual courses. Reminders:

SCHOOL YEAR: Students are permitted to take one course per academic school year for acceleration (an “8th” credit ONLY)

SUMMER TERM: Students enrolling for acceleration purposes are permitted to earn a total of two (2) high school credits via Virtual Loudoun summer program in their middle and high school years. Summer Term acceleration restrictions apply to students entering 8th grade in the 2016- 2017 school year and beyond.

My name is Mark Gilles and I’m the Outreach Coordinator for the federal Job Corps program in Virginia. Job Corps is a tuition-free, career training program developed and administered by the U.S. Department of Labor to meet educational and career technical training needs of economically disadvantaged young people between the ages of 16 and 24. Students live on campus and receive training in a career path of their choice, including health occupations, computer technology, automotive, carpentry, welding, electrical and plumbing. They can also earn a high school diploma or GED certificate. Job Corps has been the first step toward careers in high-demand industries for thousands of young people in Virginia, and it could be a starting point for many of your students, as well!
