The day was laid out by the gang for a three Moto format. It was calm early in the morning for moto one. The #1 rider for 2008 38 expert Kon Baur lashed out with the holeshot. Baur again led the clubs points race early in the season. Warren Johnson took over the lead before the four initial tabletops. Johnson held on for one lap. 38 Master Larry Laye was on hand to show the expert class the fast way around the track by passing Johnson after the whoops and a long double. Dallas Coulter won Moto one in the 38 experts after moving up from fourth place position. Tracy Hrach 2-1-1 won the three Moto format when in moto three Baur crashed and Coulter D.N.S.. The wind started to pick up in race four and 38 novice Robert Reed said "I just want to get home safe. No problem with the wind when it is at my back on the first four tabletops. But at the step up I've gotta throw the bike into the wind to the right. My 09 Yamaha is set up by High-Octane out of Thousand Oaks.” Reed had been practicing and planned for the holeshot. "I plan to start here on the outside and cut them all off moving to the inside, Reed said before the start." But, Kevin Westmoreland got the offi-cial hole shot behind unclassified rider John Keller. Reed's new race bike started him in fifth. Jim Rob-erts was heavy on the inside rut wall gaining position on Westmorland before the table tops. Roberts passed Westmoreland on the first lap and pressured Keller. KX250 rider Keller stalled on a deep right rut on a hump. Roberts lead grew larger . Roberts, who seemed too fast for this class would go on to win it, along with moto two and three 52 novice rider Gene Foster said before the start of moto one." Watch me I'm going to get the holeshot." Another, heavily charged starter was Mike Villa and he said don't waste your film on me, this time. Villa and Foster had both forecasted right after the first turn. However, Foster's plans were almost thwarted by Michael Osenbaugh. Osenbaugh commandingly led down the long start straight as he has done many times in the past. He did it until Foster cut in under Osenbaugh. Foster got on the gas hard and wheeled for a short distance taking over first. 45 novice Kirk Schrader jumped into the action behind Foster. Schrader charged forward passing Foster and grew a large lead on the 45 pack. Later in the Moto, 52 novice Mark Toguchi kept Schrader company. Toguchi jumped past Schrader on the tabletop past the ski jump. Then, Schrader would out corner Toguchi in the right hand rut after a short straight-away. So back-and-forth they went. The wind kept up blowing from an easterly direction which would have been a blessing for a windjammer vessel but not for most land lovers. Both riders competed in separate classes and showed different riding styles in the wind. The short stumpy with a 28” inseam framed Toguchi was fearless in the wind. He did not float over the jumps but cut through the wind like a heavy butcher's knife slicing through a thick slab of meat. Toguchi, said afterwards "I struggled through the turns." Toguchi , then chuckled and said," I don't do ruts very well." Schrader said afterwards “that was a battle.” Both riders had pushed each other to take wins in their overall prospective classes.
