Bringing Israeli technologies to African villages

Jewish Heart for Africa is a nonprofit 501(c)3 that brings Israeli technologies to African villages.

Our first initiative, Project Sol, finances and installs solar technologies to power schools, clinics, and water pumping systems in Ethiopia, Uganda and Tanzania.

In 2008, we have funded 17 projects helping over 18,600 people.

That there is a linear relationship between access to energy services and poverty reduction.
We will try to prove that:

Typical African village.

On average, an African woman spends six hours a day manually processing grains, fetching water and gathering wood.

Wood is the only source of energy that exist for close to 90% of the population in Africa.
2.4 billion people worldwide rely on wood for energy.

Wood shortages force parents and children to walk miles in search of anything to burn.

Women and girls spend hours each day fetching water, preventing them from going to school and earning a living.

With climate changes, severe droughts hit the continent, leaving people with no water for drinking, cooking or for irrigation needs.

Africa has plenty of ground water resources--
What Africa doesn’t have is the energy to pump it.

Solar panels.

Solar panels are reliable, require no operating costs and need very little maintenance for over 20 years.

Water stations are positioned throughout the village to supply water for irrigation, drinking, washing, cooking and for livestock.

How much does it cost?
It takes between $15,000 to $18,000 to install the entire water pumping system for a village, allowing us to pump over 20,000 liters of clean water each day.

How much does it cost?
With $4,270 we purchased and installed 240 watts of solar panels on the roof of the clinic and powered 10 light bulbs (6 inside the clinic and 4 security light outside). We also installed a 65-liter refrigerator for vaccines and medicines.

Lighting in schools is rare.

* The cost varies depending on the size of the school, rooms to light and the number of computers to power.
How much to power a school?
$4,000* is needed to electrify a single school providing children with basic lighting and access to educational tools such as radio, television and computers for the first time.
