SIPReflections

17

Wasn’t really working… • Prior to 2016‐2017 school year, Math was taught in both languages.  Due to insufficient teacher training and a lack of clear guideline for the Chinese and English time teachers, instruction was inconsistent.  As a result Math scores were low for our first cohort.

So we…• Last year we divided the core content areas so each teacher is responsible for teaching a content area (English‐Literacy, Science; Chinese‐Literacy, Social Studies, Math).

• This year we introduced the concept of “bridging” so that the main Math content is still taught by the Chinese time teacher but English time teachers are providing instructional time for math team work.

Now we’re seeing… • Overall higher STAR Math scores in subsequent cohorts.
