Spreading God’s WordVBS at New Life set for next week Vacation Bible School at New Life Baptist Church is set from July 22 through 27. Crystal River set for Tilly Swamp 5th Sun. Sing Tilly Swamp Baptist Church hosts its Fifth Sunday Sing at 5:30 p.m. on July 29 featuring bluegrass gospel band, Crystal River. A local group, Crystal River includes Dorothy Lewis, Wayne Lewis, JayBird Harris, Weston Dix and Blake Martin. Nealey-Hinson tribute sing is July 28 in T.C.

A tribute singing in memory of the late Terry L. Nealey II and the late Kenny Hinson of the Original Hinsons will be held on Saturday, July 28, at South-eastern Church of God in Tabor City. Scheduled for 6:30 p.m., the singing will feature The Nealeys, Weston & Christy Hinson (son of the late Kenny Hinson), Robert & Jenny Nealey, Teddy Bullard, Matthew & Samantha Nealey, and others. Sponsors include Southeastern Church of God, Pastor Brian Wibble, Holiness Tabernacle Church, and area merchants. All are invited for this evening of worship and praise.

Jessica Blackwell, RN is the 2012 Bettie Ann Lamb Singletary Memorial Award winner, recognized during a recent Colum-bus Regional Healthcare System employee service awards banquet. A native of Columbus County and graduate of West Columbus High School, Blackwell is a 2000 graduate of Southeast-ern Community College. She has been employed on the medical/surgical floor at CRHS since that time. Established by the John B. Singletary family in 2011 in memory of their wife and mother, Bettie Singletary, this an-nual award recognizes employees who go “above and beyond” the routine to improve patient safety. Bettie Singletary, who died in 2010, had many connections with CRHS including the fact that she was born in the Maultsby house, the first site of the hospital in Columbus County and she also helped organize the candy stripers program many years ago. Mrs. Singletary served in the Red Cross during WWII and volunteered with the local Red Cross Chapter over the years in Whiteville.
