After my third install of skyrim, due to crashes when loading a saved game, I figured it was time to find a way to prevent this problem from recurring.

I assume that's why you're here, reading this now. You went to load a saved game, and your game crashed and sent you back to the desktop. And you were pulling your hair out trying to find why the game keeps crashing. You have spent countless hours in the game, and you have spent many hours downloading, installing, setting up, and tweaking your mods.

Well, my friend, you have come to the right man. JJ, the Ultimate Witch Doctor of Skyrim

If you want to keep your game running, you have to follow my instructions to the letter. Do not skip anything. Do not take shortcuts. Remember, you are taking time to do this now, to save yourself from losing ten times that amount of time trying to fix it later, or worse, trashing your entire game and starting over.

I hope you will click "LIKE" and share the link to this document.

I have spent countless hours trying to help you, so I ask that you at least take a minute to thank me.

What is happening when Skyrim is crashing? The best I have been able to determine so far is that the game has a system of scripts that dynamically altar the game, but it lacks sufficient controls to harness the scripts being used. Think of itas a network of streets, where some of the streets are missing traffic lights. It is only a matter of time until there is an accident at one of the intersections.

***note: agents of nexusmods will try to fool you stating that thisprocess will cause additional problems and corrupt saves. That is untrue. As long as your ISO has the same mods, asthe saves do,

this process works perfectly. I have tested it on five re-

installs, and have successfully made at least 650 saves.

Please follow these steps, one by one, and do it as you read it, and you will avoid having missed any part of it. These are (6) very easy steps. Just do them as you read it. You will only need to read it once, then you will always haveyour SKYRIM REPAIR FILE.

*** (note: these steps include a new installation of Skyrim,so you will need your disc and activation number.)

-------------------------- LET'S GET STARTED! ------------------------

---1---Obtain a screen capture program called Screen Hunter Pro. This

application will allow a scrolling capture. This means that when the window being captured is too, too big for the screen, it will scroll it toget the rest of the window. An alternative to this is to just take snapshots of the window in segments.

WHAT WINDOW AM I TALKINGABOUT? You ask me. I am talking

about the Nexus Mod ManagerWindow.

Take a picture of the Nexus Mod Manager window, as shownbelow, AFTER you click the tab that says “INSTALL DATE”. This will sortthe mods by day. Make all the green check marks come to the top,JUST LIKE IN MY PICTURE.

Page 4: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

This is SCREEN HUNTER

Page 5: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

Easy instructions for screen hunter:

• click “FROM” (tab) • click “SCROLLING WINDOW” (the small dot option) • click “TO” and change the option on right side to “JPG” • open your Nexus mod manager, and sort by date as I told you

above, and Press F6. You will see a red box appear when you hover your mouse over the window. Click the scroll bar on the Nexus Mod Manager, and wait for the snapshot to appear.

• A message box will appear, close it, then click “FILE”---->”SAVE AS”and save your pic.

Now you have a record of you MODS in the ORDER YOU INSTALLED THEM. Why? Because we are going to reinstall all of your mods.

*** side note: when playing skyrim, disconnect from internet first, just to be safe. I myself suspect Steam makes changes to the game, possibly resulting in crashes.

---2---Now we must reset your Nexus Mod Manage, so that it will not

assume you have already installed your mods. So to do this, we must either delete the Install Info, or move it. Save it if you have sentimental value in junk (like me). Otherwise delete the Install Info:

* C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrim\Installs Info

(WARNING: DO NOT PLAY SKYRIM UNTIL INSTRUCTED.)

Re-install your Skyrim

Make a clean, virgin installation. I don't recommend you try to re-use any of your previous game folders, except your old saved games. This is because we want this Skrim repair file to be as pure and clean aspossible.

As I said, You may still re-use your existing saved games, so be sure to get your saved games folder and move it to your desktop. Your saves folder is located here:

C:\Users\yourPC\Documents\My Games\Skyrim To delete your skyrim, you can do it manually, if you know where all the Skyrim folders are, or you can open “Steam” and in the left handpanel, select “DELETE ALL LOCAL CONTENT”. Make sure the MY GAMES\SKYRIM folder has been deleted, and that the Skyrim main folder has been deleted from your “Programs Files” folder.

