The Wisdom of the Alchemists and their searchfor the Stone of the Wise culminated in the studyand knowledge of the Tree of Life. Generally speak.ing the Alchemists were supposed to know the secretof transmuting base metals into gold; the medievalAlchemists, however, fearing persecution from thehands of a bigoted priestcraft, also used the metal­lurgic terms as a cover to hide certain secrets per­taining to the regeneration of man and the trans­mutation of his animal traits and passions into thehigher human faculties and powers. Certain booksof the Bible also have been written in this doublelanguage, the esoteric side of which can only be un­derstood by one possessing the secret key; thus theRevelation of St. John contains a very accurate pre­scription for the process of regeneration along thelines of the Tree of Life.

We first hear of the Tree of Life in Genesis 2:9,where we learn that the Lord made to grow in themidst of the Garden of Eden the Tree of Life andalso the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Fromthe esoteric point of view, the Garden of Eden withits four rivers represent our own body, the Lordwho gave the commandment is our own Higher Selfand the Tree of Life is in us, just as we have some­where in our system the Tree of Knowledge of Goodand Evil. This has been assumed to be true by mostesoteric students of the Bible, especially by thosegreat Scholars of the Hebrew Scriptures known asthe "Kabalists." In fact, the whole Kabala andkabalistic Science is built up on the idea of theTree of Life, its presence in our body and the pos­sibility of and regeneration by means of it.

Where this Tree of Life is to be found is nowhereclearly stated; references to it are so vague every­where that one must read between the lines to geteven the faintest idea of what is meant. Further­more !ince most writers of Holy Writ worked almostexclusi\'ely on the spiritual plane ignoring the men­tal and knowing very little or nothing of materialsciences, we can readily understand why we find solittle real practical information there and why weowe so much to our modern scientific progress alongmaterial lines. Now, when the writer, in believingto have found the twelve fruits of the kabalisticTree of Life in the twelve ductless glands of thehuman body, makes the claim of a new discovery, hemay possibly be trespassing upon the copyrights ofSt. John, who evidently did have quite a specificknowledge of the physical functions of the body,subconscious or intuitive as this knowledge malhave been. Nevertheless it has already become eVl­dent to the writer that an analogy between the Treeof Life and our Endocrine system will reveal manysecrets in regard to the latter's (unctioning andpurpose.

One o( the avowed objects of the study of theKobala and the Tree of Life is the discovery of theso-called "Elixir of Life," in other words, the For­mula of longevity, if not Immortality. Rosicrucians~now that Spirit, inherent in Matter, is not only'!'Imortal but eternal, since even at the disintegra­tion of the human body the cells unite to form othercombinations. They also know of different methodsto immortalize their Personalities. As to physicalImmortality, it is questionable whether any of UB,

even in the most beautiful and the healthiest body,would care to live forever.

On the other hand, when we see the wonderfulstrides made by Science in our present Age and ourrapid progress towards God's Kingdom on Earth,the proverbial three score and ten seem altogethertoo short and we feel that we should at least passthe 100 mark and possibly reach 144, the numberof the perfect man.

If the assumption that our gland syst!!m is theTree of Life is proven to be correct, then It becomesevident that the secretions of these ductless glandsconstitute the Elixir of Life. Space will not permita detailed description of the ductless glands andtheir function, but this is their story in general out­line. There are twelve of them in various parts ofthe body, the most important ones being the Pituita­ry, the Thyroid, the Adrenals, and the Gonads. Theyare called Ductless because they have no channelsleading to or from them. Their work consists inmanufacturing within themselves, by a process notyet discovered by Science, a specific fluid which theysecrete into the bloodstream. This secretion normallytakes place when the need for it arises in the bloodsystem. Thus the Thyroid gland secretes ~hyrox~n,the Ante.Pituitary glan~ ~ives out Tethelll~, ~h~leits partner, the Post-Pltultar~. secr~tes Pltwtrl!'.The Adrenals give out Adrenalin, whIch latter flUIdcan now be manufactured synthetically in our chem­ical laboratories, a veritable triumph for chemistry.

