JIM LAMBIE A FOREST: TREE DRESSING AIMS OF WORKSHOP To investigate ideas of tree dressing using colour and texture set within nature. To create a group tree dressing in the artland or using branches inside, wrapping into it everyday objects. BACKGROUND Jim lambie has created a range of “Soulsticks” where he has cocooned sticks and branches within coloured threads. They which have a totemic presence as if they were some sort of relic - however he has actually encased hidden objects within them, everyday objects such as socks and an empty cigarette packet. METHOD Children will be given some background to the day before coming on a visit and will be encouraged to bring in everyday objects. Once at Jupiter go out into the artland with different materials of different colours and textures. In groups choose a tree to “dress” with the different materials and different layers. Wrap into the tree your objects - only you will know what lies beneath - use the materials to build around the shape of the object. Give your tree a title and explain to the group why you have chosen this title. An alternative would be to use individual branches collected from around the artland.
