Message from Bill Bozeman,
Interim Pastor
Keepin’ it Real With Dusty Carson
Associate Pastor
I’ll Sail My Ship Alone
Most people in this world live by this attitude: “I want to live
as I choose.” Or, “I want to set my own course.” Or, “I want to
go when and where I want to go.” Or, “I want to sail my ship
alone.” Basically, what they are saying is that they want to run
their own lives and do their own thing without anyone telling
them how, when or where to do it. Many of them want to live
without any rules or any authority over them that might
restrain them or limit their plans and actions in life.
The only thing wrong with that attitude is that it’s wrong.
There is no such thing as a life without rules, regulations and
authorities. God is the Creator and Sovereign King of this
universe and He has designed it to operate under His laws,
statutes and principles so that people can work together and
maintain order even in a fallen state. He created the heavens
and the earth and established permanent laws that would
govern them day and night. He is the ultimate authority and He
has ordained the different levels of authorities that exist today.
When we live by God’s laws we are blessed but when we vio-
late them or choose to ignore them we will experience certain
consequences. Listen to the following Scriptures:
Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 15, “Now it shall come to pass, if you
diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe
carefully all His commandments which I command you today,
that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of
the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and
overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your
God . . . . But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the
voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His
commandments and His statutes which I command you today,
that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.”
Galatians 6:7-8: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for
whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows
to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows
to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Romans 13:1-7: “Let every soul be subject to the governing
authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the
authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever
resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those
who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are
not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be
unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have
praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good.
But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in
vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on
him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not
only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For
because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers
attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all
their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom
customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.”
Psalm 22:28, “For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and He rules
over the nations.”
As stated previously, God is the ultimate authority and He has
ordained the different levels of authorities that exist today.
When we live by God’s laws we are blessed but when we
violate them or choose to ignore them we will experience
certain consequences. Instead of attempting to go our own way
and resist the laws of God, we would be far better off to submit
to Him and seek His wisdom.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday.
Love you all. Brother Bill
We’ve all heard that as believers in Jesus we have an enemy and we
do. I believe that one of the greatest enemies of the church and the
cross is something we least expect. Let’s be honest you wouldn’t
expect an enemy to be so obvious. The enemy that we face is
transparency. The greatest enemy we face is the urge to act like we
have life all together, to fool others and then eventually ourselves. In
doing so, we turn the church, which is meant to me a trauma unit
into a museum and this is why a broken world can’t relate to church-
es. You see God is wild and he is wild about humanity. The heart-
beat of God is humanity. We try to live lives that are flawless hop-
ing to impress others, God and even ourselves. If God was looking
to be impressed, the Bible wouldn’t use the word “Abba” which
means daddy. Daddies see all that happens in the life of their chil-
dren and still loves them through the good, bad and ugly seasons of
life. God takes the mess and pains of life and turns them into a
masterpiece, for his glory and your good. If you and I were as half
as cultured as people wanted us to be and wish we were, we would
be of no use to Christianity. I love a quote by one of my heroes of
the faith Rich Mullins, excuse my paraphrasing “people will judge
and condemn, matter of fact some are looking to do that. I’d rather
live on the edge of falling and let my security be in Christ, then
living up to others pietistic illusion of moral excellence.” I believe
that revival happens, when we stop trying to impress others and
building our own kingdom. Revival happens when Christ followers
are raw, real and an example of what God can do with broken
people. You see transparency, honesty and relevance is what attracts
people to Christ through you, not perceived perfection. I have a
theory, and it might not be very popular. Everyone is broken, the
brave ones are just willing to admit it day in and day out. These
people are brave in the midst of pain. We’ve got two options, first
we can ignore it like most will or we can claim it, acknowledge it
and allow God to mend us. I write this as a person who is broken. I
don’t cling to a title or even the degrees that hang on my wall. Those
things are fleeting and very superficial and misleading at times. I
cling to Philippians 3:8 “Yes, everything else is worthless when
compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as
garbage, so that I could gain Christ.” You really want to see the
gravity of what Paul is saying go look up the original word that is
translated garbage and you will see Paul is not as sanitized as believ-
ers wish he was. What am I saying… don’t hide, but run with your
flaws and imperfections to the cross. Find joy in your Abba. Don’t
fall for the trick that you have to be perfect and have life all together
to be accepted, love, forgiven or used by God. Picasso said good
taste is the enemy of art. I’m thankful that God’s love is not cultured
but its wild and it’s free and it sometimes doesn’t make sense. I read
an article this week that sums up want my heart is saying “You can-
not sanitize grace. You can’t stuff it into a blue blazer and make it
wear khakis. Grace is messy, offensive, and it sometimes misses
church. To expect God to pump prefabricated plastic moral people
out of a religious factory is to neuter grace and chain it inside a gat-
ed community. If God’s scandalous relationship with the 12 thugs
(12 disciples) means anything, then we should expect a variegated
spectrum of righteousness and be patient—or repentant—when
such sanctification doesn’t meet our expectations. God meets us in
our mess and pushes holiness out the other side." Allow God to
wade into the waters of brokenness with you and allow him to
rescue you.
