Judging by the scores by comparison to the previous month’s game, this course seems to have the “number” of some of our more experienced Jiggers no names no pack-drill Mr. Chairman! Thanks to our Vice Captain, Kelvin Tayfield for standing in for me for the day as my arm continues its pathetic journey of convalescence! Having said that though it was great to join the crew for a few after game noggins there were a number of the lads who seemed to have the bit firmly between the teeth and a lot of good banter and abuse flowed as well as the Heini’s and Peroni’s. This is very much part of what Jiggers is about and I would urge as many of you as possible to make an effort to join the after game festivities generally as much fun is had there than on the course!! Obviously driving is a problem but with some forward planning we can minimise this without giving the local constabulary work to do on a Friday afternoon. A big thanks to Mike Berry for all the effort he put in to organising this event. Again the day was really well organised with the notice going out in good time (somehow missed by Kevin Smyth whose frequent travels to so many exotic locations is causing him a calendar time-warp at this stage he does not even seem sure which month his daughter is getting married !). Mike’s organisational style is indicative of why the aviation industry is so strong in the region  “you are all playing unless you tell me otherwise and you best have a damn good excuse if you are not playing”. Mike made a number of visits to the Club before the day to ensure that everything ran smoothly  even a separate check in table for Jiggers and the Club also collecting our competition fee. He managed to organise some great prizes as well which meant all our competition fee went to swell the year end party imbibing fund. The prizes ranged from a couple of bottles of natures finest, a couple of bottles of Jack, dinner vouchers, Areej vouchers (good peace offerings for the brakes), overnight stay at the Qamardeen Hotel in Downtown Dubai and a one day access to the pool and spa including lunch for 2 at Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa great effort thanks Mike. In the post match revelry 2 points of note: - 1. EK Smyth was rounded on by his friends for the ridiculous bar he has set in the way he entertains his wife for birthdays and other such anniversaries. It was pointed out to him that he is creating immense pressure for his friends as the rest of our wives are not at all interested that he booked his trip to the premier hotel in the Seychelles from Durban, via Dubai on some special deal or other. In his squealing attempts at mitigation, EK pronounced that neither he nor his wife ever mention anything to anyone about these trips we were at pains to point out to the big man that his thinking was naive in the extreme! 2. Concern was also expressed that none of the older hands had had an opportunity to “coach” young Bryce Allan before he rushed off and presented the love of his life with the spa treatment voucher that he had won. Conventional wisdom would dictate that Bryce should keep such good fortune up his sleeve and only present it when he needed to sneak in an extra round or two of golf (or liquor) outside of what is deemed reasonable by the brakes. Mike had also set out a challenge for the most number of courses played with the winner taking home one of Nederberg’s Private Bins. First prize turned out to be a bit of a no contest really with Gulliver Collins romping home with 164 courses across 13 countries in 5 continents! Surprisingly there were a number of borderline Pimplies running for 2 nd place Deks 131, Kelvin 130, Wayne

128. (Verification was done in Deks’ case to ensure he wasn’t confusing well maintained fairwayswith other well manicured landing strips!)

Apart from the rough which had already started with the maintenance programme, the course wasin good condition and the weather reasonably kind for this time of the year.

We had 28 players including 25 Jiggers and 3 Guests - another good showing especially from the
