To Whom It May Concern I am a graduate architect seeking work in New York City. In 2011, I completed my Masters of Architecture with High Distinction at the Univer-sity of Western Australia. I graduated with the highest overall mark and the highest thesis mark in my class. After completing university, I began work at Hassell Studios in Perth, Western Austra-lia; where I worked until September of this year. I have recently moved to New York with the in-tention of expanding my knowledge and further developing my career in architecture. During my two years with Hassell, I was employed as both a graduate architect and 3d Visualizer. This unique opportunity gave me exposure to a large number of projects and involvement in all stages of the design and build process. While I was a student I worked for several practic-es including Brad Ladyman Architects, Laurence Scanlan & Associates and Troppo Architects. In my final year of study I ran the Digital Design classes at UWA for first and second year archi-tecture students. Working for multiple practices has given me in-sight into the logistics of different offices and the importance of effective collaboration throughout any architectural project. I operate well in a collective work environment and am interested in working for a design practice that celebrates creativity, quality and innovation in its approach to architecture. Venice City Museum received the top thesis mark for 2011 at the University of Western Australia. The project proposed that, as a self-sustaining act, Venice should develop itself as a contemporary living museum. Through the use of parametrics, as an urban scale tool, the proposal looked at how a historic city could continue to develop as a mod-ern metropolis whilst maintaining its authenticity.

The Raffles Hospital project was developed whilst at Hassell Studios. The scheme is an addition-al wing to the, already existing, Raffles Hospi-tal in Singapore. The design aims to maximise public space and create vertical plazas between the new and old wings. In the design we looked at circulation to inform the buildings shape and encourage interaction between functions.

In 2010 I went on student exchange to the Uni-versity of Arizona. I studied under Pavel Getov of Morphosis. Our studio project was a mixed-use tower proposal for 80 South St in New York. Pav-el had us flown to New York for a week, then held a competition within the studio. My project was given first place and was subsuquently developed throughout the rest of the semester by the class. My scheme looked at the idea of the ‘Vertical City’ with research into ‘Manhattanism’ and how the two may continue to develop one another.

NHS was a short listed competition entry to the new Oral Health building for the NHS University in Singapore. The design cuts the building into two towers with a connecting ‘open’ atrium set above a podium base. The two towers incorporate pas-sive mode sustainable features through their ori-entation, with floor plates optimised for daylight penetration and natural ventilation. This is further enhanced by the stepping form in section and re-ducing plan width. Simple horizontal shading re-duces heat gain to north and south facing façades.Occupying a highly visible corner of the cam-pus the buildings striking scale and form of-fers a strong visual identity to this facility.

In October 2013 I was contracted by Officer Woods Architects to help with a submission for the Kings Square Development competition based in Fremantle, Western Australia. The brief was to create a new library and council cham-bers that would enliven the struggling square and surrounding businesses. We took a playful approach, using the historiography of Fremantle to inform the buildings shape. One of the pro-jects main moves was to draw the square, itself, up through all levels of the precinct and treat the chambers as an extension of the public realm.

In my third year of university we were asked to de-sign a small prototype house for a new develop-ment in Australia’s South West. My project looked at using prefabricated utility units that could act as structure for the majority of the building. Remov-ing a large part of the on-site building costs while allowing for unique development on each site.

While working at Brad Ladyman Architects, we were asked to create a house on a minimal time and money budget. The building’s design relies on visual corridors that intersect both vertically and horizontally connecting the front to the back, the bottom to the top and the inside to the out. The use of boxes creates function through form. The shifting and floating geometry encourages interest throughout the project, allowing each space to adopt a unique feel and experience.

3d Visualization

One of my main roles whilst working for Has-sell was 3D visualization. I worked on projects of varying scale, from schools to urban master-plans. Through 3D visualization I was largely involved in the early stages of design, especially with masterplans, where multiple buildings had to be conceptualised within a short time frame.
