URCOOPA GROUP from France visits our Uppal Plant

A group of 16 members from France visited our plant on 28th Sep-

tember, 2013 to gain more ideas, knowledge about Indian Dairy

Industry and its developed products. These captioned visitors are

belonging to a cooperative organization called URCOOPPAURCOOPPAURCOOPPAURCOOPPA, FranceFranceFranceFrance

and they are all Dairy Farmers. They also met the members of In-

dian Dairy Association - Andhra Pradesh Chapter, selected dairy

farmers from A.P and senior officials from Animal Husbandry De-

partment, Hyderabad on September 30, 2013.

Mr. Madhukar Reddy, Sr. GM-Hyderabad has received the delegates

and shown them the plant, explained process and operations.

Dear Colleagues,

We are midway through in this financial year. While we see growth in marketing picking up, we

are way behind in procurement. Although it is true that procurement is less than last year in

most parts of the country, we cannot, however, be complacent. We need to be more focused

and go on for strategic interventions which are area specific. The procurement team should go

all out and complete the planned expansion activities and attain the budgeted levels of pro-

curement.

Our retail sales in milk products have seen a commendable growth in the first six months as

compared to the same period last year. It now occupies a significant percentage of the turn-

over and we should endeavour to see that this segment grows. This would enable us to reduce dependence on bulk products

which are prone to price fluctuations. Overall, we should aim and achieve the budgeted levels in all fronts. The backlogs should

be made up in the next five months.

The first round of L&D workshop is completed. A total number of 865 participants attended the program. I am happy to note

that the program has been found useful based on the feedback received. Learning’s from these programs should be internal-

ized through practice at the work front, so that the employee and the organization are benefited. We are committed to continu-

ously addressing the developmental needs of the employees. At the end of it all…it is the Human Resources which forms the

backbone of our organization.

Wishing you and family a Safe & Happy Diwali!

From The Desk Of The CEO

and left happily. The tree was glad to see him happy but the man never

came back since then. The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot summer day, the man returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said. “I am getting old. I

want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” said the man. “Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far

away and be happy.” So the man cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time.

Finally, the man returned after many years. “Sorry, my boy. But I do not have anything for you anymore. No more apples for

you”, the tree said. “No problem, I do not have any teeth to bite” the man replied.“No more trunk for you to climb on.” “I am too

old for that now” the man said. “I really cannot give you anything, the only thing left is my dying roots,” the tree said with tears.

“I do not need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years,”

the man replied. “Good!

Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest, come sit down with me

and rest.” The man sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears.

This is a story of everyone. The tree is like our parents. When we were young,

we loved to play with our Mum and Dad. When we grow up, we leave them;

only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No

matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could just

to make you happy.

You may think the boy is cruel to the tree, but that is how all of us treat our

parents. We take them for granted; we don’t appreciate all they do for us,

until it’s too late.

Moral: Treat your parents with loving care…. For you will know their value,

when you see their empty chair…We never know the love of our parents for

us; till we have become parents.

Story of an Apple Tree ....S.Giri Babu, GM-Procurement

A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. A little boy loved to come

and play around it everyday. He climbed to the tree top, ate the apples,

and took a nap under the shadow. He loved the tree and the tree loved to

play with him. Time went by, the little boy had grown up and he no longer

played around the tree every day.

One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad. “Come and

play with me”, the tree asked the boy. “I am no longer a kid, I do not play

around trees any more” the boy replied. “I want toys. I need money to buy

them.”

“Sorry, but I do not have money, but you can pick all my apples and sell

them. So, you will have money.” The boy was so excited. He grabbed all

the apples on the tree and left happily. The boy never came back after he

picked the apples. The tree was sad.

One day, the boy who now turned into a man returned and the tree was

excited. “Come and play with me” the tree said. “I do not have time to

play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you

help me?” “Sorry, but I do not have any house. But you can chop off my

branches to build your house.” So the man cut all the branches of the tree

The dairy cow performs an important job in our food production industry. That job is

changing grass and grain, which people can’t eat, into milk – a nearly perfect food.