Now according to whether our glands flow nor­mally, 'or whether they oversecrete or. give out aninsufficient amount of fluid, we are eIther normal,supernormal, subnormal. Wh~n all the glandssecrete in their proper proportIon we are well bal­anced normal human beings as we should be. Weinherit gland irregularities, also are we influencedby the planetary constellation at the hour of ourbirth; for, as the writer has also discovered, theseven major glands correspond to the seven planetsfrom which they draw their initial power quotum,whence we also come to say that the length of.li~eis written in the stars. Our original gland ratIo. ISmodified, however, by environment and educatIonand most of all by our sex life.

To cite some examples of abnormal gland secre­tion, when the Ante-Pituitary secretes too stronglyduring its ruling period between the ag~ of 14 .to21, the individual grows to giant proportIons, whIleundersecretion makes of him a midget. Too muchPost-Pituitary secretion during the same periodmakes a man effeminate and 0. woman a victim ofmenstruation. A Hyper-Thyroid secretion createsoverexcitabllity and brings an early death. Peopleof this type are generally optimists. The reverse,the sub·thyroid type, is pessimistically inclined. Inextreme cases the latter mak"s Cretins, who now,however, can be cured by the injection of Thyroxin.Hyper-Adrenals are caused by tumors on theglands. which when secreting cause such an over­flow of Adrenalin that is likely to change the in­dividual's sex, making women masculine, and meneffeminate. Subgondas or so-called Eunuchs changetheir sex entirely.

My Visit to the Rosicrucians in Europe

As he shook hands with me, he !Suddenly lookedinto my Cj'CS and said: "Brother, do not go toEurope as i'OU plan. but wnit until 1925, then thatwhich i.s dearest to )"our heart will be revealed. Ifyou go in 1923 )'OU will not find what you are look­ing for." I was astonished hi" his words, (or I hadbut recently developed a fond hope of going toEurope to \'isit the various Rosicrucian lodges inGermany, I had not expressed my desire; it was asecret one. ThereCore. how could he who hud justmet me for the first tinle know my secret desires?I was only in the Fourth Grade then; today 1 under­stand.

For various reasons I decided to disreg:ud the ad­"ice of the Imperator and make m}' journey toEurope, rondl)' hoping that I might meet some ofour brethren and perhaps visit one of our CoreignLodges. So, 1923 found me on the other side of theAtlantic ready to begin n strange trip.

Knowing Europe fnirl)' well. I [eCt the trammelledhighwnys oC the usual sightseer and wended mywa)' :lbout quietly without revealing to anyone myreal purpose. I was 31w3ys on the alert Cor any ofthe Rosicrucian salutations or secret signs given tous in the Fourth Grade, but knew that I must notjeopardite m)' desires bv making an)' outward signor asking nny definite questions, Always in mymind was the prediction of the tmperator that Iwould not lind whnt t was looking Cor in the )'ear1923.

Reachin~ Holland, I did not bu)' a ticket Cor anypoint oC destination, but bought n mileage ticketwhich permitted me to make as mnny "stop overs"as I desired. I listened to the conversation of myco·travelers and stopped at place.!! to see wonderfulwork.!! of art, and made other stops where manymen and women were assembled. ever watchful ofsi21ls and words. f snw much that plainly indica..the existence of the Rosicrucians and recognited inman}' ways the practical application of our teach­ings in art. science. and other demonstrations.

Alter spending some time in Strecht I went on toHamburg. I had made up my mind to go to a lnrgelibrary nnd make a senrch there for such books orrecords as would lead me to one of the RosicrucianLod~s or Temples. I began to .....onder .....hy Rosi­crucinnism in Europe hnd to hide itself or remain sosecret.

As I entered the Johanne-um. one of the oldestlibrnries in Hambursr, the librarian nppoached meand then standing still before me in a manner whichnil Fourth Grade members ~'i11 reco/o:nite, ;laid:"Thou wilt not lind what thou lookest for!" Know­ing that I was fnce to fnce with a Brother of theOrder, I simply replied: "1 will be guided by yourinstructions." I wns pllrzlIitted to explore the libraryand examine man)' rare and hidden books. This isthe library where Humboldt had been studying andreceived his inspiration to come to America nnd cs-

tablish his great plans. Failing. however, to accom­plish this in America, he returned to Germany andestnbllshed the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Having received the key to my search from theIibrarinn. I went directly to the Masonic Temple. Iwas a little surprised to learn that I must look tothe Masons for further instructions. for in Americathe Rosicrucian.!! and the Freemasonic bodies arenot so closel)' allied as I found them to be :J.l1through Europe.

