Rationale

To provide specific care activities to babies requiring special care.

To enable highly skilled Neonatal Trained staff to concentrate on caring for highly complex sick neonates .

Reviewing Skills For Health core competences and other levels, along with Scottish Neonatal Nurses Group (SNNG) core syllabus for clinical competences we matched knowledge and skills and developed:

POSITIVES – Skills for Health assisted us in identifying an area where a new role could be created that promoted patient focus, flexible working and it was within our existing budget and adhering to national and local guidelines

The role is focused on care of the Special Care baby and family.
