Assumptions• Why do we group students by age and
move them through in batches?
• Why do we hold time as the constant and learning as the variable?
• Why do we advance students based on credits and time served?
• Why are most tests focused on measuring content while the world demands competency?
• Why are most student incentives and sanctions based on compliance behaviors?
“Learning is autonomous requiring an active, self-constructed intentional process.”

All learning is personal
Institute @ CESA #1 Definition
Personalized learning is an approach to learningand instruction that is designed around individual learner readiness, strengths, needs and interests.
Learners are active participants in setting goals, planning learning paths, tracking progress and determining how learning will be demonstrated.
At any point in time, learning objectives, content, method and pacing are likely to vary from learner to learner.
A fully personalized environment moves beyond both differentiation and individualization.

be taught4. Goal setting, planning and measuring progress are
key practices5. Self-efficacy is taught, exercised and reinforced6. Ownership for learning is nurtured7. Responsible choice making is a daily practice8. Learning focuses on developing skills, not just
accumulating content9. Self-management is a direct by-product10. Independent learning skills are a natural outgrowth