J was directed to the Grand Lodge of the Anglo_Saxon Race. of .....hich the King of Sweden is theImperinl Potentate. To thi.!! Lodge I made myselfkno .....n. was recognited as n member in good stand­inl{ of the Amore. and directed by them to theLibrary of Colonial Enterprises and told to make acertain stat.ement.

In this way 1 found t)'pical Rosicrucian response.was given a \'ery personal welcome as a Brother ofthe AMORe, and directed to call upon the Secretaryof State of the Free and Hanastadt. Hamburg. Iwas informed that he was a Brother of our Orderand a high official of the org3nization throughoutthe world.

What n delight to meet such a Brother 3fter somnny requests nnd trials! I have not enumerntedall the calls nnd requests I made in a veiled way. norall the persons 1 hnd to interview nnd sec in orderto get to this one man. My trip thus far remindedme of our Imperntor's trip to Europe in 1909 .....henhe sought the Grand Lodge in France and wa.!!tested for determination and endurance and sincer­it)' in so many ways as related in the )lay. 1916,issue of the Anlerican Rosae Crucis magatine.·

The Secretar}' of State saw me at once and beforef could ut ter a word he knew exactly what I de·sired. He spoke of it at once. I wns puzzled. Wn.!!it telepathy? Or had the librarinn simply tele­phoned the Secretary that I would cnll. It did notreally matter: for I was delighted to receive thesalutations and welcome Crom one so high in ourOrder in Europe.

With profound sadneu he explained to me why Icould not find that which I was seeking.-n Lodgeof the Order in assembly, And at once the predic­tion of our Imperator came to my nlind again. TheSecretat'}o related how. since 19H. no secret scuionsor privnte convocations of the Order had been heldin nccordance with war proclamations. Becnuse ofthe existenec of Bolshe\'ic orgnnizations and othersinjurious to the political safety of the country. linorder had been issued forbidding any secret meet­ing1l or nssemblies of any kind. Even though manyof the Rosicrucian officers were high governmentalofficials llnd the nl\me and the principles of theR. C. were well kno\\'fl and appreciated in the coun­try. the Rosicrucians prefererd not to be an excep­tion to the general proclamation. :lnd had abnndonedall meetings or assemblies for the time being.

By special arrangements the SecretllTy was per­mitted to bring into his headquarters nil the grentrecords of valuable papers and books as well nsinsignin or the Rosicrucinn Grund Lodges in Ger­many and there preserve them until after the edicthad been abrogated,

shown to me which delighted my heart and SllS­

tained the impression I had of the greatness andgoodness of the Rosicrucinn Order. Then the Secre­tary spoke of our Inlllerator. H. Spencer Lewis,described him accurateJ~', referred to the great workhe hnd done for the Order in America lind elsewhere, and fmally took me into another room wherehe pointed out the portrait of the Imperator hang­ing on the wall. As I listened to him speak of theintimate personal characteristics of the ImpCfnlor,of the \'er~' personal detnils of his work in Americaand elsewhere, and even of his distinction of soul, Iwondered and wondered. I knew that our Imperatorand the Secretary had never filet in the flesh, for Iwas told this in mnny ways. How then, eould oneBrother, 7000 miles distant, know another so well?Since then I haye learned how. It is no ffi)'stery.

I learned much about the Amore and the Rosi­cruci:ms generall~' during my trip and conflrme-d theclaims nnd statements made by our Imperator inthis country. There wns some doubt in Illy mindabout a few of the points of the history and re­lAtionship of the Yarious branches of the Rosicru-

cian Order, but I soon found that this was solelyan American product,-this confusion of names andbodies. In Europe there iii solidarity and ull thefraternal bodies are- c1osel~' related and the headsof each hllve the very highest respect for each other.

And, while I did fail to attend or witness anvLod~e con\'ocation as J had hoped lind ns predictedb)' the Imperator, I learned that in 1!J25 I wouldsee :dl that I hoped for, llnd so I shall go thereagain.

