What is Sprawl?

• In communities across the nation, there is a growing concern that current development patterns are dominated by what is called sprawl. are no longer in the long-term interest of our cities, existing suburbs, small towns, rural communities, or wilderness areas. Though supportive of growth, communities are questioning the economic costs of abandoning infrastructure in the city, which is to rebuild it further out. Spurring the smart growth movements are demographic shifts,a strong environmental ethic, increased fiscal concerns, and more nuanced views of growth. The result of sprawl is both a new demand and a new opportunity for smart growth.

and city area• Walk able Neigh-borhood- meaning being

able to go places without cars in the community

• Community Development- Developing the community according to the people

• Having attraction- being able to have attractions in a sensible place for tourists can come

• Pricing- Making it affordable to visit and live• Using land to get around- being able to walk

from place with our using major pollution cars and train .

• Landmarks- keeping them in good shape and still part of the cities traditation

• Transportation- Buses train cars taxi’s• Old Area- Making our old area modern.• Compact building – making space for other

thing by making building vertical.

• First and foremost on our top five would be creating housing for people. We belief placing house in proper areas would help how people get to work, also the economy in the sense of placing farming family houses right next to the cities would be bad idea on account of no area for growing space.

              

Ways of TransportationWays of Transportation

• Communities are increasing

• They particularly need a wider range of transportation systems.

               

Developing Old NeighborhoodDeveloping Old Neighborhood

• Portions of the revenue we make should be sent back to the com-munity

• Rebuilding the original area that use to be center of town.

• This would help on how the area looks and perhaps bring more people to move to the area.

Make Living Affordable

• This is just as important as there actual being affordable

• If it’s to expensive then you wont be able to live there on account of your economic status.

Are the mix land use better than single land use?

• Mix land better because of closer services,better use of space, its convenient for workers,families, and visitors.

Preserve open space

• The reason why you preserve open space is for animal and plant habitat protection, for the trees to give them room to give out oxygen, and and more recreational space

Transportation

• The ones that are considered smart growth are buses, walking, cars, trains

Compact living

• The advantages of compact living is wider transportation options, more efficient use of land and resources, and access to greater services.

How does Principals apply to Forest Hill

Forest Hills• The area we chose to do

for our presentation is Forest Hill. One of the major location in here is Branch Brook Park and the Baseball Field. The Boundaries For Forest Hill is Bloomfield Avenue which is South. Mt. Prospect, Summer and Arlington is East of Forest Hill and the City Rail Line tracks is west of Forest Hill.

Analysis Of Forest Hill

• Mostly Single Family Housing.• Near By Train Station For Transportation.• Some Multi Family Housing and High

Rise Housing.• Huge Park For Recreation.• Very Little Retail.• A Good Amount of Churches.• Plenty Of Vacant Lots.

Smart Growth Proposal For Forest Hill

The Black Lines represent bike routes threw the park which would allow people to get across the park to the Trains.

Bike racks so people could put there bikes while they go to work. Black Box Represent

a place were we could put Restaurants or schools perhaps parking garage

Conclusion

• With more bikes in this area then with less cars there would generate less pollution.

• With routes in the park more people would be able to ride there bikes.

• Developing retail stores or restaurants in the vacant lots could bring more business to this small community.