A dairy cow eats 14 kgs of grain per day and a minimum of 10 kgs of alfalfa hay per day.

A cow drinks approximately 4 litres of water for each litre of milk she produces. A good

dairy cow will produce approximately 23 litres of milk each day. That would mean a cow

would drink 120 to 150 litres of clean, fresh water daily.

A cow usually produces milk about 10 months (305 days), which would calculate into

over 7000 litres of milk per year.

Contrary to popular belief, cows do not have 4 stomachs; they have 4 digestive compart-

ments in one stomach - The rumen holds up to 50 gallons of partially digested food. This

is where cud comes from. Good bacteria in the rumen helps digest the cow's food and

provides protein for the cow. The reticulum is called the hardware stomach because if

cows accidentally eat hardware (like a piece of fencing scrap), it will often lodge here

causing no further damage. The omasum is sort of like a filter. The abomasum is like our

stomach.

Even though the average dairy cow weighs about 590 kg (1300 lbs), you may think it

looks skinny because its bones stick out. But it's not underfed - a cow eats tonnes of food

each year. It's true!

Dairy foods are nutrient-rich with 9 essential nutrients including Calcium, potassium,

phosphorous, vitamins A,D and B12, riboflavin and niacin.

According to a survey by Tetra Pak, Indian mothers are unaware that pro-

longed and repeated boiling of milk depletes nutrition that is vital for chil-

dren.

Around 59 percent of mothers felt boiling (milk) increases its nutritional

value and 24 percent felt that it does not impact its nutritional properties. It

is a fact that in most Indian households, milk is boiled more than thrice,

skimmed and hence devoid of most of the essential vitamins, proteins,

amino acids and minerals.

Vitamins and proteins are denatured and destroyed when milk is boiled at

temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius for over 15 minutes. Milk is a

vital source for Vitamin D and Vitamin B 12, which help in calcium absorp-

tion. Both these vitamins are highly heat sensitive and boiling milk destroys

both substantially.

Any loss of vital ingredients in milk, especially proteins and vitamins, could

cause growth deficiency, weak bones, poor muscle development and neu-

rological impact, among other long-term effects. Mothers need to be sensi-

tized regarding improper boiling practices as it depletes milk of nutrients.

At the same time, they should be aware about technologies that best pro-

tect milk. -- by K.E.Rajesh Kumar, PA to MD

simple, easy to accomplish segments. While the entire goal may seem overwhelming, by breaking it down into smaller

pieces, it will not seem so daunting.

Set Deadlines: Set Deadlines: Set Deadlines: Set Deadlines: A dream is a goal with a deadline. Without a deadline you won't achieve most of your goals. Why? Because

there are so many things in life that will take over your time, and before you know it, a year will have gone by and you will be

no closer to your goal than you were before.

Reward Yourself: Reward Yourself: Reward Yourself: Reward Yourself: As you accomplish each step of your goal, reward yourself with something fun. A dinner out, or a new CD, or

just a relaxing evening. Always associate rewards with accomplishing steps to your goals and goal achieving will become a

fun experience that you look forward to. It will become a way of life.

Don’t GiveDon’t GiveDon’t GiveDon’t Give----up: up: up: up: Winston Churchill is credited with the shortest speech on record. It was presented to a college graduating

class. He approached the podium, looked out over the audience and said slowly . . . 'Never, never, never, give up.'

9 Steps to Achieving Your Goals -by A.Nanda Kumar, Dy.Mng-Marketing

There was a case in a Johannesburg Hospital's ICU, where patients always died in the

same bed, every Sunday morning at 11 AM regardless of their medical condition. This

puzzled the doctors and some even thought that particular bed was the work of the

Devil..... As to why the deaths at 11 AM on Sunday mornings? A world-wide team of ex-

perts were constituted & they decided to go to the ward to investigate the cause of the

Incidents.