If there had ever been any doubt in m)' mindabout the sincerit)· and goodness, the grentness and'realness of the teachinj:t"S lind work of the Amore,and if I had ever wavered in loyalty or arltor to.'wards our Lodges in this country. that vi~it to thethen Secretary of State brought the Amorc to thepinnacle of my esteem; anlt todny in 01)' daily life,in business and social affairs, I stand fairly anusquarely on the plntform of the Rosicrucians. It isa two-edgeJ sword with whic:, J defend and withwhich I would enter into the Gates of Peace Eternal.

The Supreme Lodge of the Order found itself sor­rowed at the loss of the COmlJanioship of its formerGrand "laster, J. C. Anthon~', M. D., when he passedto the higher realm on Monday, August 3rd, last.

Dr. Anthony was one of the founden of the Cali­fornia Grand Lodge in Colifornia in 191i. For overthirty-five ~'ears he had been :1 practising physicianin and around San Francisro. Hl' had 11 h.ost offriends besides thousands of indiddual admirerswho ever paid testimony to the unselfish service herendered to humanit)· in time of disllSter, epidemics,nnd sorrow. For many years he conducted a schoolof philosophy and uplift thought in San Francisco80lely for the good that it brought to many. Thiswas when such organizations as now exist werehardl~' known, and his lecture hall and offices werealways crowded with earnest !:'eekers. Without feeor hOlle of reward our good Brother carried on awork that made him known throughout the stateand he was one of the most popullir and belovedphysici:l.ns on the Pacific Coast.

In 19li he exerted wonderful influence in estab­lishing the first Amore Lodge in San Francisco, andseveral years later, much against his desires, he waselected as Grnnd Master, the Imperator installinghim in this high office. As Grand Master the Lodgeflourished under his kindly, learned direction and heleft a wonderfully sweet impression on everyonewho met him.

With no famil)' ties and an increasing desire tohelp humanity he gave of himself too greatly. Twogreat services he specialized in. both of which willremain as a monument to his love and tenderness.He sought after and delighted in caring for theentrance of children into this world in a mannerthat assured a healthy birth for the child and afreedom from unnecessary suffering for the mother.As often as three and four nights a week he wouldbe awake all night maintaining a sympatheticattunement with the mother and watching her "'{ithextreme care lind interest. His record in connectionwith such cases is phenomenal for the success heattained and the exceedingly large number of chil­dren who owe 50 much to him. His other specialty.was unique in the United States. He had n means

At sixt)'_five yenrs of age he wns worn in spirit,tired in body and unable to continue the greut s('r·vices he had given for so man)' years; and whenhe realized that he hlld spent his life in overwork,his one constant prayer was that he might puss onllnd out of his old bod)' and come again to continuethe work in a newer and more vif,:'orous body. Hencehis passing was penceful and full)' plann('d by him.His desires were that the Imperator take charge ofthe last sen'ices and that he be ~i\'en the Rosicru·cian Funeral Convocation, which is II service ofrecognition of the attainment of a higher initiationby the one who passes on.

At his request the Rosicrucian principle of crema·tion was used and his ushes, nlong with those of hiswife, who had passed away a number of yenrs ago,were scattered over the lawns and tlowerbeds in IIplace dearly loved b)' him.

In this way the Biblical injunction and the lawof nature were fulfilled and dust unto dust was re­turned. But, in our hearts and in the minds ofthousnnds throughout this country the beloved smile/lnd kind words, deeds /lnd unselfish principles ofDr. Anthony will live for many years. This wasbeautifully illustrated by the vcr)' Inrge attendanceat the Rosicrucian servires conducted by the 101­perator and by the mass of floral pieces S('nt brmembers of the Order. patients and strangers alike.

ly the Imperator became interested in the growthand development of Tampa, Florida. The possibili­ties in that section of the country impressed himand he soon renliU!d that the popular opinion aboutFlorida being a land of swamps and alligators wasnot only untrue but most unfair, Another false im­pression was that the climate in Florida is unbear­able in the summer months. Years ago II GrandLodge of our Order WllS established in Tampa nndsince thnt time the Imperator has made yearly visitsto that city for weeks at a time in fnll, winter,sllring nnd summer months. Always did hc find thesnme wonderful elimnte, beautiful beaches withbathing the whole year round in the warm water ofTampa Bny and Gulf of Mexieo. Nowhere withina hundred miles or Tampa did he find swamps,malarial conditions or other objectionable Ceatures;and the only alligaton to be seen in or near theeity are in a museum and one must pay to see them!

