Jennifer’s Body trailer analysis

Firstly, in the trailer they show the institutional logo. As 20th century fox is a large company audiences will assume it is going to be a good film as it is their expectations of the institution.

This establishing shot is used to show audiences the lake and the forest, this could suggest where the scene takes places. Also the reflection of the forest in the lake suggests darkness taking over, therefore giving the audience a suggestion of the genre.

By using a medium this shows us the main character of the film, using use of star to bring in Megan Fox’s fan base.By her being in the lake it suggests she is part of the danger throughout the film.

This inter-title shows the audience that it will be based on teens in a school, also they have made it so it connotes the genre by fading in and out creating mystery for the audience.

This long shot shows us the main character, as the other people surrounding her are in dark clothing or blurred, she stands out as she is wearing pink and red, by the way she is ‘playing’ with her hair it connotes seduction, therefore we can get a view of the story line.

This close up again shows the audience the main character using the use of star to attract the audience, she has a direct mode of address towards the audience making them feel they are involved.

Both of these inter-titles link to the previous one, each one telling part of the story line, gradually introducing the audience to the plot of the film. The black background connoting the danger that will happen in the film, the white writing fades into the background and also turns to a dull white, this being a binary opposition (Levi Strauss) this creating an enigma for the audience as how the plot may be constructed through good and evil .

This over the shoulder shot shows the audience the point of view of the main character, the way she is dressed (mise en scene – costume) connotes her innocence, showing the audience who the good character is, by the smile it suggests to the audience that they have a happy friendship.

The two inter-titles continue to tell the plot of the film. This gives the audience a slight view of what to expect if they watch the film. The inter-titles reinforce what is happening throughout the trailer

This shows us that the main character is seducing innocent guys, the over the shoulder shot shows us the point of view of what the boys see, this also suggests that the boy is in trouble, as we know from previous scenes that she is the route of the danger happening in the film

The red background connotes danger, showing the audience that something dangerous is happening, the shadow reinforces the darkness of the girls character.

This shows the exact release date for the film, giving the audience key information so they know when they can see the film.

The red and black in the background connote the danger, as she is burning her tongue this creates enigmas for the audience, as they will wonder why she is doing this.

The inter-title reinforces the importance of use of star, as they are relying on audience awareness of Megan Fox so this targets her fan base and catches the audiences eye.

This suggests that this boy is another victim of the danger going on. The darkness once again reinforces the danger in the film. The facial expression of the boy shows us that he is in pain/getting attacked.

The costume and make up used in this screen shot shows the audience that she has been defending herself against the main character who created the danger throughout the film, as previous scenes have shown.