So on the next Sunday morning, a few minutes before 11AM, all doctors and nurses

nervously waited outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon

was all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books and other holy objects

to Ward off any evil spirits. Just then the clock struck 11 and............Part-time cleaner walked in... unplugged life Support ma-

chine and plugged in the vacuum cleaner to complete her work. After completion of her work she removed the vacuum cleaner

plug and re fixed the life support machine plug and left the ICU room.......It helps to train people whether they are permanent, It helps to train people whether they are permanent, It helps to train people whether they are permanent, It helps to train people whether they are permanent,

A young boy went to his father and told him about his life and how things were so hard for him. He did not know how he was

going to make it and wanted to give up. He was tired of fighting

and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one

arose.

His father took him to the kitchen. He filled three pots with wa-

ter; in the first he placed carrots, in the second he placed eggs,

and in the last he put some coffee beans. He let them boil, with-

out saying a word.

In about twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took out

the carrots and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out

and placed them in a bowl. Then he took the coffee out and

placed it in a bowl.

Father brought the son and asked him to feel the carrots. He did

and noted that they were soft. The Father then asked him to

take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, he observed

the hard-boiled egg. Finally, the father asked him to sip the cof-

fee. The son tasted it and asked, "What does it mean?"

Father explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently.

The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became

weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its in-

side became hardened.

The coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" Father asked him. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a

coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I?

Am I The carrot that seemed strong, but with pain and adversity it became soft and lost its strength?

Am I The egg that starts with a soft heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a

financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I

bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee beans? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the

water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and

change the situation around you.

How do you handle adversity? When the hour is the darkest and trials are greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level?

Are you a carrot, an egg or coffee bean?

Are you a carrot, an egg or coffee bean?

A farmer in the northern Indian state of Haryana says he has sold a buffalo for what

is believed to be record-breaking 2.5 million rupees ($41,000). Kapoor Singh told

the BBC he sold his Murrah buffalo named Lakshmi to a farmer from Andhra

Pradesh state. The Murrah breed of water buffalo is much in demand for its high

milk yield and normally costs between 100,000 rupees and 250,000 rupees. They

are highly coveted and their owners take a lot of pride in them. For the price that

Lakshmi was sold for it would be possible to buy a small luxury car.

Mr Singh, who lives in Singhwa Khas village in Hisar district, said he bought Lakshmi for 250,000 rupees ($4,100; £2,650)

two years ago. He said because she was a "special" buffalo - who yielded up to 28 litres of milk every day and won several

prizes for producing record amounts - he was able to sell her for 10 times the price he bought her. "I didn't want to sell her, but

the new owner offered me the price I asked for. He had come last year and offered me 190,000 rupees, but I refused. He liked

the buffalo so much that he made a video film on her and showed it in his village," Mr Singh said. "I am very happy that I got

the price I wanted. I will use the money for my daughter's marriage."

Buffalo sold for ‘record breaking’ Rs.25,00,000 ($41000)

It was a normal day in Sharon Springs, Kansas when a union pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train for the long trek back to

Salina. Just a few kilometers into the trip, a wheel bearing became over heated and melted off letting the truck supports drop

down and grind on top of the rail, creating white hot molten metal droppings that spewed down on to the rails.

The good news to this is that a very alert crew noticed a small amount of smoke halfway back in the train and immediately

stopped the train in compliance with the rules of SOP (Standard Operating Procedure).

The bad news to this is that the train just happened to stop with its hot wheels on top of a wooden trestle bridge built with

creosoted ties, bents and trusses.

Moral of the Story : Moral of the Story : Moral of the Story : Moral of the Story :

• It is hard to identify every hazard

• Some risks may be deemed acceptable

• SOP’s will never include every contingency

• Keep SOP’s flexible so that the Human Factor (Common Sense) may al-

ways be incorporated in a work instruction