The city of Tampa, because of its location near theGulC of Mexico, has an even milder climate thanother parts of Florida and is eXCi!edingly healthy.Because of its port and railroad terminals it hasbeen steadily growing in population for some years;but a )'ear ago the gre'" boom startetl there throughthe announcement of many business and profession­al persons that they had disco\'ered in Tampa theyear 'round playground of America. Since then therailroads have put on through trains from NewYork and Chicago to Tampa, making the trip ashort one without change_ This has brought thou­sands Crom all parts of the East and North to thecity with the result that a hundred or more familiesmove to Tampil each month and thousands arrivethere monthly to visit lind buy property and homes.

Property in desirable sections was seleeted by thelmperator for future usc, and he also allied himselfwith bu~iness men there to help make Tnmpa whatit should be. The growth of the city has increasedthe holdings of the Imperator and the Order lindmany of the members of the Order are now wend­inK their way to Tampa to live.

This hns brought about man}' opportunities forthe Order in that part of the country and some timeago the f'loridn Grand Lodge extended to theSupreme Grand Lodge an in\'itation to mo\'e itsexeeuth'e offices to Tampa and utilb:e its propertythere.

After a year's eonsideration the removal .....asfinally announCi:d in last month's issue. At thesame time a prolninent archite<::t in Tampa, who hasdesigned most of the beautiful buildings and homesin that city, .....al engaged to prepare planl for thenew Temple to be used by the Order.

These plans have been received and they call fora ver}' large main structure in the Spanish style sopopular in Tampa. This large bUilding, costingover twenty-five thousand dollars (aside from theelaborate Egyptian Temple which will be within it)will stand on Memorial Boulevard, one of the finestand most popular boulevards leading through theheart oC the residential suburbs or Tampa nnd .....ith­in fifteen minutes' drive to the City Hall. As was announced in the last issue oC this maga­zine, the Supreme Grand Lodge oC the AMORe wiltmo\'e to Tampa, Florida, on or about the first ofNo\'ember oC this }·ear.

This will not be a surprise to man)' oC our mem­hers throughout the North American Jurisdiction,for they have anticipated that such a change wouldcome some dn)" but because it will be n surprise tomany outside df America, we wish to give the de­tail~ and reasons,

The Supreme Grand Lodge sta~ted. its career anduffiicial activities in New York City In February ofHilS lifter six yenrs planning and prepnratorywork During the years 1915 to 1917 many branchand 'Grand Lodges were established in Easternstlltes and very heavy propaganda work was con­ducted in the J:::ast by the :5upreme Officers. .

In the spring of 1911 the Imperator made n Jour­ney to the Pacific Coast a~d attended the installa­tion of two large Lodges In Los Angeles and SanFrancisco. He also visited some smaller groups andcarried on his le<::ture work as far inland as Helena,Montana. During this long trip he found that thePacific Coast and the midwest needed more attentionthan it had re<::eived in the prcvious )'ean, nnd hewas impressed with the unusual opportunitiu thatexisted in the West for building up the great workof A3-IORC. The following )'e:n the Grand Lodgeof Calirornia commissioned one of its founders andofficers to call upon the Imper:!tor in New York andrenew the welcome to the Superme Lodge to cometo Son Io~ran<:isco and establish the work oC theOrder on a great scale in the West.

So promising were the possibilities and so. indu~­ing were the many offers made by the C:\hfornmLodges that the Imperator finall}' agreed to move hishome and executive offices there for a few years.This was done in April of Hl18, One year later allof the executive staff of the Order moved to SanFrancisco lind assisted in building up II large mem­bership in the city and state and finally throughoutthe whole West.

In San Francisco two temples in Egyptian stylewere completed by the members and Supreme st~ff,the second one being necessar}' becnule of the 10­

cr<'ased activities and Inrger membership.For six years the Kational headquarters and the

Supreme Oiricers ha\'e been in California. It hasbeen n period of great success, joy nnd increase forthe Order. The original officers and members of theCali Cornia Grand Lodge have been most loyal andliberal in their assistance and support oC the Orderand the National Headquarters. Their attitude,typif)'ing the broad and liberal spirit of California,will always remain a monument to the greatness ofthat state and its people_ No one can Ih'e in Cali­fornia, and especiall)' San Franeisc;o, for a year ormore without developing a great love and admira­tion for e\'er)'thing within that state. Therefore itis not strange that we should have many regretsabout leavin'!' San Francisco and the members oCthe one time California Grand Lodge, whieh willcontinue its existence and carryon the great workas usual,

there will be the ten room house now being pre­pared for the Imperntor and his fnmil)', The:;upreme Se<:retnr)' and his wife will OCCUP)" a newand modern Spanish type bungalow.