Next, You will need your activation key. One important tip: steam will assume you want to download the entire game from the net. So, you “might” have to stop the download and force it to use your CD for the install. Click to stop the download----> click your CD and click “Install Skyrim”, when the window asks.

After the disk install, it will need to DOWNLOAD UPDATES from steam, so let it spend an hour or so doing that DOWNLOAD. Obviously this download would be best when it is time so nap or sleep.

---4---Install absolutely everything you will need. This is the most

critical part to this process. You must install your FNIS, Static Mesh, and ENB early (and dual sheath redux if you use it, though I advise you don't). Then you must install and tweak all of your mods next.

THIS IS WHERE YOU USE YOUR MOD PIC, the one you made as show when we started (above).

VERY IMPORTANT: look over your MODs Pic carefully. And

Page 7: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

thoughtfully consider TWO THINGS:• what order should these be installed? • do I need all of these?

DO NOT INSTALL WHAT MAY BE CAUSING TROUBLE. DO NOT INSTALL WHAT MAY BE CAUSING LAG. DO NOT INSTALL WHAT DOESN'T ADD ENOUGH IMPROVEMENT TO YOUR GAME. By considering these things, you will improve the speed and appearance of your game. And, finally, never install any mod without reading the instructions or description. If you can't read well, then ask someone to help you. Some guys on craigslist will even come to your house and do it for you for $25. Just do it safely, since craigslist canbe hazardous to your health.

You will now notice that all your Mods have red “X's” nextto them in nexus mod manager. This makes it easy to see what mods have been installed.-----If it says that a similar mod has been installed, do you want to replace it, SELECT “NO”.-----But if it asks you if you want to overwrite files, then select “YES”.

---5---If you have sharpshooters ENB (I recommend you do), download and

extract my ENB Boost Pack INTO YOUR SKYRIM MAIN FOLDER:

---6---Once all mods are installed, the you are ready for the

“preservation stage”. You will save Skyrim in a file called an ISO, to protect it from infection, and to use to repair your Skyrim whenever it has a problem. This file will be your permanent Skyrim repair file.

You will make a second ISO file of your MY GAMES\SKYRIMfolder

Whenever you have a save that will not work, you WILL use this file to repair your game. You will need to:

(1) Obtain an ISO program. I recommend “Magic ISO”. Then make the FOLLOWING TWO ISO FILES:

• Drag and Drop skyrim main folder into Magic ISO, click the SAVEIcon, and save is as an ISO. Remember where you put it. Namethis file Skyrim-Main-folder.ISO

• Next, create an ISO file of your My Games\Skyrim folder. Dragand drop this Skyrim folder into Magic ISO:

C:\Users\yourPC\Documents\My Games\SkyrimName this ISO file Games—Skyrim.ISO

Page 9: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

(2) fixing your game: When your game won't load a save, or keeps crashing for whatever reason, open your Skyrim main folder, go up one level, to the folder Named “COMMON”, or just save an explorer link to this folder:

Page 10: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

*** C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\

AND move or, better yet, delete the whole skyrim folder. ANY MODSYOU INSTALLED AFTER TODAY will be deleted too.

(3) Next, simply EXTRACT THE SKYRIM ISO into your COMMON folder. In simple terms, you are gonna put this ISO skyrim in the place of the bad one, after you delete the bad one.

If you want to install more mods after this point today, Irecommend you test them for a few days, then start this process FROMTHE BEGINNING WITH A “NEW” GAME. Always save your ISO from aNEW game, because once you start playing Skyrim, it will make changesto the game, and we don't want to save those kind of changes in ourISO.

Make sure your Skyrim is “STABLE”, then and only then, MAKEA NEW ISO file and save your Skyrim folder again. Otherwise you maybe sorry.