In Christ,
Dusty Carson

If you are volunteering for VBS meet in the loft at
8:00am every morning.
Movie Night
Every Tuesday 8:00pm-10pm
Bring a friend!
I am in need of an adult to travel with us to Cleveland. If you
are willing to serve with the students July 5-13 please let me
know. You may be need to drive a van. This would be a great
time for you to see our students serving. We will be doing two
soccer camps, baseball camp, softball camp, cheer camp and
basketball camp as well as performing Dramas and Music in
the evenings.
Vacation Bible School is fast approaching. I am in hopes that
everyone who can help has signed up. Molly is still in need of
helpers. Please go online or see Molly. Every day after VBS
we will be doing an activity. The cost is $5 per person. This
will help offset some of the expense. If you can help with
chaperoning please let me know. We have transportation for
25 people once that is full if we do not have any other adults
and vehicles we are limited the event to the first 25 paid.
The youth ministry team would like to invite all middle school
and high school students and parents to a movie night Sunday
night June 28th. We will be showing an outdoor movie. Bring
your lawn chairs and blankets. I will be serving hotdogs, chips
and drinks as well. Please come enjoy the fun with your
student.
Summer time always means time at the pool. Tonight our
coed small group will be meeting at the Bevills. Regular time
5-7. Food will be provided. If you would like to come swim,
fellowship, and learn about a small group, come hang out with
us.
We have two students and adults leaving for SLU in the
morning. Please pray for their safety as they travel to Orlando
and that God will show them how he would like to use them as
leaders in the future. I am very excited for them as they will
evaluate what God has done and will continue to do in their
lives.
Forgiveness, so misunderstood!
For the past two weeks I have been speaking about forgiveness
based on an article at MarkMerrill.com Forgiveness is not what
you think! The following is an outline of sorts. It will probably
evoke more questions. That’s good. We start with
Forgiveness is NOT:
A Feeling If it were we would never do it because we
would never feel like it!
Weakness It requires more strength to recognize the
wrong, declare it and deal with it.
Ignoring It is not ignor ing the hur t or hiding from it. It
is just the opposite.
Forgetting It is what God does but you are I are not God.
At least not like him yet!
Condoning It is not excusing the wrong. It neither mini-
mizes nor justifies the act.
Reconciling We are to forgive and r econciliation may
follow but it is not necessary for forgiveness
Based on THEIR actions or inaction it really is about
us and our actions. They may never acknowledge the
wrong or even know of the wrong. We should forgive to
let go of the hurt and begin healing.
Conditional It does not contain clauses like If you do this
and this and this…then I will forgive you. It’s not about
them! It’s you letting go!
A Free Pass Sin has a way of finding us out. It will come
back to bite us again and again if we don’t change our
ways.
Revenge It is not a way to make the other feel bad so they
can hurt like you.
Justice God is the judge of the righteous and the unright-
eous. ALL will stand in judgment before him with Christ
or without!
Change The other person that is. Their actions, thoughts
or behaviors. It’s about changing yours.
Trust Because you forgive another does not mean you
have to trust them. It may mean that you can and will and
that is best. Forgiveness is freely given. Trust must be
earned with consistent truth telling over a period of time
usually longer than we think.
Changing the Past Rather it is to draw a line in the sand
to change the present and the future from her on out.
Forgiveness IS: A Command with a Consequence
A command of God is for our best interest. It is for our benefit.
We don’t like being told what to do that’s why we rebel. But
God’s heart is good. He is for us not against us. He has way too
much invested in us to destroy us although it would be his right
as we can never repay the debt we owe to him. 14-15 “In prayer
there is a connection between what God does and what you do.
You can’t get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also
forgiving others. If you refuse to do your part, you cut yourself
off from God’s part. Matthew 6:14-15 The Message
