Jim Murphy

Jim Murphy is Executive Vice President, COO - International for Costco Wholesale and is a member of the company’s Executive Committee. His responsibilities include directing the activities and expansion of Costco’s operations outside of North America. He is also responsible for the U.S. based global buying and export groups.

His 43 year career in retailing began with the grocery division of Lucky Stores in Tacoma, Washington. During the past 28 years, Mr. Murphy has held the following management positions at Costco: Warehouse Manager at Portland #02, VP of Operations in the Northern California Region, Senior VP for the Northeast Division, Senior VP for Europe and Senior VP of International.

Jim earned a MBA from the University of Portland, a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles and a AA from Pierce College, Tacoma.

Jim is an active member of the following Boards: University of Portland Board of Regents, University of Washington, Tacoma Milgard School of Business Advisory Board, Seattle University International Business Advisory Board and the Tacoma Youth Chorus. He is also Vice Chairman of the College Success Foundation.
