With studying and surveying three of the historic squares of Savannah, GAone can view and learn in how the small scale square parks that are no more than half a city block work, and operate more effectively than todays modernparks. If you look at the average american park you would find a huge landscape of 10 acres of earth, sometime more that only hold a couple of tress and a playground set. All these average parks are not accesible by foot, only by car. Everything in todays modern American world consists of us human being to Everything in todays modern American world consists of us human being to depend on our cars. We go to work in our car, we go home in our cars, we go eat out in our cars. Everywhere we go we no longer walk, we simply drive andwaste gas that we just bought. With understanding the Concepts of the
Savannah Squares we believe that parks do not need to be any larger than 4 acres. The Square define space by having plant hedges as gaurd rails, large oak trees to provide cooling shade from the hot sun, civic art monuments, and benches to rest on and marvel upon. Some squares have open grass spacein which children from the neighborhood come to play, and adults comeout to socialize. Each and every Park feels safe and secure with the fronts of commerical buildings and residential houses look inwards towards the park.commerical buildings and residential houses look inwards towards the park. The Fact is cities need more of these types of squares that work just as effectivly than the modern day park. I Believe by having more of these squaresa city would stand more in it true beauty and be used more creativly.