The main building will contain on the ground floor11 large librar)' Ilnd lecture hall in which will belocated the Metaphysical LibraT)" of Tampa, underthe direction of Amore. Here visitors and memberswill find all the books and magazines of every oc­cult, metaphrsical, m)'stical and Ilhilosophical or­ganization in the world: and various pubhj: lecturesin regard to these various movements will be heldhere from time to time.

Adjoining the Metaphysical Library will be thegeneral reception room for the Amore and also theReception Room and Secretar~"s office for theUJliVfll'situs Jllrnnilluli,-the higher work of' theAmore.

The Reception Room of Amorc will lead to theoffice of the Supreme Secrctllr~' of the Amorc, lindby means of II Ilrivate hallway, to th~ .In.l]lerator'solfice anti to his private sanctum adJolnlng, Thehallway will also lead to the Amorc laborator~' nndbeyond to rest rooms an.d a ver~' lurge ~nd. mod~rnworkroom flooded with hght and fresh air, m whIchthe large 'staff of employees will carr~' Oil the cleri·cal and routine work of the Amorc.

Passing Ull a ver~' wide llnd llftistic stairwayfrom the ground floor, past se\'cral ~unc~' alcovewindows one reaches the large reception room ofthe Temple. This spacious room in oriental ~ecora.tion has a number of nooks and corners with en­trances to rest rooms, the ante rooms lind a largeoriental nleo\'e, through which the members pass toenter the Egyptian Temple.

The Temple will be the largest one in Americaand will be the most elnborate in its decorations lindappointments from a pur.ely Egyptian point o~ view,It will have no outside wmdows, but WIth speCIal ar­rangements will be flooded with fresh air. At thesides and rear of the Temple will be privute hullsfor the officers.

It is expected that the offices and reception roomswill be read~' for occupanc~' b~' December first orearlier, but the Eg~'ptian Temple mu~' ~ot be com­pleted in its appointments bt.'fore the sprIng of 1926.

CHANGES IN MEMBERSHIP AND LITERA­TURE

Because of the change in address much new litera­ture will have to be printed. The lmperator is tak­ing advantage of this fact and is having printednow one of the largest and finest projlaganda booksever issued b~' the Order. Its title will be Rosiel'u­dun WI/milla/ioll. It will present the histor~' I1ndpurposes of the Order throughout the world I1ndespeciall~' in America in a way that it has neverbeen presented before. Our pust years of experiencehave taught us what questions arise in the mindsof seekers when the~' learn of the Amorc and asurvey of these questions has enabled us to antici­pate them in this new book. New application blanksand other pieces of literature are now being printedby a large printing plant in Tampa which has be­come the official printing shop of the Order.

And, a change is going to be made in regard toour cOTTespondence memberships. Those who I1retaking up the study of our work by correspondencehave increased in number to that !loint where thiswork is u very large and serious problem.

We find that these members, unllJlsociated withan~' Lodge and depenuing solely upon correspond­ence for their instruction, advice, help, and guid­ance, require an enormous amount of personal ser­vice and individuill eorrespondence. .fo'or this reason,we will change the membership fees for those who

The book and ritual for Initiation arc sentwith the first instructions. Initiation Fee for thisform of membership is Five Dollars, payable withthe application, and dues of two dollars per month.

LoDG~; MEMIlERSIIII'. For those who live whereregular Lodges are located. They will receh'e inthe Temples the same lectures, but hnve the addi­tional benefits of discussions, social intercourse andritual work. The Initiation Fees for such membersvury uccording to the operating expenses of the in­dividual Lodges, and the monthl~' dues vary for thesame reason, (Inquiry in this regard should al­ways be made to the Secretary of the Lodge.)

