The Crow Residence was a project I worked on for two years while I was in Washington DC assisting Richard Giegengack, AIA. I designed and drafted all interior elevations with the help of Richard and Stan Andrulis. The decoration was done by another firm in Dallas. Richard took the existing Georgian house and added the two wings which flank the center mass. Richard designed all exterior elevations and plans. I had a hand in all interior architecture. Floor patterns, ceiling patterns, millwork, trim and panel designs were drafted in addition to the elevations. This was such a great “first” project to have under my belt right out of college. In the foyer picture (above left) note the beautiful view from the lower level looking up into the oculus on the third level (next page). It is even more stunning in person! The Library was made to rival the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC. The coffered ceiling was modeled after the Library of Congress. This space is quite impressive and is a favorite spot for entertaining with the catering kitchen secretly hidden in the paneling behind the stage on the lower level. The library holds an impressive collection of Harlan’s books for which he hires a permanent librarian to organize and consult him on future purchases. The Great room is the private retreat for the family to relax in the adjoining sunroom, join the children in the playroom or shoot some pool next to the impressive fireplace. The home was published last October 2005 in Architectural Digest. This was my first time being published.

SEA ISLAND RESIDENCESEA ISLAND RESIDENCEI began working with Billy Roberts in the summer of 2004.

His company Three, Inc. specializes in Architecture, Interiors, and Landscape. Our largest project has been the Sea Island

residence which we have collaborated on with Harrison Design. I

assisted Billy with designing all the millwork, tile layouts, floor

patterns, fireplace elevations, lighting layouts, and custom bed

designs. We all had a hand in the fabric selections, furniture, art, and

lighting.

My favorite design is shown here in the foyer. Billy wanted a nautilus shell in the foyer tile design. I suggested the shape

of the segments of the nautilus to mimic the tread of the circular

stairs. That way when viewing the lower level of the foyer from

above the stairs appears as if it continues into infinity with the

nautilus tile. I based my drawing on the golden rectangle and scaled

each stair tread according to the mathematical proportions of this historical formula that we all have learned in geometry.

Nature when studied closely is perfection.
