JIM Graphical Abstracts A graphical abstract is a single, concise visual summary of the main findings of the article. For ease of understanding, the graphical abstract should read clearly from i.e. top to bottom or left to right. Avoid tables, raw primary data or distracting cluttering components. Use text sparingly. Do not write ”Graphical Abstract” within the image file. Keep it simple! See examples below. Image size: Document size of 5x5 inches, at 300dpi, or 1500x1500 pixels. Larger images are allowed but please use the same square ratio. Online a smaller preview version will be clickable to display the full resolution image. Font: Arial or Myriad Pro, 10-14 pt, all weights. Text colour: Black is preferred. Avoid using coloured text that might be hard to read. Any text or label must be part of the image file. File type: Preferred file types are JPEG, TIFF, EPS or PDF Colours: Use colour as appropriate, avoid saturated primary colours and light text on black. If possible try to avoid green-red contrast with consideration of colour blind readers. For accepted articles, the editorial office is able to provide graphics support for graphical abstracts if needed. You may upload a draft for a graphical abstract, that will be finalised at a later stage. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to use any images that they include from outside sources, including articles, web pages, stock photo sites or Google image searches. Any needed permissions must be submitted along with your graphical abstract or identified in the Acknowledgements section of your manuscript. JIM general policy is not allow the usage of business logotypes, organisation names and or imagery that can be viewed as adversitesment or that detracts from the basic science message of the graphical abstract. !