Therefore our members will please note thechanges in membership and dues us stated aboveIlnd will state these corrected fees when speakingto possible candidates. Members of the NationalLodge nnd those in the Postulants Grade who nrepU>'ing one dollar per month dues at the presenttime will not be asked to increase their dues.

New Application Blanks covering these changeswill be rendy when the new book is ready, aboutOctober 1st, or perhaps September 15th.

INCREASING INTEREST EVERYWHEREWe hope that all our members share with us the

joy that comes with the realization that Amorc isgrowing so rnpidl~' and so Inrge that it has at­tracted deep interest ever)"\vhere. Hardly n daypasses at Headquarters without its several lettersfrom prominent persons who write that their at­tention has been called to the Amorc b~' some de­monstrntion or manifestation of its laws and pow­ers, and offering to assist in the great work. Suchletters have come from newspaper editors who haveheretofore looked with a watchful attitude on thedevelopment of Amorc. Other letters come from at­torneys, officials, and well known business men.

Many new applications are received weekh'through the rl.'commendation of members or throughthe little thoughts dropped b~' our members when inthe presence of others.

It is all so joyous, this bt.'ing connected with anda part of a growing, successful organization. Doyou sense it as you should? Some of our officershave sturted a nation-wide slogan of "One MillionAmerican Members by 1930," We do not believe in(lrilles or artificiall~' stimulated campaigns; but the

DISCOVER YOURSELF

It is all very well for each of us to be greatlyconcerned about the development of any latentfaculties we may possess, but before this step istaken, we should strive to discover ourselves.

There is no question but what each of us has anumber of latent abilities. Some may be morepotential than others; and the least developed ofthem may be the most important. To simply lear~

what faculties or abilities are weak in our characterand develop all of these a little more or to greaterstrength, does not constitute the first essential forsuccess in life.

There are certain, definite lines of work to bedone. These change from time to time as civiliz~­

tion advances, as science makes obsolete some ac­tivities and introduces others. The world is a bee­hive of activity and the drones cannot be successfulin any sense.

He is happiest and most successful who is dailyand hourly employed in advancing civilization orassisting in meeting the demands of humanity.Workers, not parasites, are the real successes in theworld regardless of personal wealth or material pos­·sessions.. If we can do that work which is most befitting ournatural inclinations and most agreeable with ourabilities and fortitude, then we shall be most suc­cessful in accomplishment and contribution to thegeneral lot.

It behooves us, therefore, to discover, not what isweakest in our makeup, so much as what is essen­tially strongest in our latent abilities and naturalfunctions. In other words, we must discover ourSELVES,-discover in each of us the SELF thatis the real self. '

That all may recognize and know them, threesouls were given names in a beautiful and symboliechristening ceremony on August 15th at the conclu.sion of the Rosaecrucian Wedding. Recognizing tbatthe soul must manifest in an objective body and in­dividuality, Rosaecrucians name these that their ac­complishments and characteristics may be knownnot only for the present incarnation of the soul butfor all time. And so it was that a son and twodaughters of three couples, members of the SupremeGrand Lodge, received olficially the names by whichthey are to be known in this life. The backgroundfor this ceremony was indentical with that used forthe wedding which preceded it, with the same Olfi­cers taking part. In lieu of the customary waterused at a christening, the leaves of roses, red roses,were scattered over each child in the appropriateplace. Once more did soft music add to the sacred­ness and sweetness of the occasion.

who is at the head of a ver~' large husiness, wnsspeaking of the failure of those lirmlS which havegone fnto business through the desire or intentionof injuring others. The two,personaUtyand individuality, or the psychic andmundane, the immaterial and material, workingin unison reveal an entity recognized boththrough its individuality and personality as itexpresses itself in daily life. PINEAL and PITUITARY glands in their physio­logical purpose have to do with the regulatingof various functions of the body like the circula­tion of the blood, the growth of the bones andtissues, the development of the sex and emotion­al functions. They act in this sense as governorsessentially. In the psychic sense, they are trans­formers, stepping down for objective sensingthllse exceedingly rapid vibrations which comefrom the spiritual or psychic planes or steppingup the slower vibrations of a material nature thatthey may be sensed on the immaterial plane. Bya series of exercises these glands may be broughtup to that standard of functioning decreed bythe Creator and which has not been generallyin evidence for many aires. It is one phase ofthe work of mysticism to altord the sincere, earn­est seeker after Light, Knowledge and Powerthe privilege and means of bringing up to nor­mal these most essentially important glands inthe human body. Such an one will have amongother faculties the powers of seer and prophet.Any standard work on physiology or anatomywill give the descriptions of these glands to­gether with their functions and place in thephysiolo~ical economy. This may be found underthe heading of ENDOCRINE Glands. But thedescription of these same glands, together withtheir place and function in the psychic economyof man is NOT to be found in any book nor isthe knowledge .I1:iven to the idle seeker for themere asking. These glands have to do so great­ly with the spiritual side of life that they mustbe developed slowly that their pristine normalcybe regained.