(4) THE MOMENT OF TRUTH: “Testing the game”. Run skyrim. If it does a soft crash, try starting Skyrim at least 3 more times. A “softcrash” is when Skrim loads, but crashes AFTER you click on a saved game. If you keep having soft crashes, you need to go to STEP (5).

(5) Stopping the crashes by deleting all the bad files in your “MY GAMES” folder, by following these steps:

(a) go to the Skyrim folder in MY GAMES: …C:\Users\yourPC\Documents\My Games\Skyrim

(b) Move the SAVES folder to your desktop, so it will NOT be deleted.

(c) go back to My Games\Skyrim and delete the Skyrim folder that is in there.

(d) Then open your My Games—Skyrim.ISO file you created earlier, and drag and drop your skyrim folder from the ISO intothe My Games folder. Make sure it is coming from the My Games—Skyrim.ISO file.

Page 11: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

(e) Then, when it is done extracting Skyrim into the My Games folder, you can MOVE YOUR SAVES FOLDER back into the My Games\Skyrim. (see step (b) above).

That is all there is to that. That should repair any other problems you are having with game. Unless you are having “Hard Crashes”.

A hard crash is when the game crashes just as it is starting, before you can click on a saved game. If you experience a hard crash, then you either did not extract either ISO file properly, or you saved a bad ISO to begin with. So, try to start Skyrim again, and if you determine it is a Hard Crash, then start a New Skyrim Installation process, and be sure to install the game carefully, and verify it afterwards. Avoid installing many mods.

And then you can save your ISO Skyrim Repair files, as instructed above.

Page 12: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1
Page 13: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

This process is fool proof, if you follow these steps. The key to making this work for you is to VERIFY then save. If you do not verify that your Skyrim is STABLE, and you save an UNSTABLE Skyrim ISO, when you exrtact the ISO into your COMMON folder, it will be crashing again before you can say, “oh darnit!!!”.

VERIFY, THEN SAVE. And then, be safe – be happy.

---6---DID IT WORK???

*** Why is my game still crashing? I installed both ISO files as instructed, but it is still crashing.

This is a very important question at this point. Why? Because it will reveal if you have permanently damaged your saved games, or created a bad ISO file, or have installed a bad mod. This is how to know if it is a Bad Mod or Bad ISO or Bad Saved Game:

• Try playing an earlier saved game, like save #10 or save #25. If you can play Skyrim with earlier saves, then your save is bad. Have you aready tries using the My Games—Skyrim.ISO, as instructed above? If so, then it is a Bad Save, and you will have to delete it and use earlier saves.

• If it is not a bad save, and the game is crashing on all saves, then uncheck all plugins except for the ones required to runskyrim. Then see if you can play any saved game.

Page 14: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

• If the game stops crashing after unchecking the plugins, activate them “THREE AT A TIME” and run Skyrim each time, UNTIL THEPROBLEM COMES BACK. When it returns, you will know it was one of those three plugins. You can then find out which one, or uninstall all three mods.

This may be hard, but you will at least know what mod shouldnever be installed again.

• If the game still doesn't stop crashing after you UNCHECK all

Page 15: JJ's Skyrim Repair Manual -- Revision 1

non-essential plugins, then you will have to start from the beginning and install a new game. I recommend at this point, do not install a lot of mods and install only mods you can be certain your computer can manage.

Final Notes:

1. sexlab users: do not install sexlab in the ISO. Install after each extraction. Sexlab requires a fresh installation each time. And always click GenerateFNISforUsers.exe after the install.

2. ENB users, for some reason, Skyrim graphics degrade aftera while. To fix this, and get graphics looking good again, extract the enbseries.ini file from the Skyrim-Main-Folder.iso to the skyrim main folder. Just drag and drop the file into the skyrim main folder. If you want to get a even more basic look, just openthe sharpshooters ENB file, and drag and drop his embseries.ini file into the Skyrim main folder.

HEY! Buddy, if it's any consolation, when you're done, your skyrim is going to be way faster and look way better andbe way more stable!

ENJOY!

PEACE!

JJ!
