in Barrington and Deer Park, IL. The scope of this project for the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) involved an intersection design study; alternatives analyses, including roundabouts and traditional signalized intersections; traffic and crash analyses; preliminary plans with proposed horizontal and vertical alignments; field surveys, geotechnical analyses, and environmental studies; hydrologic/hydraulic analyses and the identification of detention requirements; utility coordination; and a determination of proposed ROW and/or easement issues. Mr. Peralte was responsible for establishing management controls for project implementation, and for overseeing coordination with LCDOT, the Lake County Storm Water Management Commission, the Lake County Forest Preserve District, permitting agencies, and the local community to develop a design that improves roadway safety and capacity while minimizing impacts to surrounding properties. (6/15 – 2/17) Illinois Tollway Jane Addams Memorial Tollway Roadway and Bridge Rehabilitation CM - Project Director Provided executive oversight for the roadway and bridge rehabilitation of a 28-mile portion of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, and Kane counties, IL, for Illinois Tollway. The scope of work included pavement patching, hot-mix asphalt surface removal and overlay on shoulders and ramps, stone-matrix asphalt overlay on main line pavement, microsurfacing on shoulders and crossovers, deck slab repairs, bridge substructure repairs with crash wall upgrades, guardrail replacements, and pavement markings. The firm provided construction inspection and materials testing, layout review, preparation of records, documentation, schedule reviews, and pay estimate submittals as well as project closeout oversight. (12/13 – 2/17) CDOT Phase II Reconstruction of West Grand Avenue from Chicago Avenue to Damon Avenue - Principal-in-Charge Provided executive leadership for the design of the $12 million roadway improvement project to a section of West Grand Avenue between West Chicago and North Damon avenues in Chicago for the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT). West Grand Avenue runs through the heart of a former industrial center in a trendy part of Chicago, but the neighborhood’s investment potential is somewhat limited by outdated infrastructure and rough appearance. In cooperation with CDOT, the firm has conducted standard site investigations, which has involved a full topographic survey of the project limits and features, a vaulted sidewalk survey, a geotechnical investigation with pavement cores and deep soil borings, wildlife observations, a street signage inventory, and videotaping of sewer mains. As the design evolves, the firm is focusing on several key issues, such as widespread pavement ponding. Mr. Peralte’s team is redesigning the roadway, curbs, and sidewalks with a higher pitch so that it drains properly. The project also included investigating whether relocating and adding additional drainage structures, replacing outdated brick drainage, or installing green technologies like pervious surfacing will help water disperse and recharge. In addition, the project included the design of new traffic signals and a construction phasing plan. (8/13 – 2/17) IDOT IL-31 from IL-176 to IL-120 Phase I - Principal-in-Charge Provided executive oversight for design services for the 7-mile, $70 million reconstruction and widening of IL-31 from IL-176 to IL-120 in McHenry County, IL. For the first phase of the study, from IL-176 to Bull Valley Road, Mr. Peralte’s team created the overall roadway designs for a 4-lane cross-section, developed the Environmental Class of Action Determination, and completed a drainage study and separate hydraulic report for a large concrete box culvert. The team is continuing the Phase I study in advance of an anticipated extension of the IL-31 reconstruction to IL-120. The team’s public involvement activities followed the principles of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)’s Context Sensitive Solutions Policy, and include the preparation of detailed project exhibits; analysis of crash, environmental, and traffic data; preparation of a stakeholder involvement plan; an audio-visual presentation, including the preparation of a recorded narrative for each slide; and a project website. Mr. Peralte supervised the civil engineering staff, and he was responsible for the design and reconstruction, as well as all administrative duties. (8/06 – 2/17) Village of Palatine Plum Grove Hills Drainage Study - Principal-in-Charge Oversaw a project to increase the capacity of the drainage system at Plum Grove Hills, a subdivision in Palatine, IL, that has sustained significant flooding and home damage. Under a previous study, the team developed models to analyze storm sewer systems and recommended alternatives to alleviate flooding within a 171-acre watershed. The team then developed a series of alternatives with cost estimates for alleviating flooding that it presented to the Village and officials from the Cook County Highway Department. (8/12 - 12/13) DuDOT Gary Avenue at Travis Parkway HSIP Phase II - Principal-in-Charge Oversaw the design of improvements to Gary Avenue at Travis Parkway in Roselle, IL, for the DuPage County Division of Transportation (DuDOT). Mr. Peralte supervised data collection, survey alignment and intersection design studies, accident analyses, drainage studies, and ROW costs for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) project. He also oversaw all public involvement efforts, which involved close collaboration with the local municipalities to better understand the project area and needs. Mr. Peralte communicated regularly with the municipalities to discuss potential areas of concern — including drainage issues, heavily congested intersections, and areas of high accident rates — to develop design plans that best reflect the needs of the public. He also led the efforts to hold a public meeting and hearing in which the firm presented the project plans to the local community in the form of exhibits and held an open dialogue to elicit comments from local residents. Once comments or potential concerns were obtained from the public, Mr. Peralte and his team collaborated with the municipalities to modify design plans to reflect the needs of the community. The 4-lane section of IL-21 was widened to a 5-lane section consisting of an inside 12-foot-wide thru-lane, an outside 14-foot-wide thru-lane, and concrete curb and gutters in each direction separated by a variable-width median and a 2-way left-turn lane. The scope of work also included replacing the IL 21 structure over the Des Plaines River. The new bridge is a 3-span continuous rolled beam superstructure with four legs, sidewalks, a median, and a 7.5-inch-thick deck. The firm provided lighting and traffic signal modernization, complete drainage system design, floodwall construction, and fill-in-floodplain permitting for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