PLASTIC refers to that which is endowed with allmanner of possibilities but which lacks form ordefinite and characteristic expression. That isplastic which allows of being moulded or shapedaccording to the ideas of the molder.

POLARITY is the predominance of one or the otherphases of electrical or magnetic force possessedby any manifestation of creation, and whichgives it its distinguishing character of positiveor nei1:ative. This is contrary to commonly ac­cepted understanding of the term polarity whichis defined as that which has two poles. In ac­tuality it is more than the quality of havinlr twopoles. It is the quality of having in additionmore of one phase or the other of that which isfound at the poles. This applies to all forms andkinds of creation for each has its individual andcharacteristic polarity by which it is distin­guished from among other manifestations of itsown class and of other classes. Here may befound a key to the explanation of personality,its power of attraction and repulsion whenthinking of polarity as applying to mankind.

POTENTIAL refers to that state or condition ofanything which is not in an active state. It is astatic condition and not a kinetic one. It isdormant awaitin.l1: that touch which will changeit from its inactive condition to an active ordynamic one. Anv potential condition haa crys­tlllized within itself all the qualities and essen­tials needed in the kinetic or active state. of

manifestation. The potential state lacks noth­ing which it would not have in the active state.Its inactivity is all that characterizes this con­dition. This is in contradistinction to that con­dition which lacks that which is essential to itsactive state.

PRAYER-a petition, a supplication or entreatyaddressed usually to the Creator of the grant­ing of some special request. In many eases, theDivine Laws and Principles involved in thegranting of prayer are completely ignored oroverlooked by the petitioner. Yet neither neg­ligence, nor ignorance, nor wilfulness will abro­gate them nor diminish by an iota their efficacyor reduce their operation. God in His Wisdom,decreed and established certain laws of universaloperation in order that there might be systemand order in the world. Such laws are applicableto all and infrangible-therefore any prayerwhich does not meet the requirements of suchlaws will not be answered, for, could or wouldGod answer all prayer irrespective of their mo­tive and purpose. chaos would result.

The mystic well knows that should he petitionfor any purpose, he must base his prayer on thatwhich concords with Divine Ideals. Thereforehe asks first not that his prayer be granted, thathis plea, out of a world full of pleas. be singledfor fulfillment, but that he be given Light andunderstanding of the Laws involved in thegranting of the prayer and of the consequencesto accrue from its fulfillment. Next, the mysticassures himself that' his prayer is altruistic. Itis not necessary that it be wholly altruistic butit must be over fifty per cent so, as in the caseof asking benefits and blessings for ourselves. Itis right to ask for these when we desire these inorder that we become be·ter fitted to serveothers.

Having asked for understanding of Divine De­crees and Laws, having asked that it be shownus if it is right that our petition should be ex­pressed, havinv assured ourselves that ourprayer is in the final analysis altruistic in natureand purpose, we proceed to give expression to theprayer with a feeling of confidence. This feelingof confidence is not an impossible one, for ourprayer heinG' formed in harmony with the DivineScheme, meeting the requirements of the Laws,based on altruism, we find that there is nothin"to prevent us from having the feeling that wewill obtain the obiect of our petition since we aredoini1: all that is possible with us in fulfillin~ therequisites imposed. And so, having achieved ourfeeling of confidence and knowing that ourprayer will be fulfilled we express our thanks forthe fulfillment, for spiritually it IS ALREADYgranted under these circumstances.

One other wonder­ful feature to be noted as a result of basingprayer accordinlr to the demands of Divine Prin­ciples is that the manner, ways and means ofgulfilling the prayer are indicated to us and weoroceed to demonstate that God helps those whohelp themselves.
