JUMP ROPE FOR HEART is Friday 2:50-3:30! We will be in the gym if you would like to

join us!

Earth materials: sand, rock, dirtWe practiced our revisions for this unit. That means we look at our stories again and find ways to make it better. We noticed that we had forgotten words, pictures, details

There were no math rotations this week. The kids filled their data books with important information. Subtraction is still pretty tricky. We also spent some time measuring using cubes, paper clips, or popsicle sticks.

Our reading super groups started with word work. We made words with ‘e’ and ‘a’ vowels. They changed the beginning or ending sound. We re-read Mix It Up and Farm Babies. We also added I Like Dogs.

During Literacy centers, kids are using read to self time to practice their decoding skills (find passwords, use the picture, sound out words). Read to partner gives the children a chance to peer tutor. They read the same book at the same time, each holding one side of the book. Listening centers are so fun! Our cd player has silly songs, the computers are for raz-kids, and our IPods are full of stories. The favorite center is always word work. This includes building words, stamping passwords into play doh, sorting syllables, playing ‘BOOM’, figuring out how to get through the ABC game, and changing beginning sounds. I have used my group time this week to focus on assessment.

As I type this, I am listening to the greatest sound ever! Kids teaching their parents, (and some grandparents), about Kindergarten. Your kids have worked so hard this year. I am ecstatic that you were able to be here! Thanks so much for coming.
